wow dropped down to league 2. that's so strange It's a shame because he had Premier League quality, but probably fair enough when he's only played 3 full seasons worth of games over a 10 year career.

Shocked he dropped to league 2 but.. that's only option he had that'd the way it is. We all have red eyes for Johnny but his injuries I suppose have been the problem

Can't rely on Jonny to be fit unfortunately

I think he's been fully fit for most of the last 2-3 seasons. Pretty sure he was available for 70-80% of Cardiff's game, just never selected and only got a few 10-15min cameos from what I remember. Also at Charlton, he was fit more often than not, but was usually on the bench. So unfortunately, whilst it's nicer to think that it's down to injuries, he just hasn't been deemed good enough. Can't understand why - might be injuries earlier in his career that have taken its toll or disrupted his development to the extent where he hasn't been able to kick on. I think the main issue is he's never been able to establish a clear role for himself. He's a lovely player to watch, but where do you play him? He's not productive enough to play as a 10 or as a wide forward, and isn't solid enough to play deeper in midfield. He's a great dribbler and does well at relieving pressure, injecting tempo, and carrying the ball up the pitch, but those qualities don't fit neatly into a single position. If he could have added goals or that killer pass, it would have completely transformed his career trajectory, but he's never been able to do that consistently.

If he could have added goals or that killer pass, it would have completely transformed his career trajectory, but he's never been able to do that consistently. Think you've summed it up perfectly there. He's probably best as a number 10 in a team that plays long balls, as he wins a high number of free kicks, but that's a very niche role/team combination. Maybe being in League Two he will actually be able to score/create more goals, so maybe he'll just end up being a top player at that level. I still think he could end up being a very good player in League One as well, I just think the Championship is beyond him now I wonder what this means for his Wales place? With Brennan Johnson now being a Championship regular, and Tyler Roberts being a Premier League regular, it's hard to see him getting minutes for us bar injuries

Surely he will lose his Wales place in the squad now?

Surely he will lose his Wales place in the squad now? Given that he wasn't utilised at all during the Euros possibly had an influence on his decision to drop down the leagues in that he probably wasn't really going to get a look-in with Wales anyway?

27, 31 caps and playing in League Two, it just seems weird, I'd love there to be a fairytale twist to his career, I think we all would.

Williams seems to have become something of a cheerleader kind of figure, a hype man, picked because he's good for the morale of the squad and he's seen all the highs that Wales have scaled in recent years.

Victim of modern football in some ways, we live in a sporting world that's obsessed with stats thanks to the yanks, especially goals and assists. He's been class for us over the years, still a good option for us now even if its off the bench.

Some bad luck with injuries too and also his rather passive personality, he seems happy to coast which is not a bad thing at all and I still think he has something to offer Wales, it's just a shame when you think what could have been.

www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/23177043.swindon-town-rely-much-jonny-williams-influence-scott-lindsey/Good article about Jonny as shared by dragonsoccer. One thing that stood out to me and sums up Jonny brilliantly. You can question his ability and the level he plays at but I didn't half think at that World Cup we could've done with that at times (not to say he would have done that for us either). Shame about injuries I think he could've been one hell of a player for us. I still think he can give something for Wales but appreciate others have different opinions which is fair enough.
