"Shitty Church" is harsh, he plays especially well with Aaron Ramsey. Sam Vokes should definitely start for us, normally with Ramsey in an attacking role behind him but either J.Williams or Bale behind him against Iceland. quetzal I rate Hennessey a lot, and think Myhill is good too. But I agree that as long as they're not getting 1st team football that can't be good for us.

With Bale supplying the crosses he'll score i'm sure of it. Such as against Austria

He is on Football Focus this lunchtime with Danny Ings.
Should be worth a look.

Very good player and coming into form at the right time for us. Give him the full 90 on Wednesday and try and find the best way to play him. He could be the premier league striker we have been waiting for, won't set the world alight but I have every confience he is above average International striker.

I have to agree that 2 strikers upfront will work best for both Vokes and Church, I'm in favour of a 4-3-1-2 formation.
Myhill
Matthews Collins A Williams B Davies
Ramsey Ledley J Williams
Bale
Vokes Church
Subs - Hennessy, Ricketts, Taylor, Allen, King, Robson-Kanu and Lawrence.
I would rather have Allen over Ledley, but a defensive midfielder is needed so Ramsey and J Williams can go forward (especially Williams). Maybe give Lawrence a chance instead of Church in a few games and these players alternate.
B Davies - Taylor J Williams/Ledley - Allen/Huws Church - Lawrence Myhill - Hennesey
Perhaps trying Taylor at right back maybe an option.

Allen is an infinitely superior deep lying midfielder to Ledley. Also Hennessey must play ahead of Myhill.

Playing two up front is - as Dutch Ray would say - Jurassic Park stuff. Especially when one of them is Simon Church. Not to mention that once you've set your team up for two traditional strikers up front, what do we do when Vokes and church aren't available? Maybe we'd have Steve Morrison and Craig Davies up front for us while Joe Allen, Jack Collison, Andy King and Emyr Huws sit on the bench.
Madness.
And as for Jonny "no senior goals, on loan to Ipswich" Williams picked in front of joe "15m pounds, MOTM for the team that just went 2nd in the premier league" Allen?
Utter madness.

Thought he had poor service last night. Lack of communication from Hennessey's clearances as to where he should be.
The positive is that he was in the right place to score. (One for my Burnley friend who died last week.)
(Sorry, trying to get it out of my system with the funeral tomorrow.):-(

Vokes is by far our best option up front and it's key he stays fit and in form
However, he needs to work on his first touch which was very poor against Iceland

He is the big, physical forward we've been needing for quite some time. If only he was a bit more agile and faster. I would have liked to have seen him start 2/3 years ago. He has always been the best player in that position for us, so never understood why on earth we played Morrison.
The only competition he has for that centre forward position is Kanu, who I would like to see starting as number 9 at some point. I dunno how well he'd be at holding the ball up and winning headers, but I can see him linking up, and making some darting runs.

Perhaps its a good sign that although he didn't have a particularly good game vs Iceland, he still scored? He was in the right place for that header, and given the way Bale shoots, there will be opportunities to get plenty more rebound goals in future. One of the big frustrations of the past few years, and especially the TOshack years was the lack of a striker in the box to put the simple chances away.
Vokes now has 6 goals in 31 games and considering most of those were as sub, his record is very good. If he wins 100 caps he should get around 20 or so goals, and that'll be good enough for me.
If Bale wins 100 caps, I think he'll break Ian Rush's goalscoring record.

I remember watching him for the u21's and seeing him as a potential Big John for the future. I'm glad he's come on a lot this season and is fulfilling his early promise. I'm just gutted that Church did not quite push on in the same way and has stalled to become a very average championship striker. Could be one of the most important players for us this campaign as we have no cover.

Bad news, let's hope he makes a full recovery. In the grand scheme of things thugh if we have to have one major injury between now and the qualifiers (and as its wales it seems like we must) then with it being Vokes its not the end of the world. He will be back for the second double header all being well.
The main question is who to play up front in his absence? The options are ridiculously, pathetically poor, to the point of being a damning indictment. Knowing Coleman it will be Church, who doesn't seem to be rated by Charlton fans- quite the opposite sadly. Morison isn't doing a great deal to stake a claim.
I think we could get away in the friendlies & against Andorra with no striker, but against Bosnia we will need someone to occupy their defence as playing without a striker against a top team would be madness for us. The best I can suggest for that game would be Bale up front, but we would lose his driving runs from deep which is our best asset.
Fingers crossed Vokes will be back for that game.

This is really bad for us. Not only will it leave us without a decent striker for our opening few qualifiers but it may put his place in Burnleys premier league team in jeopardy. They will likely go out and sign another striker now.

Not too big a blow. In the formation we play he wouldn't have scored many goals.
Bale, Ramsey, Ash, Allen, Collins.... are much more vital, with other players on the same vitality level.
Still, he is a guaranteed starter, so I hope he gets fit asap and bangs them in for Burnley in the prem next season and helps us out in the qualifiers.

Nightmare for Sam, Burnley and us.
Whilst we know his limitations he has scored over 20 goals this season and has been improving week on week.
The problem for us is we don't have a replacement, for me Church is not good enough and Morison and Easter aren't either
In saying that I would probably play Church in Andorra and shock Bosnia by bringing back Bellamy

Great shame for Sam, which certainly limits our options. I think we should go with HRK in the striker's role, at least in the forthcoming friendlies. He's certainly more mobile than Sam, as well as being strong enough to hold up the ball. If we go down this route, could it trigger a recall request for Bellamy - at least until we have HRK available for the wing again?

As it stands, what with Church having such a dismal season, HRK is our best shout (sadly.) he's been playing up front for reading at least, I believe.
Lawrence at Yeovil - he's more of an attacking wide man, right?
