Just on the subject of these battery/power packs, I was watching a video on YouTube earlier showing to how use the app at the stadium etc. and it said your battery needs to be at 100%. They said the same thing for the Euros last year IIRC. For those who went, was that actually the case? Quite why the battery needs to be full beats me. This was interesting regarding activation of tickets on match day. Notes: Match tickets are activated via Bluetooth, make sure to open the FIFA World Cup 2022™ Tickets app with Bluetooth turned on. No internet connection is required. For Android users, enable "Location Services" in "Privacy settings" and activate your app notifications. www.iloveqatar.net/qatar2022/guide/fifa-world-cup-tickets-mobile-app-application?fbclid=IwAR0_dcXBFYdld6af9kDSoLOmXsgdCHP80g58ObAtEscELbEQIDq79J6kgBk

You tkts aren’t activated until you are within range of the Bluetooth signal. Literally within yards of the turnstiles.

What's the latest on the mobile phone situation? Remember reading earlier in the thread that some phones may not be compatible - has anyone found out more about that? Or is it fine for all smart phones as long as you use the Qatari sim card?
The roaming charges for those of us staying in Dubai look pretty shocking! With EE, you can buy a Travel Data pass for around £7 but it only covers 500MB - i suspect i will be using more than that every day considering the need to find my way around the place. It's £2 per minute to make a call, or £7 daily for unlimited minutes, but that deal only works within the UAE as far as I can see.

I see the transport on the day of the Iran game doesn't start until 9 am with a 1 pm kick off. Will be packed on those metros I think.

There is sure to be a local sim card that allows roaming in all GCC countries. I found a Vodafone deal in Muscat that gives you 28 days of roaming (including 300 free minutes to the UK) and 15gb data for £20...

Does anyone know of an OFFLINE Voice Translator? The usual suspects Google / Microsoft / Triplingo only do the voice translation online ...

Officially £ 16.50 a pint then. Was hoping for a good bit less than that to be honest. Claims that it was going to be a fiver seem to have been well misguided. I think Doha is going to be ripping us off at every opportunity.

Definitely looks that way - I've been looking at the excursions out to the Desert or up North. Some of them have tripled in price - some of them have gone up ten fold.(One trip was £85 in October, it's up over £800 now!)
Terrible. Robbing fuckers!

Where have you read £ 16.50 a pint? The article claims $11 for a 330ml bottle which is just under £10 these days. Scale up to 568ml for a British pint and voila.

But the article linked to was quoting another article from 2021, which gives the price of a bottle of Bud then in Qatar, which would be the price being charged in the bars and restaurants of the hotels that are licensed.
There's no doubt a pint in the various fan areas is going to be pricey, but I suspect they'll set it at lower than you'd pay in one of those hotels at regular times. It will probably be closer to their happy hour prices, which many are pulling for the duration of the tournament I've been told.

I think Doha is going to be ripping us off at every opportunity. Looks that way doesn't it - seems a real shame but they probably know most people will never come back again so aren't worried about ripping them off. I've seen a few posts for drinks at bars etc and places charging £40 just for entry! Insane. If people do come across any reasonable places to eat and drink share them here please! I'm a big fan of middle eastern cuisine so if you find any good places doing kebabs, rice dishes etc share the info!

Is alcho in fans zones?

In the main fan park at Al Bidda and in the area around the stadiums before each match. Not sure if the other fan zones they have set up will sell alcohol - suspect not.

And only after 6.30pm in the main fan park.
I have tickets for at least one game every day I'm out there so think that around the grounds is where I will be doing most of my drinking. They are serving 3 hours before and one hour after each game apparently.

That's my concern at the moment, outside of fan zones the only place to get a drink, atmosphere etc will be in the big hotels...and looks like they are putting in place packages for food and beverages..basically a minimum spend. I dont drink at all but getting a bit concerned that just to get in and be part of the atmosphere will be costly and wont be value for money for just a few waters or soft drinks. As lot riding on the fan zones I feel. I think only one is charging £75 a day entrance (?), their glasto experience, I can imagine that being empty. Not long to find out I suppose!

Atmosphere 😏
Talking to someone who worked all over Middle East and the most advice he said is behaviour and swearing ffs
So not sure how the f*ck the union jack etc songs will go down lol Never mind the sheep shagging bastards 😁
Waiting on the approval of flag as its slightly oversize , had issues in Rome not just with size but they thought it was not appropriate with welsh rams on it 😉 was only the intervention of welsh police there that explained what it meant

The Red Lion in Doha looks like a great option for drinking & watching games.
They're running happy hour all day, and its 175 QAR for 6 drink tokens, which works out at 7.30 pounds a pint roughly

Just seen the Red Lion stuff pop up and sounds like great deals , bar is about 30 mins walk from our apartment . Not sure how good public transport is to get there but taxi could be an option I guess. Our closest bars are inside the Radisson Blue which we are going to try for our 1st night on Sunday, about 15 min walk there.
