Shit. This could be worse than we think. What if up to now Coleman has been drilling the team for a 5-3-2 with Dummett, Williams, Chester as back three? If we have to swap to 4-4-2 that could be a big disruption. Or perhaps Gunter plays in back three, with Matthews/Henley/Richards at RWB? Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed I hope you are taking the piss? ? Doomed? How many people had Dummett in their starting line up? Lets get real. Its a blow but could have been a lot worse

Dummett shouldn't be starting anyway, I don't rate him at all. Would rather Gunter at CB if it got down to it

I think he's had a hamstring injury before, and if you're suggesting he didn't want to play then why would he wait until today to declare himself injured? Not quite sure if you're making a point or just stating a fact. Stating a fact. Think he's been capped once in 18 months and he has probably pulled out 3 or 4 times. Hopefully it's purely down to bad luck. He's missed most of the season for Newcastle through injury so this isn't an isolated case. Shows some promise but won't be too much of a massive miss

This is a bad blow as we are thin on the ground and now have only a few and much weaker options at the back
We are now missing 3 defenders who played a lot of games in the EPL, we went a long time without that many defenders in the league so shows how we are progressing
Can't afford any more injuries

I don't fancy Gunters chances there against Benteke and Lukaku and co if he was called upon

Dummett always seems injured or pulls out of the squad when an international rolls up, so it's no real loss.

If we have been preparing to play 5 at the back with Dummett then he's a big loss. No easy replacement there either now. I think Henley may play now in his place.

We've gone 4-3-3 in every game against Belgium. The Collins injury probably took away all thought of springing a surprise and going 5 at the back. No big deal unless we get an injury during the game.

The whole point of Dummett playing was that he was left footed and could fit in in place of Ben Davies. Yet, Henley is right footed so there would be no point of playing him at LCB and if Gunter came to RCB, that would mean that the three centre backs would be right footed, leaving them vulnerable on their left side.

Dummett out is a blow
He probably wouldn't have started - but he would be first choice cover for left or centre back.
We down to Championship players if defenders need to come off tomorrow now.

With Fellaini being injured, chances are Belgium will play 1 up front (Lukaku/Benteke/Origi) with Hazard behind him. We'll probably start 4 at the back like we did in Brussels, with Allen and Ledley sitting in front.

Don't see this as any loss, really. Personally, I'd say that we were always going to play four at the back for this one. In the last three games against them, we've played four at the back, and we haven't played five at the back during the first two home qualifiers of this campaign. Also, Belgium always play only one striker.

Spot on. Its not a crisis but it leaves us with inexperienced players as cover. The starting 11 will need to put in a full 90 minutes.

Doesn't he play more left back though. Its not what i would choose but I'm guessing he will be picked to slot in instead of Dummett with the back 5 remaining as was - so no great shake up of the defence that they have practice with. changing one player for another would be simpler than rearranging the full backs who i guess would have already been well drilled in their positions and are key to our tactics. Gunter Chester Williams Henley Taylor

Whatever happens we haven't got another decent left footed player (with davies and dummett injured) to slot in there, so defence will be predominantly right footed. i would prefer a back 4 but from the practice match pics it looked like a back 5 set up

It is a blow as I expected 5 at the back with Dummett as the 3rd centre half.No cover now for centre half or LB.Imbalance of squad with 4 RBs but only 2 centre halfs.Surely could have selected Morgan or Nyatanga ahead of Henley or Richards.

I'd rather have a Championship player who has played all season, rather than a bench warmer who gets a free pass because he's at a PL club that only just survived.

Don't get the hype with Dummett. If we played 5 at the back I'd rather it was Gunter as cb and Matthews at rwb

Coleman has said that the coaches are not prepared to risk anyone and jeopardise their club commitments or jeopardise the relationship they have with club managers. Dummett, and Collins for that matter, might be, say, 80% fit or have niggles which could be managed through a game but Coleman has made it clear that that isn't good enough.
It's not so much a case of being injured but more a case of not being fit enough. Perhaps he was never likely to play but could do enough to contribute to the training.
What chance a Gabbidon call up and despite little football puts in a typically vintage performance, like against Holland last year, and finally wins a 50th cap to boot?

They were singing his praises on Radio 5 live. Taylor cannot take his place for granted - given his indifferent club form. Real competition for places can only be a good thing.
