Monday 21st nov. Us hopefully Vs USA 7pm Friday 25th Nov. Us hopefully Vs Iran 10am Tuesday 29th Nov. Us hopefully Vs England 7pm Last 16 if winners of group Sunday 4th Dec. 7pm If runners up Saturday 3rd Dec. 3pm Quarters if group winners and through last 16. Saturday 10th December. 7pm Quarters if runners up and through last 16. Friday 9th December. 7pm Semis if winner of group and through last 16 and quarters. Wednesday 14th December 7pm Semis if runners up and through last 16 and quarters. Tuesday 13th December 7pm. 3rd 4th place match. Saturday 17th December 3pm kick off Final. Sunday 18th December 3pm kick off. Thanks for that. Fantastic to have our potential 1st match v USA as a 10pm local time kick off. Same goes for the 3rd match. The Iran game at 1pm local time must favour them locals...
We need to win our first match and certainly aim from then to win the group.
I feel a semi coming on ;-))
NB - I see that the england game v Iran is also a hot 4pm local time ko. Reminds me a lot of 2016 and the english may well struggle in their first game. The USA have all 3 games at 10pm - which must give them an advantage - even if just a psychological one.
All of the stadiums have retractable roofs with huge A/C systems pumping cooled, purified air I believe which should level things up somewhat?

I’m looking into basing in Abu Dhabi and either hiring a car to drive to Doha and back in a day or hire a driver and car. Fuel, car rental and private drivers are cheap in AD I’ve been there a few times and there’s plenty to do, Warner Bros World, the F1 race track, Ferrari World and you can get a decent package deal to go there and make a holiday of it. AD is closer to Qatar than Dubai and is generally cheaper Only thing I haven’t looked into is how difficult it is entering and leaving Saudi to get into and out of Qatar I’m waiting on prices back from a few companies for private hire for a round trip so If anyone is thinking of doing this option let me know and I can look into hiring a people carrier or mini bus There's a few Dubai based Expats that will look at alternative transportation methods other than air travel which seems to be exorbitant. Border crossings at the UAE / Saudi border and Saudi / Qatar border are apparently, relatively easy to cross with permits although it can take a couple of hours sometimes according to a friend who has done the drive many times although there is some talk about a 'fast-track' system for the World Cup. Incidentally, the same friend got caught with alcohol in his car in Saudi on the way back from Bahrain and was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment. Luckily enough for him as an Egyptian Christian and not a Muslim, he escaped being whipped aswell....As there are many off-licences in Abu Dhabi, don't take the risk of having a few lagers on the journey as you would do in the UK! You don't want to be cheering the boys on from a 6ft x 6ft Saudi cell...! If we do get through, it would be an idea to set up a page for UAE to Qatar land travel. *EDIT* Bahrain may be a shout actually? Up and coming 'Dubai' apparently and only a mere 5 or so hours drive..! Something to take a closer look at when the time is right perhaps? (£400 for 10 nights, not bad!)

I'm concerned that for the third game England fans will be already trying to snap up all the tickets. Hopefully they hold some back for whoever might be playing. The relevant FA will get so many but the rest if 40k will be quickly snapped up by England fans Your concern is justified. I just went on Booking.com, which I use quite often, and it's the first time I have ever seen '0 properties are available in and around this destination'....

Just booked 11 days hotel accommodation in Abu Dhabi ( free cancellation). Prices have gone up since the draw was made. I'm not at all familiar with the region but s there any reason why yo would favour the UAE over Bahrain which if anything appears a little more liberal and a little cheaper ?

I’ve twice been to Abu Dhabi in the past plus several times to Dubai and visited Qatar once before. Never done Bahrain but on the small bit of research I’ve done there isn’t a huge difference in price really. Abu Dhabi ( in my opinion) in much more established as a tourist resort with more options regarding hotels/bars/restaurants etc. The travelling distance between the two is almost identical ( unless they restart the ferry which doesn’t seem likely). A decent 4 star hotel in both resorts was about £600 for 10 days and a decent 5 star hotel worked out about £1400 when I was comparing them both. These prices have began increasing since the draw was made. Day to day costs were pretty much the same but the western style bars in Abu Dhabi seemed to offer much more offers/deals/happy hours on food and drink. I managed to get a hotel that was offering an upgrade to “ club access” which meant free breakfast plus free drinks for 2 hours at lunchtime and free drinks 6-8 each night. That was the main reason I booked when I did.

It is crossing my mind to just book Qatar airways flights back and fore and treat as day returns. Downside is flight disruption meaning you miss games, but it is going to miserable staying around there. I suspect there will be charter flights operating too.

There is talk of allowing a fast track system just for the period of the World Cup.

