Wales is hosting this year's UEFA Women's Under 19 Championship, which means we qualified automatically.
Wales fixtures:
Monday 19th August Wales v Denmark (Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli, 2pm).
Thursday 22nd August Wales v England (Richmond Park, Carmarthen, 2pm).
Sunday 25th August Wales v France (Bridge Meadow, Haverfordwest, 3pm).
Most of the games are played as double headers, with two matches at the same venue each day (for instance Wales v Denmark is followed by Germany v Norway). A group stage ticket gets you admission to any of the 12 group games.

Took my daughter to her first ever game today. Wales v Denmark at Parc Y Scarlets. Free parking, free entry and the roadshow trailer outside was giving away copies of the voice mag as well as UEFA lanyards and inflatable noise makers. You blow them up and hit them together and it sounds a bit like two cans hitting each other. Before the game kicked off the Wales girls booted balls into the crowd. Unfortunately we didn't get a free ball. The game itself was drab. Denmark scored a free kick after an hour to win 1-0. But the main thing was it was a decent afternoon out. There were 700 odd in there. I have to say from what I have seen the FAW have done a good job here, it's just a shame the media have ignored it. Apart from some adverts the FAW will have paid for there is virtually no mention of Wales' first ever international tournament. No doubt people will hear about it too late and blame the FAW, in this instance they're not to blame. There were cameras at the game and Eurosport boards up so perhaps in a few weeks/months time they may show highlights. But the BBC/S4C should hang their heads in shame. If you are near Llanelli, Carmarthen or Haverfordwest over the next week or so I recommend going to a game. www.uefa.com/womensunder19

That Danish team has a lot of talent, very well organised. Saw most of them at U17 level a couple years ago when they smashed us in Llandudno.

Had this been a rugby tournament, I expect that there would have been media coverage. Sounds like the FAW have done a good job, proving that Football Forums are not always the fairest reflection of their performance.
Thanks stu & vandenhauwe!

I don't recall ever seeing coverage of a junior women's rugby international. Never. Not once. Compare the media coverage with what you think it merits not what your bias thinks rugby would get.

I am being subjected to the burden of proof, which is fair Like you, I do not recall such a tournament but my expectation - even about a hypothetical situation - remains. The general bias towards rugby at BBC/S4C is something I stand by and have previously given examples of the disparity and provided retorts to the cost justification.

Good man stu for going. And sending us that report. Hope your daughter enjoyed the afternoon. She did although the game wasn't the best. In contrast the evening game at Parc Y Scarlets saw Germany 5-0 up at half time and they missed a penalty. Good job we haven't got them in our group!

BBC Radio Wales (Fran Donovan & Rob Phillips) were live at Parc Y Scarlets on Monday afternoon. There was a full preview of the tournament in Radio Wales Sport on Monday. I've heard tournament organiser Rebecca Crockett interviewed twice on Good Morning Wales about the competition. Results from all the matches were in the Radio Wales and Radio Cymru sports bulletins on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. So not everyone is ignoring the tournament.

Who's going to Wales v England tomorrow at Parc Y Scarlets, then?

I'm going, but rather that the odd report here or there the BBC could use one of their channels to actually commentate on the games, it's not like they don't have enough channels. They could use MW/FW/DAB or online.
People need to remember that Wales is on trial here for an even bigger tournament and whilst the FAW are doing their bit it's also important that the media and fans do their bit too.
Short of going to every game which is impossible the only way of staying up to day is via the UEFA website which is simply not good enough. A media package ought to be part of the deal for these tournaments to enable countries who want to host them properly to be able to do so.

They started better today than against Norway, again it was 0-0 after an hour but fitness looked like it proved decisive as they went on to lose 3-0. Highlight was England missing a penalty which drew the loudest cheer of the game.
One thing I have noticed is that they look to play out from the back but avoid playing out down the left. They did once today but didn't at all against Norway. Also they tend to pass it along the back a bit before the keeper boots it out. Bit of a waste and it makes them very predictable.

It was great to see a crowd of over a thousand at Parc Y Scarlets yesterday, although around a third were England fans. I also spoke to fans from Finland and Norway who'd travelled over for the tournament. And there were around 300 at Stebonheath for Denmark v France, including around 40 fans from Denmark.
The real legacy would be if some of those fans returned to watch the Wales women's team the next time they play, or if more girls in Wales take up football as a result of going to the matches.
One bit of constructive criticism: I wonder if the purple UEFA/FAW volunteers could/should have had a presence at Llanelli railway station and Llanelli town centre. Even if that was a purple UEFA banner or a poster at the railway and bus stations.
I got the impression a lot of people in the town didn't realise there was a tournament going on. Given the late change in venue, advertising the Wales v England match around the town might have reaped its rewards.

I believe it was a record crowd for a home Wales women's international (including full international level). I've no idea what the record is for the Euro Under 19s. The record for a women's international in Wales is held by the Millennium Stadium for the Olympic football, around 33,000 I think.

Given the late change in venue, advertising the Wales v England match around the town might have reaped its rewards. I think that's fair. I also think it is reasonable for fans to expect a lot (more?) from the FAW in respect of marketing since Ford's appointment was largely based on his expertise, networks and experience in this area. I think the FAW's performance has been excellent since he came in - the free scarves, the quarterly publication, the trailers, use of Welsh, the Barry Horns, the manager roadshows, the way the Speed memorial game was pitched and many other aspects - but it requires an attention to detail too. There are still a few things I see that miss the mark such as no FAW presence in the city centre on match days (perhaps a ticket booth?); or the peripheral infrastructure to match days such as toilets and other facilities, and publicity at transport hubs (I saw your tweet scoop76 re the toilets at Llanelli station)

Really. why do they charge at all, get kids (especially girls down there). I have 3 girls so may well take them but object to the fact that the money taken on the gate will just about cover the Councillors accommodation, meals and free bar

I swear some people on here will only be happy when all Wales international matches are free. The Wales Under 19s Euro finals matches were free, but I think charging something for full internationals is fair enough. The cash they raise from this match will probably just about cover the cost of staging the game. £5 / £2 is reasonable.

Lets guess the attendance. 900 Well they had just over 1,000 for each of the Wales Under 19 games in the summer, and I think they were record crowds for Wales internationals played in Wales. I reckon 950 to 1,000.

Just looking at prices for England v Belarus today. £5 adults, £2.50 concessions. Although England also have family tickets (2 adults, 2 children) for £10. Maybe that's something the FAW could look at doing.

It is pathetic that the only way we get to see our national team on terrestrial tv is when we play England, even though we pay the same amount on our tv licence fee as everybody else. Colonialism at its best.
