Maidstone, Sutton and Bromley all have 3G pitches in the National League.
As stated above, that is the highest level that they are permitted.

The Board, or what's left of it, have lost control of the club's finances and so after more resignations we await news of the mess we are now in, here's a link to the fanzine blogsite for further info;

The Park View Martyrs group has called a meeting for Sunday and will raise the funds needed but they want changes especially the Chairman and former Treasure who have to go for the club to go forward.

This comes at a time when their historical rivals, Barry, are flying high in the Welsh Prem. Its certainly not nice to see any team struggle, but I still harbour personal amazement why Merthyr, Colwyn Bay etc are playing in the English lower divisions at all.
I hope they pull through though, for the sake of their loyal fans.

I remember when Bangor City played Merthyr away in the Welsh cup years ago.
Hope they get out of the current crisis they find themselves in.

Chesham United 13-1 Merthyr Town.
Merthyr fielded a youth side, credit to those who featured.

I appreciate the Swans have got a home match, so you are excused!

I hope they pull through though, for the sake of their loyal fans. Is it not obvious? Because Merthyr has historically been an English system side, moving to the Welsh system would result in complete loss of interest among the supporters; smaller crowds, lower income and therefore effectively a dead club. Sorry to say, but when the peak of the domestic game contains University sides and teams named after airline manufacturers and other such nonsense, the prospect of promotion through the divisions and FA cup/trophy runs (however difficult or unlikely) is infinitely more appealing than the Welsh system. Even in the unlikely event they managed to win it, the best you're going to get 99% of the time is a couple of games in Europe against minnow clubs from other small nations. If Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham were forced to join as well then the argument might carry a bit more weight, but we all know how that ended up last time it was tried. This opinion will not be popular on here, but I genuinely believe that Welsh football would benefit from the Welsh League being merged with the English league system - perhaps somewhere around Southern League level where Merthyr currently play.

If you start paying what you can afford you will slip even further down the english pyramid Your attitude is why I will shed no tears if you go to the wall. Also, as things stand you would have to join the welsh league div 3 at best. On a final note what is the only thing Merthyr are famous for. The games v Atalanta

Also, as things stand you would have to join the welsh league div 3 at best. On a final note what is the only thing Merthyr are famous for. The games v Atalanta Well, what a pleasant individual you appear to be. How would travelling to Bala, Bangor, etc, be any better than travelling to (for example) Hereford, Chesham, etc? The distances are broadly similar but the South of England has far better travel networks. Without checking, I'd guess that you can't even get to some of the places in the Welsh league by train. My "attitude", as you put it, is purely fact-based. If all Welsh clubs were in the Welsh League it would at least be appealing for 4 or 5 weekends of the year, but Cardiff playing at home to Haverfordwest on a Tuesday night is not going to be popular amongst their fans is it? It would be the beginning of the end for club football in Wales. It's nothing against the small sides competing in the Welsh League, but the geography of Wales being what it is makes a domestic, competitive football system almost impossible. You've got 5 or 6 population hotspots and then villages everywhere else. In 100 years when the population has increased perhaps it can be revisited, but until then I am all for putting logic ahead of naive emotion. PS. For the record I support Newport but sympathise with Merthyr's wish to play in the English system. Mark my words, if Merthyr do go to the wall and aren't allowed back into the English system, I would guess there will not be a competitive team in Merthyr anymore. But the likes of you appear to think that's better for Wales.

Have you ever travelled to Kings Lynn? I have and its a bloody long way
facts are simple
Expenditure is more than income, club can't pay bills, club set up just giving page, club survive, struggle for a few months and repeat the process
The trips to North Wales are a bind but at the moment you would have trips to Barry, Cardiiff, Newtown, TNS ich are all pretty close to Merthyr
There are othe clubs playing in Merthyr and I believe Penydarren FC are having a great season, I also fondly remember playing at Hoover Sports
Merthyr are not big enough to progress through the english pyramid system and have been in the english lower reaches for years yet they turn their nose up at the WPL
solution: play where you like but pay what you can afford and let's see what that level is

I've also been to Holyhead which takes about the same amount of time. The key difference is that Kings Lynn might get 1,000 fans through the gate if they're doing reasonably well, Holyhead might get about 200 at best (who knows? I certainly don't). Another reason why playing in the English southern league is more attractive than playing in the Welsh Premier. Paying what you can afford as a club has absolutely no bearing on whether Merthyr should play in the English or Welsh systems, so I don't really understand how you can suggest moving into the Welsh league with lower crowds and less interest would be of any help to them. How many clubs playing in Wales have screwed up financially over the years? Cwmbran, Abergavenny, Barry, Rhyl, Bangor, Llanelli - the list probably goes on. A club is nothing without its fans, and if its fans don't want to play in the Welsh League why waste your breath telling them how great an experience travelling to Airbus away is going to be? As a Newport fan who was forced to watch his side play home games in Gloucestershire for years which set us back about a decade, your statements above offend me. You think that Merthyr's fans will just go and support Pennydarren instead? LOL.

But the likes of you appear to think that's better for Wales. Merthyr have already gone bust twice playing in the English system and look to be going that way again, its obviously unsustainable for them to play in the English system so why not give the Welsh system a go? Merthyr could become a real force in the WPL and could conceivably get European football which will increase their profits massively. Who knows, in a few years they could become professional, which is surely better than the state they're in at the moment? The WPL is getting better year on year and Merthyr could be a part of that, rather than scrapping around in the 7th tier of English football and hoping to get past the qualification rounds of the FA Cup

That's my point as well. You can't force the smaller teams in but just let the bigger ones do as they please. And even if you forced the bigger ones in, they would soon become small clubs - fans of the "big 4" would just stop going in my opinion. The FAW have already tried to force the small fry into the Welsh system in the past and were ruled against in Court. I can only speak for my club (Newport) but if we end up getting into financially difficulty and reforming in the Welsh League our crowds would be circa 250 - there just isn't any appetite for it in the community. Maybe that would change over a few generations, but I couldn't see it. As for your comment - "You could wave goodbye to the national team if everyone had your attitude". How on Earth do you arrive at that conclusion? What has the Welsh League ever contributed towards the success of our national side? The English system has been the only reason that our national side has ever been even semi-competitive on occasions.

Many countries are envious of the home nations' status in FIFA, if we didn't have our own league it would strengthen their arguments that Wales should be merged with England in international football as they'd point at our biggest clubs playing in England and the fact we wouldn't have our own league I wouldn't be so sure that Newport's crowds would plummet, is playing Forest Green and Lincoln that more attractive than playing Barry and Carmarthen? Newport would challenge for the league and regularly get European football, that would really help the clubs finances and pull in crowds. I don't think Newport should be forced to play in the WPL but there are advantages to the Welsh system, if a Welsh club falls below the 6th tier of English football it should be taken into consideration in my opinion

Lol, good one. Newport would not challenge for the title in the Welsh League at all, because I don't think we would even reform if the English league was no longer an option. I certainly wouldn't support it after what we were put through in the 90's and I doubt you'd find many who would. I don't dispute that there are advantages to the Welsh system for the clubs who compete in it. I can appreciate that it is hugely attractive for small towns in mid-Wales to compete for prize money of a few hundred thousand pounds and have a few games in Europe - potentially even against some decent sides if the draw falls nicely. But that will never be attractive to Newport, Wrexham, Swansea or Cardiff. Getting relegated to the Conference is worth more money to Newport than winning the WPL would be due to the parachute payments. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, because I will never change my mind. I'd probably stomach it long term if all Welsh clubs were forced in, but not under any other circumstances.
