I spoke to a guy I know, yesterday. Him and 3 others are going to Split with no tickets. I guess there will be loads over there looking for tickets. I can’t see how they would get in. We need ID checks as the tickets will have our names on, which will apply in the home end I would think too. That was the case in Osijek. Something to do with Croatian security regulations and they certainy took their time to check every single ticket against the passport name - even when it was a scortching 32c heat

Something to do with Croatian security regulations and they certainy took their time to check every single ticket against the passport name - even when it was a scortching 32c heat And then 5 minutes before ko, they folded and let everyone in with ticket who hadn'thad theirs confiscated, no name checks. You could also get in with a ticket and a photocopy of the named ticket holder's passport. Not saying it will happen this time of course.

So a month out from the game what are people’s plans?
We’re flying out on the Friday from Stansted to Zagreb at about 1pm, night out and fan bus next day from Zagreb to Split then return after the game before a 4pm-ish flight back to Zagreb the next day

Out on the Friday. Stansted, Frankfurt, Zagreb and landing in Split about 3.30. Back on sunday Zadar, Mermingham and back into Stansted about 7pm. Bit of an arse ache but was there in August and its a fantastic city for a relaxed a couple of days drinking in great pavement bars. Should well and truly get Doha out of the system - as much as enjoyed that.

Just a heads-up for the more traditional travellers out there. My wonderful nephew has just introduced me to the Artificial Intelligence online website called CHAT GPT. Just register and log in and then ask away! "what can i do in 48 hours in Split" ; "plan a 4 day trip from Dubrovnik to Split, including interesting places to stop-over" etc.
A reply to the question: "What are the chances of Wales beating Croatia in football", it replied: "Statistically, Croatia may have a slight advantage over Wales, but anything can happen in football, and the match could go either way. It's always exciting to watch a good football match, regardless of the outcome!"

Also, for those flying into Split late evening from Zagreb, you may wish to locate yourselves in Trogir for that first night. The Trogir old town is supposed to be stunning. It is only FOUR Km from Split airport (as opposed to Split old town being 25km away). There are many very frequent €2 local buses (run up until midnight!) from the airport to both Split and Trogir. Take approx 60 minutes into Split and under 10 minutes into Trogir. A taxi from the airport to Trogir should be under €10.

Trip Advisor seems to suggest bringing euro cash with you, as a big majority of Croatian ATM machines charge a flat rate of €4-€5 per cash withdrawal.
As most of us are stopping over in Spain / Germany / Holland - you may wish to withdraw €50-€100 before arriving to Croatia on a non-commission debit card (Starling / Monzo / Metro bank debit etc)

It's what I normally use to get cash out abroad. Your right about Split, cashpoints everywhere but some have really extortionate charges. Had a meal at one of the restaurants on the front last August and they wouldn.t even take card payments. Had to go off to the hole in the wall which conveniently was the wall of the restaurant !! Fantastic city though.

Fantastic city though. I also use Hligax Clarity credit card for purchases. On the internet when buying non £ stuff and abroad. When you use the Clarity abroad for CASH withdrawel, you don't pay an actual useage fee, BUT you do pay something like 20% interest on the money that you withdraw on the cash-point. If - on average - you take 25 days until you pay your credit card bill - then, you are effectively paying a little under 2% "commission" on the amount that you withdrew.
Because all the other cards are in fact DEBIT cards, there is no such interest (as well as no fee)...

Best to take Euros with you as people have said above. It’s about 5% charges out there, even paying by card. Beer is up from 2 euros a pint to nearer 3.

I notice that there are mumblings on Twatter that quite a few tickets for the Croatia game have been returned. Apparently the FAW announced that every person had to collect their tickets and would have their booking history wiped if they didn't collect their tickets. Not sure if the returned tickets to go back on sale?

One can still get into ZAGREB on the Friday evening for £100 FROM BRISTOL and then take the overnight train down! Fri 24/03/23 13:50 Bristol BRS to COLOGNE with Ryan Air with a two hour stop-over then use EuroWings Arrive 19:55 Zagreb ZAG
FLYING BACK TO STANSTED WITH RYAN AIR FROM PULA ON SUNDAY IS ... €13
FLYING BACK TO GATWICK WITH EASYJET FROM DUBROVNIK ON SUNDAY IS ... €25...
Even the much more comfortable EasyJet on the Sunday evening to Gatwick FROM SPLIT is still only €65

Is there a good taxi app in Split? I find taxi etiquette varies from place to place…
