We always travel even if we don't get tickets, as I've said in my previous post, I can't get up the stages because of the allocation problem, sorry for thinking I am entitled. I don’t think fans travelling without tickets are irrelevant. All credit to you for having that commitment and I’m sure I’d be frustrated. But it is unrealistic to expect the FAW to do something like provide free buses for ticketless fans. I’m sure they know there are ticketless fans travelling but there’s no way of them knowing how many. Plus an FA bussing in ticketless fans to a town / match would definitely be frowned upon. I can’t imagine any FA doing that. This is not a problem of the FAW’s making. I’d argue we should never have got to this position, but now we are, the FAW have done pretty well in managing it, with all the allocation maintained and free buses. Hope you enjoy the trip anyway. Thanks for a well balanced post 👍

I’d argue we should never have got to this position, but now we are, the FAW have done pretty well in managing it, with all the allocation maintained and free buses. Hope you enjoy the trip anyway. There are multiple issues which probably contribute to the frustration for ticketless fans on this occasion, more than others. The primary one obviously is the late venue change and the fact that it’s impossible to travel to Niksic and return to Podgorica, or the coast, on match-day, by public transport. I agree that isn’t directly an FAW problem. Most fans will have booked in advance of the ticketing criteria being known, some confident as they are in stage 1, others including me, less so, as further down the away game ticket league. When ticketless, we travel in hope that like recent games in Riga and Yerevan, we can obtain “alternative” tickets. Being in the host city is obviously an advantage in achieving this. It also ensures we can join the party before and after the match. The Montenegro game was always going to be popular, given the sunshine and beach combination. Also Iceland being relatively expensive and cold and Turkey being hosted in a beerless and cheerless city. On the negatives, I don’t understand how a stadium can be nominated for an international game if not compliant. Regardless of commitments to address any issues, the stadium should be graded as unacceptable, until it isn’t. That sits with UEFA / Montenegrin FA. Without knowing the inner workings of UEFA, it’s difficult to understand when the FAW first became aware of the issues. My thoughts are that even when there was communication with fans, it wasn’t explicit enough. (We’re going out next week for an inspection) The game at Podgorica was obviously in doubt for some time, speculation of alternative venues on social media filled the information void. That should never have been the case. So on that score, I would criticise the FAW for not spelling out the potential outcomes earlier. Would it have stopped me travelling ? Probably not, but I would have weighed it up, others may have decided differently. There would obviously have been more chance to get hold of alternative tickets, if the game was still in Podgorica, a larger stadium, where the home crowd rarely sell out. We’re atill going, still hoping to blag a ticket somehow and then get back to Podgorica after the game ! One positive aspect is that the relatively late departure time of the coaches from Podgorica, means that there will still be pre and post match parties there. The latter, hopefully celebrating a first away win of the Bellamy era.

Anyone from South Wales going on the 22:15 on Saturday night from T2 Heathrow going via Istanbul and arriving at Podgorica at 08:25? I'll be driving from Newport area and have space in the car.

Does anybody know if uber will run from dubrovnik airport to Montenegro?
When I put it in the app to get an idea of a price it works as normal. However, I’m reading conflicting things online about uber not running past the border

We are getting the ferry from dubrovnik port to budva, we were going to get a taxi but we would rather the more scenic, comfortable route. I will ask my mate which company he used.

In Kotor mate. We did look at the ferry but the times didn’t tie in with our flight landing. We are going straight from the airport to kotor see.
Uber looks very cheap (€55) compared to normal taxi (€130) which makes me wonder if its too good to be true

Any ideas where to watch the Turkey game in Budva? There's an English pub called the Prince who show football on TV but don't know if they can show the Turkey game or not. We are there Thursday so I will check.

Just looked at uber and it sure does say €55 from dubrovnik airport to kotor. If I was you I'd chance it when you get to dubrovnik, you could always haggle with the taxi drivers if uber doesn't come up trumps.

However, I’m reading conflicting things online about uber not running past the border We were planning to do the return trip from Budva by taxi, but ended up booking Flixbus, because it seemed easy. Since realised, that it wasn’t such a cunning plan, as the coach back from Budva drives straight past the airport without stopping. Meaning another shuttle bus back to the airport from Dubrovnik bus station @ €10 each. This is one taxi company we were looking at, no knowledge of them, they were mentioned a few times on tripadvisor. www.transfernovi.com/As a guide, their web site quotes €115 Dubrovnik airport to Budva and €95 to Kotor. By comparison, using our coach fares of €30 Flix + €10 airport shuttle each, for the trip from Budva. Plus the hassle of the Dubrovnik double shuffle, which applies in both directions, going from and back to the airport, with a Flixbus journey. A cab deffo makes sense

PODGORICA TICKET COLLECTION
For those needing to collect the tickets on match-day, Matthew has emailed me to confirm that: 1/. There is no official collection in Niksic (but if you are not going via Podgorica - please email him ASAP). 2/. The King's Hotel collection time will close on match-day at 6pm on Monday 9th September. This has been brought forward from the original end time of 6:30pm.

