Whatever happens the fact remains that we desperately, desperately need some decent youngsters to come through and challenge in the very near future, we can't have another situatin like the 00's and early 10's again. What do you class as a youngster? Because at the moment you could argue this is the time we’ve had the most promising youngsters coming through ever. Either now or Obviously 2008 with Bale, Ramsey, Allen, Wayne, MacDonald, Ribiero, Gunter, Evans at the time they all excited us but rite now we have Johnson, Ampadu, Neco, Colwill, some say Eli king looks a big prospect, owen beck, there’s loads of players 22-24 in the first team. I have no intention of keeping my passport in my draw for Euro 24 and 28. The squad will of course miss Bale , Allen , Ramsey if they retire after World Cup but there’s still plenty there for euro qualifying

I know I've said this a few times on this forum, and I still stand by it. Ward should never have replaced him as number 1, and I still find the decision a bit baffling. Like OTJ said during the S4C Ukraine coverage commentary, he can't recall a single bad mistake in over 100 caps. Ward score an own goal not long ago against the Czechs. There definitely have been mistakes. I remember the one against Azerbaijan in the last Euros campaign, where he palmed a soft shot out to their player to score the equalizer, although it didn't cost us in the end. Lots have said his footwork isn't great and he's made some of the screamers he's conceded in the past look better than they were. But you're absolutely right, the absolute howlers have been few and far between - in fact, I can only think of that one example. And as you say, Ward has already had a worse howler than that. Also watched the programme on S4C in the build-up to Ukraine where they went though the goals during the campaign, and remember thinking Ward could have done better on a couple of them. On balance, Hennessey has performed better for us than Ward in my view. Yeah, his head went against RoI, the same as with a few others. Can’t recall if he was at fault for the goal but I distinctly remember his poor distribution putting the defence in danger in the latter stages of the game. Some wilful ignorance by OTJ there I feel!

I think we are lucky to have a 1 and 2 who we feel confident in. Not many national teams can say that. I don't really mind who starts at the moment & I trust both of them

Mooney was a keeper right. Sure I've heard him talk about us focusing on goalkeeping talent for the future at some point.

Davies is definitely not the answer and I don't think he ever will be. If a kid emerges that would be fantastic as it could mean 10-15 years of having someone decent to call on between the sticks and the kind of continuity that can help breed success.

I think Kompany will want his own man in who's more comfortable playing it out of the back. Probably. Bellers is probably extoling his virtues though (Adam Phillips kind of gave the game away with a pic of pre-season with Bellers in it), not to mention that Vincent will also know how good he has always been against him for Belgium.

It’s a prerequisite and a priority. He’s not going to undermine his whole system just because he has a half-decent shot-stopper. Goalkeeping in good posession-based teams is not about stopping shots.

He's fine at keeping possession at the back. Not amazing, but for Championship level he's fine It certainly is a luxury for Burnley's situation - they are in a very poor financial state. They will be selling off any genuine Premier League quality players just to make even, and will be signing replacements on the cheap. I just don't think GK is a position they really have to worry about immediately given all the other things they need to address, and getting in a ball playing GK seems like a luxury transfer given they already have a decent, and experienced one, ready to go and happy to play

If Kompany's taking a pragmatic approach, then I fully agree with you. But if he's looking to instil a footballing 'philosophy' at all costs, then the type of goalkeeper will be seen as critical. At a higher level, Joe Hart wasn't seen as a problem for Man City by any stretch, but Guardiola immediately realised he couldn't build the team he wanted with Hart in goal, and he has been proven right. But as I said, it depends if Kompany takes the pragmatic or philosophical approach. Pragmatism is probably the safest bet without strong financial support!

They won’t be spending money on a keeper who is better with his feet than his hands to play championship football.

Hennessey's expected to go to Forest as their number two, replacing Ethan Horvath who's joining Luton on loan.
Burnley are looking to sign Arijanet Muric as their first choice, Man. City youth goalkeeper who had a bit of a howler on loan at Forest a few seasons ago.
In an ideal world Hennessey would have been Burnley's number one but to be honest with you I don't think that was an option. Burnley are completely rebuilding their side and their style of football this season, and all managers we've seen who've done this see the goalkeeper as an essential part of it.

If he’s been told he’s not wanted at Burnley then not so bad. On paper at least, with Burnley’s first choice leaving it looks like a pathetic move. Really disappointing to see the guy who is going to be first choice at the first World Cup since 58 elect for warming a bench instead of playing every week and match sharp. Couldn’t he just have dropped a level and played regularly for one season before going back to being a back up? I guess people will argue he’s not lacked sharpness previously, which is fairer comment in Hennessey’s case than Wards imo

He is a goalkeeper with Premier League experience and maybe going to West Brom to play regular football since Pope has come into Newcastle . Would this be a good option whilst a young goalkeeper is being developed as he is only 31 ?
