Davies isn't a CB and never will be. ---------------------- Oh, so you know more about football than Michael Laudrup then? I see... Worst post ever. You could say that to any football fan that has any opinion on anything. 'I think this player should start over this player......' well you know more about this team than the manager of the team then? I see...

I just take issue with your assertion that 'he never will be' when one of the greatest players of the past 30 years, and a man proving himself to be a very shrewd manager, thinks he could.

How'd he do against West Ham? Dunno, would be interested to hear from Cardiff fans on this. Watched most of the game on line. he was't great, but then he was no worse than any of Cardiff's other defenders. You could see why Spurs were prepared to sell Caulker, and Connolly at right back was very poor.

George Ray Wales U21 player (center back):
The manner of the 6ft 6in 19-year-old's entry into professional football prompted television pundit Steve Claridge to joke: "His career can only go down from here."
"In training he heads everything and blocks everything. He is an unbelievable defender, and for him to make his debut at Wembley was stunning. I was really happy for him.

Was OK but well short of match practice. Just wish he had a bit more conviction when driving forward.
Maybe he needs to leave Swansea on loan to get some game time?

With both now fit it will be interesting to see who Laudrup plays.
I would just about prefer Davies myself and would play both for Wales as to have 3 of the back 4 training together day in day out can only be of benefit.
I also don't think we have a international standard right back, although Gunter and Matthews are okay

Davies is the better player. I'd like to see Taylor used at right back.

My view is that the two are quite different players. I do think that the emergence of Ben Davies made many forget what a good player that Neil Taylor is. I cannot decide which one I prefer. Both are great.
It is great to be discussing areas where we have options and the knowledge that if we lose one, the other will do well.
You have both overlooked Jazz Richards who was outstanding against Belgium and did not get the credit he deserved. Again, as with left back, we have some options with this position now.
But can Laudrup & Coleman (or his eventual replacement) make a centre half out of Ben Davies?

I'm afriad Richards is miles off the first team. He's made 7 appearances for Huddersfield Town this season.
Davies is currently first choice LB. Taylor and Matthews are battling for RB.
Dummett and Gunter should be next.
Followed by the pack: John/Isgrove/Richards/Eardley/etc

Agree to disagree on Richards but your posting does illustrate the point that Coleman made after the recent double header, namely that our strength in depth is greater than we, perhaps, realised.

With Matthews out, Taylor, Collins, Ashley Williams, Davies against Finland? Think it will be two halves: Richards, Williams, Collins, Taylor then Gunter, Williams, Collins, Taylor or the other way around? Do not think that Ben Davies will get much game time.

But can Laudrup & Coleman (or his eventual replacement) make a centre half out of Ben Davies? Yep. This makes a big and fundamental difference to the original question. If the answer is, both have a great future for Wales.

As a swans fan, Taylor was awesome before his injury but Davies. Has developed into an excellent player and is ahead at the moment.
Great to have both players available though.

Don't understand those saying Richards should keep his place because of his performance in Belgium but Gunter should be axed. Gunter was awesome in Brussels as well and will be very unlucky to be dropped
Gunter and Richards a half each at right back
Taylor and Davies a half each at left back
Dummett maybe 20 minutes at the end or to ply if Collins isn't fit.
The number of players available makes it all the more stupid that we are only playing one game.

As in at the same time? I think it would give us flexibility, and be particularly good away from home or in tough home games to have Taylor ahead of Davies. Would give us a lot of solidity and let the flair players do their thing. It could however reduce the fluidity of movement amongst the forward players, but we need to start learning how to get 0-0s in tough away games (please no one mention the Belgium game).

Yeah, to qualify we need to go to places like Serbia and Croatia and grind out 0-0's or nick 1-0 wins. Playing Taylor and Davies at the same time might help us do that.

Thought Taylor was very poor on Saturday and confirmed for me that Davies should start at left back for us.
Also, thought Gunter was solid and at the moment I believe he deserves the right back slot.

He was outstanding in Belgium. The good news is that this is not a worrying position, especially when considering we have Neil Taylor.

Richards did well in Belgium but he needs to be doing more to oust someone with 50 caps. Don't forget that Gunter was outstanding in Belgium playing out of position and it would of been harsh to have been dropped.
That being said with Collins out I would of played Gunter centre half and either Richards or Taylor at right back
