Are we better with him - evidence please? I agree its possible we could be better but equally it may f&*^ it up!
To me, Vokes seems pretty happy to "do the boring stuff" and let others take a chunk of the glory.
By this I mean he recognises HRK and Bale have the pace and guile to unlock defences quicker than he can.
He seems happy to hold the ball up and play others in around him instead of turning and running himself.
For years we seemed to play with independent units but Vokes at least can hold the ball up and wait for the midfield to storm up alongside him.
As others have mentioned, nobody else seems willing or able to do this. Steve Morison couldn't to the same effect while Craig Davies looks happiest for Bolton poaching in the box.
Wales can't afford the luxury of a poacher in a lot of games so we need a grafter and a link-up man. Vokes seemed to be doing this before the injury so let's have him back quickly please.

Great news, I personally think we miss him badly despite his limitations.
He is the best number 9 we have by a country mile and will allow Bale to play either wide or in a free role where he will do more damage.
Fingers crossed for a full recovery and a couple of months of premiership football before the Israel game

We're yet to see an in-form Vokes playing as the tip of the spear in an in-form Wales side high on confidence. This is pretty much what it all boils down to I think the one time we did see something approaching this was the Iceland friendly. We won 3-1 (against a very decent team, as we've seen from their results over the past 2 years or so). Oh, and Vokes scored.

Played 90 min in reserves on Tuesday, good news for him and us He's on the home straight now and will be playing within the next fortnight. He's now training daily with the senior side and will (probably) have another 90 next Tuesday for the dev side's final match of the year v Crewe. If I was a betting man I'd say keep an eye out for him to have a 10 min or so run out off the bench from Boxing Day onwards, they have 3 games in 5 days from 26/12/14 onwards so he should get some action somewhere in the middle of that lot.

I think he'll be a welcome option, but one thing that counts against him - particularly based on how well we've done so far - is how inflexible he is in terms of position and his skillset.
I mean, this is fine if you're Zlatan. But Vokes ain't Zlatan.

With the amount of goals he's scoring I wonder how far away he's from making a first team appearance!

Anyone else see 'Arry Redknapp talking about Charlie Austin ('if you can score 20 goals in the championship then you'll score goals in the premier league too') Vokes got 21 last season...

Don't remember Vokes having any impact in that game with that exception? Again, delighted to be proved wrong. happy xmas!!

I wasn't expecting him to move mountains just hope he takes his reserve side form with him into the seniors.

For now I just hope he stays injury free for a few months, cruciate injuries have a tendency to reoccur.

Given Burnley's plight to his credit and Wales delight their manager seems to be taking the long term view with Sam.
Dyche explains Vokes omission
30 December 2014
Burnley manager Sean Dyche has shed light on his reasons for leaving Sam Vokes out of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
Wales international Vokes was instrumental in firing Burnley to Championship promotion last season, netting 20 league goals as he forged a productive partnership with Danny Ings.
But his campaign was curtailed by a serious knee injury suffered in March, and the 25-year-old only made his first-team return as a late substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Friday.
Dyche elected not to include Vokes in the matchday squad for the trip to Manchester City two days later, and aims to slowly ease the striker back into the fray.
"Sam had a big adrenaline hit when he came back," said Dyche.
"He's been out for nine months and to have that rush, from a fantastic reception from the crowd, is a massive thing and all part of adapting back to full fitness.
"I'm an ex-player and you can't understand it unless you have been through it.
"I can assure you, after that you feel a bit flat, so I explained that to him and leaving him out at City was my decision.
"Two games in three days, in his case, was too early and I just told him to have a few down days and he will come back in serious thinking as we move forward."

Was I the only one watching that Harry Kane for Spurs against Chelsea and rather enviously thinking "perhaps Vokes could do that for us..."

No, I was just thinking 'its amazing what a shit player can do when they put their mind to it, maybe our shit players could do the same...'
Oh wait, I suppose its the same thing.
Good to see Burnley taking it slow with him. After all, we need him fit in March, not January!

Scored tonight v Spurs. Just watched his goal and the movement was very good losing his marker and making space well to slot home.

Both Burnley's chances can down Davies' side with him caught out of position.
But good cross from him and good finish from Vokesy!
