I'm sure there will be plenty of them out in full voice tonight to support England! Bunch of sycophants!

Don't give 2 hoots about them... as long as England get knocked out... sooner the better as the coverage for them and its coming home site is really grating my nerves

Whinging about bias toward Wales earlier in the tournament, but constant coverage even when other teams are playing is absolutely fine

Waleshire Online another absoloute Dic Sion Dafydd rag. Published “ All Welsh people should now be supporting England in Euro 2020” piece. Utter jokers of a ‘national’ press.

Wales Online have once again posted some shite asking who would we rather see win the final between England or Italy.
Sad the amount of 'Welsh' people who are saying England, with some people even saying 'Obviously wouldn't in rugby.....'. What is it with this country and such strange sporting mentalities?
I'm going to start supporting England in rugby, fuck it.

But during the Euros (or rather, while Wales were still in them), I'd go on their Facebook page from time to time to see what stories were on their general page (not the football/sport-specific one) about the team. The answer? Basically nothing, apart from a story immediately following each game. If it was Wales rugby, you can bet your bottom dollar that there'd be a load of articles about every element of the team, like you get during the Six Nations or the World Cup.

How do you know they are Welsh? The number of hate filled English people calling themselves Dai and Taffy etc on the Wales On-line message boards is something else. They'd be delighted that you aren't supporting the Welsh rugby team too.

This one made me laugh, one of the people who are listed as supporting England says that he ‘doesn’t follow football and probably won’t be watching the final’ www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/what-welsh-people-told-asked-21002438

How can anyone call themselves a "fan" if they change their tune at the drop of a hat to support a country they have no connection to?

More to the point, I really can't get over that a supposed Welsh National Newspaper is English owned. If Wales has it's own media and media was devolved this wouldn't be an issue. Maybe try The National instead.

I love Wales so much. You literally won’t find a guy who knows more Welsh trivia , Welsh history or who watches more Welsh sport than me. ...... but these fucking Stockholm syndrome morons are why I can’t live there anymore. Millions of people around the world fighting for independence and then we have Wales (Cymru) the only dying country on the planet.

I've always been doubtful in the success of Independence, but now I can see it will never happen with so many England/ British sympathisers in the country. These people are desperate to beat England every single bloody time in a minority sporting event, yet will be against Independence and support England, our main oppressors in one of the worlds biggest sporting events. We're fucked. Cymry am ddiwrnod is well and truly true.

100%. Rugby is irrelevant in Europe outside of 5 places anyway. I love rugby union but or fans are like Newcastle United fans when it comes to delusion. We are not a big team in eyes of Southern Hemisphere and how people can go with the “as long as we beat the English” but then cheer the lions is bewildering. It’s not our national sport and it’s not even lose regional rugby is a joke and 90% of the fans watching the six nations only do it because it’s an excuse to drink in the afternoon you literally can’t have an intelligent discussion about anything involving rugby because people don’t know. They think cheering Wales on 4 times a year for 320 minutes in total is patriotism. Pathetic P.s I’d take losing to England if it means advancing in a football group stage just like 2016 and I’d take losing to them in rugby if it means winning the 6 nations!

I find it reasonably easy to support the lions, well, it’s been very hard in the past when the selection was usually mostly English. But the last 10 years or so has seen Wales make up the bulk of the squad, including that memorable 3rd test against Australia where O’Driscoll was dropped in favour of Davies and Garland shut the critics up. The main reason though is that the SH sides are fêted by world rugby in the same way the top sides are by UEFA and fifa. Some of the refereeing Wales have had to put up with when on a tour in the Southern Hemisphere is scandalous, it’s like a completely different rule book so every chance a Welsh player gets to put one on that lot I’ll support.

The only reason WalesOnline do these ridiculous articles is because gets Welsh football fans spitting feathers, generates discussion and as a result increased clicks and traffic. That's all they care about, that's why I cant bare it. It truly is the worst news site in the UK by far.

Would it be okay to change the name of this thread to the Dic Siôn Dafydd thread instead? Seeing as there is actually a well-known Welsh equivalent term why not use it? Avoids appropriating "uncle Tom" given the racial connotations as well
Re: the pessimism for independence. I have to say as someone in their 20s the question of independence certainly comes up a lot among my peers. A lot of my older relatives go in for the whole support the "British teams" thing. They are 2 generations removed from the war generation which saw a boom in British/UK identity. The majority of my friends don't identify as British, and even the ones who aren't really "pro-Wales" to the same extent as I am have all recently become sick of the pro-English London-centric media, and they're all aware of the corruption of the British state. It's not weird to talk about independence anymore, there really has been a shift. Once devolution of media happens (which surprisingly all parties seem to be on board with), this shift will only solidify - just look at Scotland
Bit of a side note, I just don't think there needs to be pessism re: independence, we're closer than ever. Still a long way to go, but closer than ever for sure. I read the other day that 30% of under 16s in Sir Benfro can speak Welsh now - positive things are happening
