If you don't mind a 4-bed dormitory ... both these are very central and about 2km walk from stadium. The official DJH youth hostel still has beds for €90. Their doubles are €250 - free cancellation and no pre-payment. The A&O Hostel Dortmund Hbf had a few 4-bed dorms for €55 but now only has singles for €150 - keep checking, as plenty of people have booked this pre-draw and are now cancelling ... Note that the a&o site allows you to set an email alert for when it does become available!
Remember that the ko is 6pm - so you can certainly stay further afield. There are a few proper hotels in Unna and Bochum for €80-€100 and that is under an hour's ride away.
I did try the DJH hostel, but when selecting the duration, it just won't let me select a start and end date, and even selecting the duration at the top then start wouldn't work. Think I may look further afield, cheers 👍🏼 The Dortmund DJH has a minimum 2-night stay. You must first choose "WHO" - 1/2/3 person etc AND ALSO "Travel Solo or with Friends" under17 / 18-26 / over 27 and then click on "APPLY" ... I've done it on ten different hostels now ... its almost automatic ... Singles / doubles and 4-bed dorms still available from 24-26 June...

Thank you for this, I thought I'd done those steps, but maybe I didn't press apply. Looking at the prices, I think I'm going to leave it at the moment, or look at train times to stay outside of Dortmund and travel in 👍🏼

This is absolutely baffling. Not wanting to qualify because the teams there are too good! Why bother playing competitively at all then? Great group I think. Consistent qualification is our aim/target - the tournament itself itself is a bonus really, and a free shot at a fairytale. Some of us have got short memories. Most people on here have been complaining about how crap we've been playing against the likes of Armenia/Latvia/Turkey etc and how they want Page sacked, yet now they're licking their lips at the daunting prospect of facing the likes of France and Holland (who we never do well against) at a major tournament. What's all this sudden positivity based on? Of course I want us to get there but if we're the laughing stock of the tournament again your summer's going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons. Did you enjoy the World Cup? Yeah...cos when anyone thinks of the Qatar World Cup all they can think about is how funny it was that Wales put in some average-to-bad performances. Nothing else memorable enough happened at that tournament to make anyone think anything else. I can't even go abroad without people laughing at me for how badly my country performed at that tournament, it's all anyone can talk about... Not!

Just in case anyone else is interested - I noticed this afternoon that dorm/single/double options are all available now on A&O Hbf - the dorm bed there for match-day is €80 (without breakfast) so no better than the DJH offerings ... however, the A&O are MUCH cheaper on 24th and 26th (€40) ... so if you need reservation for 2-3 nights, better try them. www.aohostels.com/en/dortmund/dortmund-hauptbahnhof/

Must admit that I met a couple of Iranian boys in Turkey this Summer who were devastated by our poor show against their exiled homeland. They said that they started supporting the USA thereafter. And that by itself must be traumatic ;-(

Has anyone looked into applying for tickets before the TUESDAY lunchtime deadline? I put my hat in for a couple of the Belgian €30 Fans First ones - but didn't permit the upgrade.

Just a heads up to those of you that are looking into tournament tickets ... not to get caught out (like I did...) UEFA does not allow ticket applicants UNDER 18 years-old and will cancel applications for those not 18 by last day of application. They explain that an u18 will only be allowed in as a guest as the +1 on the applications.

I’ve applied for tickets for all the games we will play (or would have, if we fail, hence the application) Flights sorted and hotels booked with free cancellation. If I get the match tickets I’ll still go, even if we don’t qualify. Can’t go wrong with German beer, football and schnitzel for a fortnight ! Did the fan first + upgrade to next level option.

I just remembered that some of the views at the Olympiastadion are really bad because of the running track. A similar situation to Baku I guess.

No real interest in the tournament now that we’re out.
Will watch bits of a few games when I’m eating my tea or whatever, but won’t be watching properly.
Haven’t watched England* for about 15-20 years so won’t start now
*other than those games against us obviously.

Scotland are going to really struggle I think, there's something not right about them recently and I think they've been found out, their team and squad looks very patchy. I'd like to see them do well but I think they'll choke.

I'd like to see them do well but I think they'll choke. You never know what will happen at the tournament though, it only take a little confidence and momentum and then unfancied teams can run with it. Just look at us joining Euro 16 after a dreadful 3-0 loss in Sweden and on the back of poor form. We struggled slightly in the Slovakia game but managed to sneak the win, and then we just grew in confidence. Had we lost that opener, I don't think we would have gone half as far as we did. It's small margins.

Definitely will be watching and always hope the bigger teams get humbled. One good thing about not going to the tournament is you actually get to see more of it on TV.
As long as England don’t win it I don’t mind whatever happens. Looking forward to the opening match, hopefully it’ll be us in 2028.

Reading the excellent Soccernomics book and it confirms the intuitive notion that the team the goes first in a penalty shootout has a much better chance of winning (statistically 60 40 in favour), probably because of the extra pressure on players who rarely, if ever, have to take penalties ordinarily, when having to convert to keep their side in the tournament. Chances are, had we won the toss to determine who went first, that we would have won. Fine margins indeed.

Must admit I never knew (or forgot) that Callum Styles of Barnsley has 22 caps for Hungary!
Anyway I think I will support Holland for no other reason than I think when they beat us 3-2 (was it) in the pre Euro 2016 friendly, Roben was a delight to watch.
