I see Emyr Huws has been listed as a registered player in Man City's U21 squad. Lots of speculation about a year ago that he was the next big thing after Aaron so anyone know what the latest is? I heard he had been injured for a while but nothing since..

Forgot about him! He needs to move - he won't get a chance under Mancini and if any of the 10 or so midfielders currently ahead of him fail then they'll buy someone else.

Erm, thanks for the reply - I think. I'm not expecting him to break into the Man City first team just yet - he's only 17 - I'm just curious as to what's happened to him. Here's how he was described on a Man City forum after they nicked him from Swansea last year:
"...15-year old youngster Emyr Hughes is a very bright talent and is wanted by Manchester City. Manchester City have paid his boarding school bills in Manchester and he's training with City and Swansea want compensation. Swansea could demand as much as £500,000 for the 15 year old who turns 16 in october and if they're not happy with the settlement then they'll take it to FIFA. He's made appearances for Wales-U17's + was the Wales-U16's captain and has been with Swansea since he was 9 years old. He's been quoted as the best Welsh youngster since Ryan Giggs. It looks likely that he will join Man. City when he turns 16 but it could fall through for claims of poaching."
And
"The Llanelli-born teenager is described as a dominating box-to-box midfielder, strong both in the air and in the tackle with a superb range of passing off both feet. Huws is the first youngster to play a year ahead of himself on the international stage since Arsenal whiz-kid Ramsey."
He's listed as a player in the U-19 squad on the FAW website but was not in Flynn's latest U-19 squad. Still injured I'm guessing but if he's as good as the description above then it would be good to know what's going on...

i disagree - if he is good enough, he will get his chance. but he'll have to be remarkably good to be better than players like silva and toure. adam johnson is a starter for them - and they got him from the championship. give the lad time.

Erm, thanks for the reply - I think. Any time! If he's as good as people believe then even at 17 he needs to be on the bench and coming on - look at Rambo and Fabregas before him. Loan move to somewhere like Bolton then - but in some ways as there's no talk of him in Flynn's squad then let's hope he's still injured. One thing i have faith in with this Welsh set-up is that youngsters with talent are identified and are given a chance, so even if he gets lost in the Man City petro-dollars he'll play with Wales which will give him some telly time.

What's happened to him? He seems to have disappeared. Not in the Wales U19 squad, I don't think. Is he injured at the mo? Was hotly tipped at one time.

Anyone know if any more came of this (from 30th Sept) "Meanwhile, the Swans are also due to put their compensation case with Premier League Manchester City before a tribunal next week over 17-year-old Emyr Huws who left for Eastlands over two years ago after coming through the junior ranks at the Liberty Stadium. I was talking to a former wales youth coach about 2 year ago and he said out of the next generation emyr and higgins where the ones to look out for.
i made an emyr huws thread at that time and people just took the piss, according to the guy i spoke too he was going to be brilliant and man city had to fight with man utd and arsenal for his signature!

yes that higgins, this guy was also keen on dalley and mentioned how gunter used to not own a phone so they would have to drive to newport and knock on his door to say he was in the team and how leonne jeanne kept selling his youth kits down splot market

Emyr Huws plyed for Manchester City tonight against Oldham, one mention of him on Twitter. -
(72.) Emyr Huws with a wonder ball which sees Jordi Hiwala through on goal but the striker gets it caught under his feet. Open game now. 1-1.

Emyr on loan move to Northampton Town until Jan 5th according to Man city website. "Manchester City coach says Emyr Huws move to Northampton Town is 'perfect'"
THE head of Manchester City's Academy says Aidy Boothroyd's pedigree of developing young players was a major factor in the decision to allow the captain of their Under-21 side to join Northampton Town on loan. Emyr Huws, a left-footed midfielder, has joined the Cobblers on loan until January and will hope to learn from Boothroyd who played a role in shaping the early careers of Ashley Young, Ben Foster, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Adam Johnson while at Watford. "Northampton is a perfect fit for him [Emyr]," Mark Allen, City's Academy chief, said. "Aidy takes player development very seriously and it's a win win situation for us. He [Emyr] will get experience of league football and he will hopefully give something to Aidy's team. We see this very much as the next stage in his development." Allen said the club planned to send the 19-year-old Wales youth international out on loan but chose the Cobblers because of Boothroyd's research. "It's nice for a manager to ring us up and know something about our player rather than just ring up and say, 'Have you got a midfielder we can have?', Allen said. Boothroyd acknowledged he had been tracking the midfielder for two years. "Emyr is a player we have watched over the last couple of seasons," Boothroyd said. "He is a very good player and someone who I think will make a big difference to our squad." Huws joined City from Swansea City in 2009, teaming up with fellow Welshman Allen, who joined City in the same year. "He's a good passer, he's confident on the ball, he's got good tenacity and an air of authority about him," Allen said. "Injuries stunted his progress in his early days but he's over that now and is a very focussed young man." Allen said Attilio Lombardo, City's Under 21 coach, was "very much part of the decision-making process" to send Huws to Northampton and believes the teenager has the ability to eventually push for a spot in Roberto Mancini's squad. "He's committed to the club for a few more years and the intention is he will get a chance," Allen said.
How about a call up for the Welsh senior squad. He is good enough.