Hi all, Think I better start posting as I live in Dubai. I am quietly excited that the Word Cup is coming to my doorstep, and I seriously hope we overcome the playoffs. A few questions that have been raised which I can address with a bit of information. Accommodation:Simply put, if you are thinking of coming out, get your accommodation booked in UAE, Bahrain or Oman ASAP. The UAE has already become a hotspot for holidaymakers due to the quick recovery from COVID and measures in place. The place has been super busy, even compared to pre-pandemic levels. The accommodation for Qatar is only available through FIFA portal, which is why there are 0 properties on Booking.com! The only way you can get a hotel in Qatar is through the portal and have to provide your ticket application number. No ticket, no accommodation. There is a mix of Cruiseships, Hotels, Villas and Apartments. I had thought about getting Villas or Apartments, and get some slabs of beer in, but the laws in Qatar are different to UAE. So if you are thinking of doing a big group villa and lying by a pool with some expensive Heineken think again. You can do this in the UAE however no problem :-) Flights:
The cost of Flights from the UAE to Qatar is extortionate, you are currently looking at 600 pounds return! In saying this, there are plans to put more flights on, but the most it's likely to drop to is 3-400 pounds (1500-2000 AED / QAR) return. I have been fortunate to get tickets in the ballot for Brazil v Cameroon on December 2nd (UAE National Day), which 4 of us are planning to attend. We planned to fly to Qatar (normal flight price circa 1000 AED/QAR) but we will have little option to take a 7hr drive at present. I did drive for Euro2016, including the Eurotunnel debacle, I'll do it again this time if I have to! Well, that's the plan, but the major drawback is the rental companies may not allow insurance for the car and they have trackers. I attempted a drive to Oman once and the Car cutout as I passed through the border (My fault, I did not tell the rental company my plan). Fortunately, I have a local car and can get GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council - countries in the Middle East) insurance. There is a good article that provides details on the drive from UAE to Qatar - current state. www.thenationalnews.com/uae/transport/2022/02/13/qatar-world-cup-how-easy-is-it-to-drive-from-uae-to-doha/Any questions let me know, and I'll try my best to answer them.

Its such an arsehole that the ferry between Bahrain and Qatar never got going. Would have sorted out the accommodation issues pretty much. Why there isn't corporation between neighbouring countries is an indictment of the region. Bloody hell a 200 seat tourist highspeed boat backwards and forwards across that narrow bit of sea at the top and an hour bus shuttle into Doha and sorted. Almost anywhere else in the world that would be happening. I read yesterday that they're arranging 400 flights in from the Iranian tourist island of Kish. Who'd go to a country happy to hold civilians as hostage ?

Cheers for the info. Hopefully it's helpful to some going. The more I read about it and the more I see posts like this (helpful as they are) it just makes me realise how little I'd actually wanna go if we got there. Go to most away games these days but the extortionate flight prices, the fact you can't sort your own accommodation without a ticket so we've got no choice but to either go to neighbouring countries or camp in the desert or something equally ridiculous and the various other issues of holding a football tournament in Qatar has just left an extremely sour taste. Thought about going out for one game if we got there but think I'll just watch it in Wrexham with my mates and pray for Germany 2024.

It really is one of the stupidest places on the planet to hold an international football tournament. Tiny country, not enough hotels to host all the travelling fans, weather makes the tournament unplayable in summer, being gay is illegal, women can't wear shorts or tank tops, the local men ogle women constantly, getting drunk could land you in jail a lot easier than it would in many other countries, slavery is rife, the number of people who have died building the stadiums is supposedly in the thousands, no legacy plan in place for the use of the stadiums once the tournament has finished, near enough all the stadiums have had to be built from scratch or completely revamped. Should I go on or?

Does coach travel / international coach travel exist ? I suppose it must given all the Saudi pilgrimages.

I did send an enquiry to a company early on in the year for Qatar, but it was a flat no at the time. That may change now though that the World cup is getting closer and the likelihood that majority of people attending will be based in the UAE.

I have been in contact with one of my suppliers and I can get a day trip charter flight from Cardiff to Doha for a little over £1,000 per person per match. No accommodation required, land the morning of each match, fly back home a few hours after the final whistle and use much less annual leave.
If you are interested in being on the 'potential' list, please send me an email with how many people are interested and I'll see if this is worth pursuing for us. Only space for 188 fellow supporters.

World Cup squad:
Hennessey Ward A Davies
Gunter Mepham Rodon Ampadu B Davies Roberts N Williams RND
Allen Ramsey Morrell Colwill Wilson J Williams Levitt
Bale Moore Johnson Brooks James
I still think we are missing a ‘Joe Ledley’ & we could do with the 2016 versions of Bale, Rambo & Allen, but I don’t think this is far off.
