I fancy Burnley & Sheff Utd to end the season about 10-15 points ahead of third. They are on another level right now.

Goal number three of the season for Connor, doing Cardiff a big favour in the process

Since coming back from the World Cup Connor has played easily his best football for Burnley and the goal he scored on Saturday against Huddersfield was the culmination of a 25 pass move. He also played a great pass which helped set up a goal for Swansea loanee Michael Obafemi who has now scored twice in 3 quite brief sustitute appearances for the Clarets.

Love the man. Turbo charged passion. Already have earmarked this evening's game. I just hope that he is not rested.

Is it possible that we play Connor on the right hand side of midfield with Neco behind him, opening up the chance for them to interchange during a game, I wouldn't mind us trying that out.

Off the bench to score the winning goal sending Burnley into the quarter finals

Back heeled from about 3 yards in the 90th minute. Fleetwood keeper had a stormer. Their goalkeeping coach is Owain Fon Williams who seems to be doing a great job with Jay Lynch. OFW seems to be as good a goalkeeping coach as he is an artist.

A really interesting (if long and complex) read on Burnley's tactical approach this season and Connor's role within it.
It's absolutely crazy to me how they do it - they're interchanging about half a dozen different formations constantly in every game. I have no idea how all the players manage to stay on the same wavelength with so much change, but it clearly works! They're extremely fluid, but there's also a clear system and solidity (which is somehow not a contradiction in terms in this case). The coaching must be phenomenal and Bellamy must have a part to play in that - future Wales manager hopefully!
It means that Connor Roberts constantly switches between centre back, full back, centre mid, and right wing positions. It's nuts! I watched a big chunk of their most recent game, and he was brilliant at it, spending most of his time in central midfield. He's having a brilliant season, but I'm not sure it will translate over to us where he will be asked to play a much more bog-standard full back / wing back role so we'll likely see the same type of performance from him. As much as I think Page has done a more than decent job for us overall, I can't see him getting close to this type of tactical genius (a really high bar to be fair). Some of the things the thread mentions, with inverted full backs where they both tuck in constantly, could actually work really well for us with Neco on the other side. But it's probably too complex to set up in that way with the limited amount of time available for international sides + potentially Page's tactical limitations.

It's really really difficult to implement at international level where you get less than a handful of training sessions before a game
His good form will still help us tho!

It would be nice if Kompany, a rookie manager still, committed to this project for a number of years and really built something fascinating there. Too many managers enjoy this sort of success early on, then try and climb the ladder too fast. I hope he's there for at least 5 seasons and lays foundations for this formula to carry on for years and in doing so creating a legacy for himself that sees him leave with the best wishes of the fans, football needs more of things like that, especially at so called "lesser" clubs.

I'm hearing that Connor actually played most of the game at CM against Hull the other day, rather than it being a tactical twerk where he moves inside occasionally
This is interesting, maybe Page thinks he does provide us with cover in CM. Maybe if Morrell was to get an injury Page is thinking we change it to something like this?
Ward Mepham-Lockyer-Rodon Sorba-Connor-Ampadu-Neco Ramsey Brennan-Moore

He's got all the attributes to be a defensive midfielder but pretty useful going forward too. I think it's well worth bearing in mind, especially when RND is back.

As I posted upthread, Burnley interchange between numerous formations play by play, and none more so than their full backs. Watching that game, Connor did spend most of his time in midfield, but only because that's where he was generally expected to play when on the ball. Without the ball, he was expected to go back into a fullback role. Considering we will be without the ball for about 70% of the time on Saturday, I think that's an important contextual point!

A troll? I’ve not missed a home match in 20 years. Only person trolling is Page. Taking off Moore, Wilson & James in a pre-planned sub when we were in the game doing well when 1700 of us had made tremendous effort to get to Split out of season.

Your self-sacrifice is greatly appreciated.(That's intended as sarcastic irony btw. You went on a jolly to Split. Nothing wrong with that but don't try to suggest that the team or manager owed one - entitlement is a narccistic personality trait and most unbecoming. As it happens, the team earned a creditable draw, so there really is nothing to complain about).

I hope I'm not alone in thinking that Connor did alright last night, a couple of rather sloppy touches and ocassionaly reluctant to bomb forward but all in all I thought he was a 6/7 out of 10. We moved the ball about well last night, I think the more this group plays together the better they'll get and the good thing is they're all young enough to grow together, even Kieffer, who came into the game late.

I know he plays a very different role for the two sides, but I still can't get into my head how he plays so poorly for us whilst he's simultaneously one of the best fullbacks in the Championship

Proper strikers goal that, drifted into the box and finished it like a poacher
I think it's a case of him knowing his role really well in that Burnley system, but being a bit unsure how to play differently with us. You almost think we need to look at what Burnley are doing and how they use him in order for us to get the best out of him, because next season he's going to be a Premier League full back and should be one of the first names on the team sheet for us