Agreed, particularly as organising stuff, wouldn’t appear to be the Montenegrin FA’s specialist subject. They’re probably still running around, looking in their shed for a watering can and trying to remember who took their kit home to wash after their last game. If I don’t hear anything from our landlord by Thursday, I’ll give him a gentle nudge. It also looks like the OP of the Tripadvisor thread (who is probably a member on here) is still on the case. Edit. There’s been a late update tonight on the Tripadvisor thread. Looks like I wasn’t far out in what I said above. Vuky · 3 Sept 2024, 20:50 Cepin, Croatia · 4,131 forum posts #3 of 4 · Malte, nothing so far. You will not believe me, but I spoke with the people from the Football Association of Montenegro. They still do not know an answer and they justify themselves that the situation is not yet under their control because of the sudden choice of the small stadium in Nikšić for that international match. The curiosity is in the fact that this is historically speaking the first time that Nikšić hosts the match of the national team. As soon as I find something out, I will inform you.

I asked on a forum for things to do in Podgorica and most replies just said to leave. Apparently it’s mostly an administrative capital for the government. All other cities in the country are better with much better things to do unfortunately as I’m also based there the entire time.

As I said up thread, I went there the last time and it was with a doubt the most boring capital city I have ever visited. Unfortunately I had booked an extra day so the last day I was there on my own, just sat in a bar eating and drinking, nowt else to do. It is my understanding, rightly or wrongly, that it was once called Titograd and was the adminstrative centre of the former Jugoslavia.

I’m sure it will be a laugh with a few hundred Wales fans staying there. Plenty of day trip options if you’re staying more than a couple of nights as well.

Don’t know what it is, but despite 3 of us going to Montenegro, our group chat this time is just very meh. No real excitement. Nothing. Hope we all feel different by Monday to be honest. Our numbers for the home game are down from 8 to 5 this time too. Can’t put my finger on it but just not feeling it.

Yeah gonna try get out of the City and see that big lake to fill one day.
Is it worth going to Budva for the day? I'm not sure.
Podgorica looks quite green with a few parks at least so can idle away some time there.
Annoyingly my free cancellation in Podgorica lapsed yesterday so switching to Budva is no longer an option. Ah well, Will make the most of what it is and hopefully see a win!

But for torrential biblical scale rain-fall, Elbassan was a stunningly beautiful old town. The pre-event pub in the city walls was lovely, and even the walk-up to the satdium was littered with loads of drinking/eating places.
If you want to talk of dire, I'd sooner mention our semi final stadium in Lyon and Aarhus...

Spent three days in Lyon, the city itself was fine, the nonsense getting to and from the ground I would agree with you.

Whole thing has been a nightmare and still no condemnation from anyone about the way Montenegro have handled this, oh well. Any further information on how to get into the home end and ticket sales would be appreciated.

I suppose the weather didn't help with Elbasan, and we left Tirana where we had a great time to go stay in Elbasan the night before our match. I just remember packs of dogs running the streets! And creepy dolls in shop windows! Result didn't help either. Aarhaus was a faff to get to. We stayed in Copenhagen. Lyon was great! Stadium location was shocking but as a city I much preferred Lyon to Paris.

For those carrying on to Albania / Kosovo / Serbia etc. It might be worth your while to withdraw €€ in Montenegro. Plenty of money exchange places there that give a very decent rate for € and US$
Possibly, the only bank that still doesnt charge €5 per ATM withdrawal is the Turkish ZIRAAT BANK - with branches in Podgorica and Budva

... Just one final bit of advice re E-SIM If you are using a multi-country eSim across borders - eg, Croatia/Montenegro/Albania etc. You may be wise to turn off Data Roaming until you are well-clear of the border and (once again) ensure that your eSim is activated for Data.
My Samsung stung me twice (£45 seems to be really easy to accumulate in 3-4 minutes!) crossing between Turkey-Georgia last year. It appears, that if your phone can not connect to the elected departure country carrier at the border, it will ignore your chosen eSim and default to your main (UK) carrier.
Probably best keeping it on AIRPLANE mode when crossing international borders, as well as at international airports!!
PS - you should certainly TURN OFF “Allow Data Switching” to avoid charges on your UK line... But that didn't seem to make any difference to my charges in June or to Three, when I challenged them ...
