Backs against the wall, hoof it up to Moore and Bradshaw!!! Would love a back to the wall performance that actually gets us points - Ukraine was the last time we did that and it feels like a lnog time ago now

On the Gunter thing. I would have a major issue if he joined the likes of Bale and Ash as the coaching staff, but I think it is a great move, purely BECAUSE of the profile of the other coaches. Lots of people talk about how different club and international management is, so therefore the same would be true of coaching. It's great to have someone coming from Gunts point of view to counteract the others.

Changing the narrative, and back to the game itself on Saturday night, I'm going for a wholly unexpected and utterly unforeseen 1-0 win for us! I dreamt last night of Nanning. Not even thought of it in years. I took it as an omen that we are thumping them 0-6. You read it here first. What are the odds for us scoring 5 or more?

Would love a back to the wall performance that actually gets us points - Ukraine was the last time we did that and it feels like a lnog time ago now The Austria and Ukraine games seem like the last ones when we played to the strengths that we had and did all the things that made us a hard team to play against. We fought hard all game, closed down, we dug in, made our own luck, we basically did a lot of the things that were missing from the World Cup games against Iran and England and the first half of the USA game. I honestly believe that the habit of losing, although I can totally understand why it occured, during the Nations League games in the build up and with no friendlies before the World Cup to try things, hence the Nations League scores, led to us slackening somewhat. Now that's behind us I hope we go back to being dogged fighters that work for every ball and every inch, it's time for us to be horrible to play against again.

Just like night and day. Hopefully, 2 or 3 new faces in the camp will ignite that fire back in the bellies. The rest of the team has it - they just need a reminder of where the ignition spark is!

When are the squad flying out?

Looks like no Brennan tomorrow.
I find it really disappointing, but until there's a pattern of behaviour I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I would probably just bring Dan James in as a direct replacement. Far from ideal with his lack of minutes and form, but he's probably the ideal type of player to have for this game given his strengths in counterattacking and pressing. He also has a very good understanding with Moore. So I would probably go for:
Ward Mepham Rodon Lockyer Roberts Ampadu Neco Rambo Morrell Moore James
A two-goal loss and 20% possession is probably the most likely outcome, but I think this gives us a better chance than any other lineup.

Oh. That changes things! I need to revise my previous crushing victory, as I can't see our Harry scoring that hattrick, that Brennan wud av... It's going to be a cheeky 0-1 with our Connor getting a thumping header!

Being realistic against one of the genuinely best teams in Europe it's more about our performance, if we're competitive for 90 minutes, no injuries or yellows I'd take that right now.

This is what I’d go for
Ward
CRobs Mepham Rodon Neco
Ampadu Morrell
Sorba Rambo DJ
Moore
Sorba ahead of Wilson for me. Retain a set-piece threat but Sorba has more pace to break on the counter. Sorba also has more minutes in his legs than Wilson, which may be key considering Moore and DJ are constantly on the bench for their clubs (if Dan’s lucky).
11 right footers though….
Subs- Wilson to provide the technical ability if Rambo’s flagging, with Burns able to provide pace if needed.

Has no one new been called up to replace Brennan? Surely, Collins?

I’d go with this:
Ward
Roberts Mepham Lockyer Rodon Neco
Ampadu Morrell Ramsey
Cooper
Moore
Cooper ahead of wilson and James based on minutes on the pitch this season. He can also help out midfield when we haven’t got the ball but can also win us free kicks to give us rest bite. We are then looking for neco to provide us with an attacking threat and Moore to keeping them guessing when the ball goes long with copper and Ramsey looking to feed off him. Unlikely that Moore will last 90 mins so Bradshaw replaces him with around 30 to go.

Has no one new been called up to replace Brennan? Surely, Collins? No, Harris and Cullen have already been called up - which was a sign that Brennan wasn't fit.

At least Cullen has had a few minutes of playing time recently - I wouldn't mind seeing him come on after 75' if we are still chasing a goal.

Bradshaw has to start. No fannying around with Dan James playing up top with Kieffer if we do go with two up top.

Modric - you just can't not like him can you? Clearly an intelligent guy too
Their version of Joe Allen but with 10x the quality and longevity.
Its simply incredible how effective and even dominant he is at his age. Why can't we have an elite player with such endurance!

A lot of our players could learn from Modric' passion and commitment to Croatia.

Being realistic against one of the genuinely best teams in Europe it's more about our performance, if we're competitive for 90 minutes, no injuries or yellows I'd take that right now. I'd agree with this. It's a bad time to play Croatia both with us having injuries, starting next phase of transition and them currently having one of the best midfield trios in the world whereas it's been an area of weakness for us recently. My fear is that we start slowly in this group - not impossible given where we are currently - and people lose their heads despite the fact that things look like they get slightly easier as we go along. The reverse of that 2016 qualification process where first two results gave us so much of a buzz and it kept building despite the games getting harder.

I don’t want to be a Debbie downer because I still think we can get positive results in the next 2 games BUT there is no progression or inspiration in that line up. Just smacks of the World Cup again. I would love to have egg on my face.

To be fair to Page - I can't see anyone on the bench screaming to be playing.

This message board is getting a little depressing these days. The team he has picked are the players who are playing at the highest level - players whom have never let the country down and recently got us to a world cup.

Strongest XI. Don't see an issue with the team on paper.

To be fair to Page - I can't see anyone on the bench screaming to be playing. Pick in form club players! Take a risk! This is completely bollockless team picking. Page said he’d learnt his lesson in that players need to be fit and in form, yet picks James, Moore and Wilson who barely kick a ball!
