It's a bit premature to judge Roberts' ability to challenge Gunter for the RWB position - not least because Roberts' defensive capabilities haven't been put to the test that much to date. But offensively he's been impressive so far, showing a lot of intelligent movement and putting in some telling deliveries. So, given a run, at Championship level at least, he could make a case for inclusion in the squad. Mind you, he's got Richards as well as Gunter ahead of him in the pecking order, so it may be a while yet before he's playing for the seniors. But definitely one to keep an eye on. That's a fair post. I like Connor going forward too. I don't think his credentials in that department are a problem. But my assumption is he simply needs 30 or so games at Champ/PL level to get himself up to scratch as a defender. The one positive for Welsh football if the Swans go down (which I hope they don't), is that Connor, Rodon and Dan James should get chances to break through. For me, Jazz is our best RWB at this exact moment. I think he's ahead of Gunter now. But Chris is a machine and is never injured, whereas Jazz has problems staying fit and therefore problems staying in top form also.

Roberts starts again for Swansea live on BBC at 20.05 Booked late in the first half. Don't think he was booked (it was Clucus) but Roberts had a relatively quiet match, with most of the traffic going down the other wing. Dan James had a nice cameo 30 minutes with a decent goal.

I thought he looked good going forward again, but not tested defensively.

Roberts challenging Gunter, is that a joke? Roberts is 3/4th choice right back for a side bottom of the premier league, had his loan spell and Middlesboro cut short and his defending has been questioned against teams such as Notts County. Hopefully one day he might challenge but at the moment he 5 is miles away Surely if he can break into the Swansea team at RWB (which seems a decent chance at the moment), and plays well then he will be challenging Gunter for certain in a back 5? He must surely now be in Carlos Carvalhal thoughts for at least sub appearance after last night, was very good, as was Dan James.

Worth also noting that Roberts played at left back last night. Good to have that versatility in him to play on either side.

Was at game last night and had an amazing vantage point to see everything that both Dan James and Connor Roberts were doing on and off the ball and spent most the game keeping an eye on what they were doing in particular. 1st half Connor was taking up very good wide positions in lots of space, but the ball was obviously going to Narsingh most of the time, but he got his foot in when called upon in defense, pulled opposition defenders around when in attack, made one bad pass, that was it. 2nd half, was more involved, was very good at helping out in attack, reminded me an awful lot of Ben Davies (which is good obviously lol), getting in clear positions on goal although wasn't always passed to. The general feeling of myself and the people sat by me was that Roberts is better than Naughton and should be a strong consideration for Prem squad place, at the very least as a substitute. Enter Dan James, very impressed. He was constantly making himself available for pass, first thought was attack, was difficult to get ball off, seemed to be quick thinking and has a decent shot. All of us were very pleased to see him in squad and when he came on we were all saying that we hoped he would show Carlos Carvalhal and everyone on tv what he could do and the general feeling was that he did indeed. Seemed to worry defenders every time he got ball, took goal very well. Again, everyone I talked to thought that he deserves the chance to be in Prem squad at least off bench (probably be Routledge again next game though lol). In all, I watch a lot of the u23s at Swansea, there are a few lads knocking on door both for Swans and Wales, the Swans Prem league 2 squad is where it is for good reason, they really are very good players coming through. These 2 in particular should be considered for going to China imo. How can you suggest he goes to China after 1 game as a sub against a team being battered. Roberts would be closer but still needs to do a little more, remember he didn't cut it at middlesborough. Both promising players lets not get carried away just yet This. Roberts will need to be playing regular football at a solid level before even being considered to challenge Gunter and Richards

Swansea have very little cover at full back, and Rangel is out injured at the moment. Carroll was tried at wing-back, and was at fault for the Notts County goal in the first game. So, given that Roberts has done well on both flanks so far I'd be disappointed if he doesn't make the bench for the Premier League games coming up. Carvalhal doesn't have a good reputation for blooding youngsters from his time at Wednesday mind...

I’m tucked up in bed as I feel like death so it’s bet365’s stream for me. Free to watch with a funded account. i.e. £0.01.

Thought Roberts was one of Swansea's better players today. Definitely deserves a run of games in the prem on the back of that showing.

Thought Roberts was ok. He won't be playing in the league this season so another replay is good for his development. Not done enough for a call up yet but could become the main challenger to Gunter as Richards and Matthews continue to struggle at club level.

Ben Davies 'a role model' for Swans defender Connor Roberts www.bbc.com/sport/football/43459865Swansea City defender Connor Roberts says he is hoping to learn from his role model and Wales team mate Ben Davies during the China Cup. Roberts, 22, is set to earn his first senior cap after being included in Ryan Giggs' 26-man squad for the tournament. He said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Davies, who played 73 games for Swansea before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2014. "I'll chat with him and hopefully he can pass on a few words of wisdom." Roberts was recalled to the Swansea squad from his loan spell at Middlesbrough in January and made his debut in the FA Cup third round against Wolves. He said his Wales call-up had "topped it off" and he "can't wait to get out there and give a good impression". He said Davies is a "massive role model" for him, in that they are both from Neath and that he has watched him rise through the ranks. "It's just massive to see a boy that's come up like I have, doing so well and hopefully I can follow him in a few of his footsteps." Davies, who has clocked up 150 Premier League appearances, has established himself as one of Spurs' key defenders. The 24-year-old said he was looking forward to working under Giggs. "A new system has been put in place under Ryan and I can't wait to get going... I'm sure there are going to be some new ideas. "I met him at a Wales week in London around St David's Day and it was nice to have a chat about the set-up and who would be involved. "The mentality we've got to have is to try and win it... that's what we are going in to do." Wales face hosts China on Thursday, 22 March and either Uruguay or the Czech Republic on Monday, 26 March as Giggs' full-time management career begins.

When you watch Roberts play for Swansea, don’t you find it amazing how he couldn’t get a game for Boro under Monk? 🤨

Connor Roberts starting for the Swans today. alarch has suggested that Gunter shouldn't be an automatic starter, it's a brave thing to say but he has a point. Gunts would still be my first choice RB at the moment but I think his future could be at centre-back for us.

Yes he did well, looked to attack. Considering yesterday was only his second premier league appearance - okay he also played v Spurs in the FA Cup quarter final - and his first start, and against a top six side, he didn't look out of place. I really hope he gets given the RB slot next season. Naughton is good in patches but struggles going forward. Roberts is certainly no worse. If we stay up, we will need to bring in a few players and RB is something we need to upgrade on. Using Connor would save us money to use elsewhere in the team.

Very attack minded and has a decent cross / dead ball skills, as well. Did well, but also did lose the ball quite cheaply a few times (almost always gaining it back again almost instantly). I felt the whole team dynamic is really good and positive. It would be a true travesty if the Swans don't stay up

Sounded like he struggled on the radio commentary and final ball was poor. Substituted as a result.
Hopefully get more games next season but still a long way behind Gunter for me.

He was subbed because Swansea changed their system and a wing back needed to be sacrificed. Thought he was decent against a top side. Yes Gunter still has the experience at present and Connor needs more games. I wonder if Roberts might be a more natural wing back though? Gunter seems more of an out and out full back in terms of assets. Though he knows how to play the wing back role.

Met Connor last week in Blancos, Port Talbot where he was presenting the Welsh Schoolboys u18s squad with their caps. Nice lad.

No offence but at this moment you would have to have just the one leg to still be a long way behind Gunter!!
The guy doesn't offer anything anymore apart from passing the ball backwards.
I would rather now have an up and coming Premier League youngster in the squad than a player who has had his day and could be playing League One football next season.
