He was also a whisker away from a terrible yellow card as well, bordering on red. Otherwise he played well - better than usual. Are you referring to the high foot on Tadić? That wasn't bordering on red, no way. No, he went flying in on the touchline, close to the Serbian bench - who in turn made some noise about the tackle. I haven't watched the highlights, but I think he won the ball with his head or something.

Disappointing but may have bit of a beef at not getting a look in, in this campaign given he was in better form than current incumbent.

You never quit your country....
His heart was never really in it though.
He had his selfie with Bale so he's happy.

Very very disappointing. Shows what kind of man he is here:
"It's a shame because he's a good player. I haven't spoken to Paul. His agent rang me up to give me the news."

Good. We don't need players whose hearts aren't in it anyway.

Unlike you all, I'm siding with Dummett here. Coleman's been far too loyal to certain out of form players this campaign, and I'm saddened that a Premier League regular is not going to be available to us when we're a nation of already limited resources.
I personally would have liked to see him start a few times during this campaign, and I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to the fold when Coleman leaves.

The fact he announced via his agent probably explains why Cookie hasn't selected him in previous squads. He's no doubt always communicated that way and not man to man.
We can do without half hearted Anglos poisoning the camp anyway so no great loss.

He was in the Championship last year mate! Call me old fashioned, but you don't retire from your country your country retires you. His heart is obviously not in it so we are better off without him. To quit at 25 really shows the character of the guy as with Taylor now out for a few games this would have been his real opportunity to stake a place in the team.

Think he's been pissed off at turning up and not playing and then lossing his Newcastle place. While Coleman has tried other options and players out of position rather than him. He knows he's only going to play if Taylor is injured and that he won't get to play any friendly games as Coleman doesn't use them to try things.
He's a better option than Taylor yet hasn't been given an opportunity despite being a regular for Newcastle this season in a promotion winning side

He didn't even have the respect to speak to Coleman about his decision. For me, that shows the weak character of the guy.

Dummett's priority has always been Newcastle over Wales, he's a local lad so that's his prerogative.
When the ROI squad was announced, Coleman said in the press conference that Dummett was having injections on his knee and didn't want to overstrain himself playing international football. For all we know this and other excuses have occurred on other occasions.
The commitment and ambition to play for Wales clearly isn't there so its no fault of Coleman's. Dummett just doesn't fancy it.

We've had enough half-arsed players in the past *cough Giggs cough* and I for one would not want him anywhere near the squad. I want people proud to wear the shirt, proud to belt the anthem. Rather youth were given a chance.

He's been half committed all along and this is well overdue. Looks like he's used his being selected to announce his retirement for maximum impact. Seriously fuck players like this. They are absolute poison for what we have built and are trying to sustain for the long run. Sets a terrible example to younger players. I think Cookie's words are soft and perhaps well considered for political reasons. In truth, Dummett should never ever be considered for Wales again.
Great news for Walsh, Lockyer and potentially others. Hopefully the exposure from being selected in Welsh squads will see them get moves to higher levels. I believe they both have potential to be Championship players at least.

Been on the cards for a while. Half hearted in commitment to Wales, disappointing but not a huge loss.
Will he be in the Newcastle 1st eleven next season??
Better to highlight those that are committed to the cause.

Benitez will seriously strengthen next year so there's a good chance he wont even make the match day squad let alone the starting 11.
Very short sighted from someone in their mid 20s.

I was hoping someone would say this before me. All the others are 'stuff him' 'who cares' etc... usual tripe. He did not get a chance even when Taylor was playing awful and we could have pushed Davies out on the left and had Dummett as the LCB. This side is ring-fenced which will cause problems further down the line.

This is a poor attitude for a 25 year old. You don't retire, your country retires you.

I think Coleman managed this badly.
Dummett should have played earlier in the qualifiers - but instead he played 4 at the back, which we never do.
Coleman lost us Boaz Myhill too a few years ago, by blindly playing Hennessey irrespective of Myhill playing in the Premiership and Hennessey stuggling to get into a Championship team.
I'd welcome Paul Dummett back once Coleman leaves. But I do agree that "You don't retire, your country retires you" and Dummmett should have just grinned and bared it.

Really don't get people who are siding with Dummett on this. He's pulled out of two squads before today to concentrate on Newcastle. We only know a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's shown a bad attitude and lack of commitment throughout. Our whole success is based on the togetherness and commitment of the group, and Dummett clearly doesn't fit into that.

Boaz Myhill was absolute dogshit for us, cost us points. Croatia game being one of a few. Paul Dummett has the heart of a pea. We dont need player's like that anywhere near the team, poison. He wasn't born here and you've got to assume his pea was never in it. Also, he doesn't have kids to anyone saying he wants more family time...

More time with his children?! He's a footballer ffs, his normal day finishes before 1 o'clock! It should be an honour to come and sit on the bench for Wales - I know 99% of all posters on here would sit on the bench for Wales for 50 years if it meant a chance of a game. Blimey, are you Paul Dummett by any chance?

With that attitude I'm guessing once Wales's form drops off again you won't bother turning up to games anymore??? If Dummett hasn't got the hunger to fight for his place then his loss not ours.
