He needs a permanant move to somewhere he'll be played regularly with a manager who believes in him. Brighton could work out. He's had so many loans now, just like Scott Sinclair did. I hope he flourishes now the way Sinclair has at the Swans.

I'd be very pleased for the guy if he started banging in the goals. He's got a lot of talent for a target man striker

Just watched the youtube video and one question springs to mind. Why are we so wank at taking penalties? They are either saved or they scramble in through luck.

Best Welsh penalty of recent years? Probably Ledley's vs Luxembourg.
Recent Welsh penalty takers in reverse order (I think):
Ramsey v Swtzerland (scored) Ledley v Luxembourg (scored) Earnshaw v Estonia (scored) Bellamy v Leichtenstein (saved) Bale v Russia (saved) Koumas v Azerbaijan (saved)
6 different penalty takers in a row- must be some sort of international record...

Vokes got another today. Brighton are 4th in the championship. This move seems to have been good for him and them. I hope it's made permanent in the summer.

I hope that if they do get promoted, and the keep him, they go with the Norwich/Swansea approach of keeping faith that the current players can step up. Interesting piece on the dangers of taking the 'buy next level players' approach...(point no.3) www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/mar/26/five-things-learned-this-weekend

Burnley have officially signed Wales striker Sam Vokes on a 3 year deal!!! Hopefully he can settle down now and get a run of games.

Think he previously played there on loan?

How many clubs has he played for? 35-40 games a season for the club in each of the next two seasons is what he needs. No more injuries, benchwarming or loan appearances.

He must assert himself and score every 180 minutes or better.

The best possible move for Vokes to make is to a club where he actually plays. And doesn't get injured. I hope for his and for Wales' sake that club is Burnley.

He must assert himself and score every 180 minutes or better. Never in a million years. If he score every 270 minutes, he'll be doing very very well.

I don't really see him as a prolific goalscorer, but he's the kind of striker who-when fit and in form- brings a lot to the team even if he isn't scoring goals.

Seen glimpses of what he can do [Norway last November and Montenengro away three years back come to mind] but need to see it regularly beginning from two weeks time from him. I hope he remains fit and lets see how it goes for him.

The 2008 game vs Russia was his best performance. Gave the defenders hell whilst playing up front on his own and ran himself into the ground

He's having an excellent start to the season with Burnley, and his international record of 5 goals in 26 isn't bad, considereing he's only 23.. how many international goals did Hartson have when he was 23? Bananaman wrote a piece the other day about our lack of striking options, and he dismissed Vokes because of his poor club goalscoring record. Imagine if Northern Ireland had done the same with David Healy! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Healy_(footballer)

Agree Flynfan - he hardly ever starts and IMO should be our target man - how many goals as sub has he got?
Important winner v. Azerbaijan 2 against Norway
We have players who like to cross the ball (with nobody there to finish it off) he is perfect as our lone striker, but the problem is he has never been tried in that position (as far as i know?)

He did miss a 1 v 1 earlier in the game though - thats the difference between an international class striker and someone from the lower leagues who is called up to make up the numbers.
Vokes can miss these sorts of efforts for Burnley, but I'm sorry but you cannot miss those at international level because we create so few presentable chances as it is. Thats why I am all in favour of Bale playing as a lone forward, at least you know that if he gets a decent chance that ball is going in the net.

Out of all our striker options he has the best header (superb at heading) and definitely the one with most physical presence...hope he has a good season in the Championship. Vokes up top and Bale behind him?
