Shows they still have faith in him which is good to see. Five-year deal indicates they are very happy with his efforts so far.
If Wayne could establish himself there it would be fantastic.

states on faw website that he once scored for wales, just checked up, on wikipedia " He once scored for the Under-19 side with a 40-yard free kick against Turkey.[20]" unusual for a keeper to score!

Jonothan Bond did the same for the U17's aswell. Maybe we should stick both of them upfront.

Well, they won at least. I hope he wasn't at fault for Sunderlands goals and keeps his place in the team now. We really could do with a keeper playing regularly and confidently in the top flight.

David Edwards has missed the last couple of games due to a thigh injury.
Apparently Hanneman had a bad game last week at Blackpool and was dropped.

I think he was at fault for the first goal but I can't recall why.

At least one of our keepers is going to get regular games. I think Myhill is kicking himself for leaving Hull.

At least one of our keepers is going to get regular games. I think Myhill is kicking himself for leaving Hull. He didnt have a choice in a lot of ways. He was forced out because they were on the verge of going bust, he was a high earner and they would get a decent fee. It wouldnt have been a surprise to see them drop him if he had stayed in order to force him out during the transfer window. The mistake he made is in choosing to go to West Brom where his competition was the club captain. At least with Wolves you know you are always in with a shout of game as McCarthy likes changing his keeper when things are going badly. Most other managers are usually fiercely loyal to their keepers.

Hennessey was poor today for Wolves by all accounts
Obviously its hard for any keeper in front of that defence, but apparently he was caught flapping and out of position for at least one of the goals. Really frustrated with this as you would have thought being dropped would have focused his mind and got him working on his weaknesses. He has been given a chance and has conceded 5 in 2.
Given the hype around him when he first made his name on loan with Stockport you would expect him to be in Joe Harts position at this point in his career, but he doesnt seem to be pushing on at all. Going backwards in fact. Hope he sees sense and drops down to the championship behind a tidy defence. Although I think he could do worse if he got the chance to sit on the bench at a top 4 club, as the top quality coaching he would get might be better for his long term development.

To be fair to him, the defence was bloody awful.

He couldn't really do that much about the first, the second he probably should have saved it but at the same time the defence had plenty of chance to sort the danger out. Hopefully he is just working the match rust off.

Has just kept a clean sheet for Wolves- their first of the season! Disappointingly he still doesnt seem to be getting many plaudits from the Wolves fans after today. Seems Birmingham didnt really threaten. Lets hope a clean sheet and a reasonably quiet afternoon has bucked his confidence up a bit. On the plus side, Edwards was pretty damn good today by all accounts, I think he should have been a contender in that "unsung heroes" list. If Wolves go down I expect Edwards to still be a prem player next season. Edit: Just seen the stats Birmingham shots on target: 0 Birmingham shots off target: 3 If I was a Birmingham fan Id be demanding my money back, no shots on target is a disgrace!

RD- You only need to look at what a lot of Spurs supporters were saying about Bale only a year or so back to see that fan's opinions should usually be taken with a pinch of salt (including most of ours of course!)

Fair point Ff, but what I would say to that is that usually a quick canvassing of fans opinion will tell you exactly what is going on in the short term, but is no indicator of long term value. I mean you cant argue that Bale was poor at Spurs to start with as he was, the fans werent lying when they said he wasnt very good. He had to improve a lot, which he himself even admits. So Ive no doubt any praise/criticism of Edwards and Hennessey is justifiable. I watched the 'highlights' of Wolves game and was impressed with Edwards, a very good box to box midfielder. Still making those runs into the area which is his main value to the wales team imo. And disappointingly there wasnt much to see at all of Hennessey, was good to see him being vocal with his defence when Brum had their best chance to score. He is criticised for not being commanding enough so lets hope that he carries on improving in this area.

Ironically, I think having Hahnemann in the squad with Hennessey might help his commanding the defence. He's an experienced international goalkeeper that has played at Reading and Wolves, teams that both needed a commanding goalkeeper to control their fairly dodgy defences.

Another clean sheet last night! Although to be fair, Liverpool were almost laughably awful so he didn't have much to do.... But I still thought he played pretty well- he looked fairly confident and commanding. Anyone else watch it?

I watched it (and won £30 on a Wolves win) and I noticed two things, his height and skill in coming out to claim loose balls saved Wolves a lot of bother and his goal kicks were huge.
Good stuff. Hennessey is our No1 and needs to play every week.

It was like the Birmingham match, although he kept a clean sheet he didnt really have a lot to do, He did well to save that shot from Meireles to be fair and that was about it. He was a little rooted to the spot when Liverpool scored that goal that was correctly disallowed.
I would like to see him coming for crosses, its ridiculous for a keeper of his height to be on his goal line all the time.

Some good news at last from the Wolves camp, some Wolves fans are split as to whether it was Hennessey or Edwards who was MOTM against Chelsea. Hennessey made a couple of superb saves and according to one fan Edwards and Foley were so good they nullified a Chelsea midfield 3, including Lampard.
Hope this form continues, until the England game at least!

The 'at last' bit seems a bit unfair RD. Hennessey has only been back in the team for 7 games. They've won 4 of them and he's already kept 3 clean sheets. Which is 3 more than Wolves had managed this season before he came in. The impression I get from reading reports is that he seems more confident now, more commanding in coming for loose balls and a lot more vocal. Which are all traits you could associate with Hanehman, so perhaps watching from the sidelines has done Wayne the world of good? He's always been an excellent shot stopper but he does seem to have added to his game. It's great to hear.
As for Edwards, most reports seem to have made him MOTM. And this against a Chelsea midfield including Lampard and Essien. Just he other day I read a description of him as 'over-rated', which bemused me a bit, cos I don't know too many people who've been singing his praises. I'm not saying he's an Ienesta or a Sneijder or anything like that. I just think his workrate, energy, attitude and desire to make runs into the box are all very valuable to us.

To be fair Hennessey hadnt done anything Hahnemann couldnt have done prior to the Chelsea game. I could have kept goal against Birmingham and kept a clean sheet as they didnt even have a shot on target! And it seems against Liverpool he made a good save from Meireles and that was it. Basically I just dont get what people see in him so I am constantly looking for him to do something amazing to prove he is worth the hype. He was supposed to be the best young british keeper around but he has been well and truly upstaged by Joe Hart on that score. The thing is he has got the height but I dont think he uses it, we should be seeing him come for crosses like a Van Der Sar or a Schmeichel, who were both tall keepers. If he was doing that regularly the bigger clubs would be sitting up and taking notice. As it is he just seems like a decent shot stopper, but the football league is full of those. At least he is being more commanding of his area. Thats a start. Ive got a lot of time for Edwards, hes not anything special but hes one of those players who has carved out a career at the highest level simply through effort and application. A good example to young players imo. Hes made the absolute most of what hes got.

At just 24, Wayne already has nearly 40 caps for his country, which seems remarkable for a goalkeeper. I think it's possible that Wayne could still be #1 choice for the national side in 15 years time.
Anyone like a guess at how many caps they think Wayne might get? Barring injury and the development of another top class Welsh goalkeeper in the next decade, anyone think he might get as high as 150 caps? Or am I mental?
