He got his sixth goal in nine games tonight, 13 league games left for him to beat his 13/14 record of 20 goals.

Must remember also that the Sam that missed those chances in the Andorra game was probably not fully fit and certainly not in the club form he now evidently is.

Clutching at straws springs to mind, even when in form vokes has never shown he can be a serious threat at international level. So much so that he makes church look a highly mobile striker?

I would go with Vokes every time over Church. We have enough runners, all of which have something on top, if that is all Church is there for. Vokes is a genuine target up top, can hold the ball up, head and offers a physical presence. Although he's missed a fgew sitters here and there he can finish too and is prolific in the championship (hopefully premier next year).

He has 5 or 6 goals for Wales to be fair. He's a more confident finisher than churchy at the moment but agree he isn't as mobile and doesn't stretch teams as much. Did well when he came on vs Israel away

He never really got much game time with us while he was on that great run of form before the injury.
Besides, as Rich intimated, he is comfortably our best 'old-fashioned target-man'. I would never consider starting him because of his lack of mobility, I agree with that yanto, but we do need more than plan a.

Can't believe that people are comparing Church with Vokes
Sam is our number 1 striker, Simon may be in our top 5, not sure.

Vokes is the highest scoring Welsh player over the last three years in the Championship and above, bar Ramsey (I say this without checking, but imagine it's true.)
As JDearth says, he is our number one striker, like it or not. Church is nowhere near Vokes. The only question is whether Cookie continues to play HRK up front for his pace if we are playing on the counter attack. Tom Lawrence is an outside bet, but he would have to show some sensational form between now and the end of the season, plus the fact he's playing as a winger at Cardiff.
Personally I would rather see Vokes up front, he's superior to HRK in holding the ball up, linking play, and scoring goals.

In terms of goals Sam is our best striker, apart from Bradshaw who plays a level lower, but he doesn't really fit the system we are currently playing which is a shame. You can't always get your best 11 on paper onto the pitch at the same time.

I play Vokes and Bale up top as a pairing, and I feel that may be the best way for us to go, when we head to France. Vokes the target man. Bale and Ramsey can keep playing off him. I really think we should give Bradshaw a chance in the upcoming friendlies. He can finish, he is quick, and he loves to get in behind defenders, something Vokes/Church, don't do - not sure if this is out of habit/or instruction, however.

I think what we need to ask is: 'Will replacing HRK with Vokes as the focal point improve our results?' Well to be honest I think we would score more goals. This was our only real problem throughout the qualifiers apart from the Israel game. I think it could work but it would be a shame to see HRK dropped for the tournament proper. That aside there is no room for sentiment at the top table.

Cracking goal from Sam Vokes against QPR. If he is prepared to make those runs surely we have the quality to find him.

And he's only 26, well done! Good goal from Bradshaw today too. Is HRK still injured? If so, surely a no brainer that Vokes starts in France. We are lucky he's ending the season fit and in form. Even if HRK is fit I'd prefer Vokes up front tbh. Okay HRK has the pace, but Vokes holds the ball up better and has more goals in him.

"They've got the breakthrough! Free-kick on the right side of the box, whipped in by Jones and Vokes runs across it and flicks the header on and into the far corner. Could be the goal that sends Burnley into the Premier League."

I hope that he is just out of favour as he is still refusing to sign a new contract and will be leaving Reading on a Bosman this summer. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/watford-southampton-scrapping-out-wales-7877424

Not much talk on here about Sam's first ever premier league goal on Saturday (and it was an absolute belter btw). We're quick enough to post about him when he's playing shit. Were we not impressed?

I didn't see the game so can't comment on his all round play but it was a great strike. He sure loves a Belgian 'keeper!

Yep nice goal. Hopefully he will get into double figures to prove that he can cut it at that level and his partnership with Gray is looking good.

Great goal fairplay. Our striking options look a little bit better beginning of this campaign already, with Vokes looking good along with Bradshaw playing in the Championship. All we need now is for HRK to find a club.

All we need now is for HRK to find a club. If Ched gets found innocent they could be looking even better after October, or more specifically January when he gets a move to a Championship club.

Maybe he should see out the season at Chesterfield at least. He owes them some loyalty after taking him in when no one else would.

Its win win for Chesterfield if ched gets found not guilty. They either keep him im guessing on his current contract, must be quite a bit below the going rate for a striker of his quality or sell him for 3 - 4 million?

They won't get that for him- he is on a one year contract and the vultures will soon be circling. If found not guilty they will either try to desperately cash in in January and hope the bidding war can push it past 2 million or cling on grimly and hope he can get them promoted before he leaves on a free transfer.

They will be glad that they took the chance on him. They have a championship level striker who is clearly too good for that league and paid nothing. I wonder what sort of stick he is getting from opposition fans though, anyone know about this?

I've not been a big fan ,he gives us something different off the bench, and that's all I've seen him as.But I thought His performance last night was immense he ran his proverbials off ,pity the header didn't go in but he occupied their three centre backs and gave Ramsey room to shine.
