Thanks for that. So we cant take in bottles of water? I'm sure they will have very expensive bottles for sale inside the stadium!

Thanks for that. So we cant take in bottles of water? Sadly not they say. Crazy, but they are obviously trying to extract every last penny from us. The only exception would be on medical grounds if there's something you need to take with you e.g. diabetic.

What are the chances of getting a big rainbow flag in? Need to respect their culture even if you don’t agree with it.

I'll never respect homophobia. The world is full of different views. It's not a different view, it's hate. Take it to the DMs if you wanna discuss it further, save taking this thread off course.

A friend tells me that whatsapp is 'banned' in Qatar and that I need a vpn, whatever that is. To save me googling this, is anyone aware of any alternatives to whatsapp that will likely work in Qatar?
Anyone looked into the world of insurance yet? I usually just buy the cheapest without reading the t and c's so as this is my most expensive holiday so far and contains a fair amount of risk, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has looked into this.

I wouldn’t advise using VPNs if WhatsApp is banned there.

I took out insurance a little while ago just to be safe. Took some time to take out a more comprehensive policy with a reputable company for this trip due to cost and risk etc. Went with AXA and cost around ÂŁ40 for 11 days of cover. For context I'm 31 with no health issues.

You should be more worried that FIFA has conned you all into going to a backwards shit country more than what bloody flags you can hang, but of course none of you care about that.

I think from memory what’s app messages work, but calls don’t. You need to get Botim which is like what’sapp but not banned. VPN won’t get around the WhatsApp ban I don’t think. But generally VPN works ok. No need to be afraid of using it for pron etc EDIT in UAE at the moment and VPN does let you do what’s app calls. (Not arrested yet either)

Seems strange to me that they bring in the strict testing requirements but at the same time make it easier for people to come to the country who otherwise wouldn't have been. If covid infections are the main concern then why invite more people to come over.

What are the chances of getting a big rainbow flag in? Pretty sure that there's a FIFA rule that only national flags are allowed. I went with my sisters to a Women's World Cup match once and there were taking all types of flags from people at the gates.

Some SIM card news
"The CEO of Ooredoo (biggest telecom company in Qatar) just held a press conference in Doha. He announced that every fan with a Hayya Card will receive a free Ooredoo SIM card with 2022 MB free data, 2022 free phone calls and 2022 free SMS."
"1- The services (data, minutes, sms) are only for 3 days. 2- After the 3 days, you can top up the sim card they will be providing you with the usual data/promotions depending on your preferences. 3- The free minutes and SMS provided are local. 4- The service is available on Physical SIM cards or E-Sim cards. 5- Sim cards can be collected at Oreedoo store at the airport or other sales points."

I guess that's something. But I assume all visitors will need to be able to be online as soon as they get off the plane and going through immigration to show the track and trace app to the immigration officer? Clarity on this has been a bit vague so far. I bought one of the Qatar sim cards from simcorner recently. Hopefully it works.

We're looking to do some 'dune bashing' on one of our days off.
Normally this is priced around ÂŁ70pp but during the World Cup the prices are around ÂŁ350+pp
Anyone had any luck finding / booking some good activities at reasonable prices?
