He's good enough to feature in this game and it's a joke if he doesn't. He's our second biggest goal threat by a mile. I'd start him. Hold your horses! He's only ever started 2 games in his life... AGAINST PLYMOUTH!!! Agreed, would love to see him off the bench - and excite us like Jonny and George Williams did, but to start him would be ridiculous. The apostle hype machine has gone into overdrive again! I've just had to have a browse of some Liverpool forums to catch up on what Woodburn has been up to because it sounds on here at times like he is a 17 year old Lionel Messi based on a few sub appearance. They don't really seem to be saying that much at all about him apart from that he shows a lot of potential and they are pleased to be seeing players like him break through to the first team. Yet here we are expecting him to start and score goals against the top team in the group! Personally, I just hope any player gets on the pitch for the right reasons and not because we are afraid of other countries poaching them or because of excessive hype. However seeing that we have called up Wilson does make me question the motives behind Coleman's selections.

Gentleman seriously who do you think is more likely to score a goal him or vokes,Bradshaw? Also I love Allen he's so underrated in the world of football but let's not get deluded because he's scored a few for stoke. Ramsey's so low on confidence I don't except him to bang in a goal. He probably couldn't wait to get away and join up with Wales. He will be up for this game big time.

Coleman did not contact Klopp about taking him on international duty, surprised me: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/03/20/jurgen-klopp-should-have-consulted-ben-woodburns-wales-call/“Actually, I was surprised about this,” said Klopp. “I don’t know exactly how it’s normal here. This should not be a criticism. But usually when you call up a player, a 17-year-old player, I thought it would be possible to call me. I’m not sure if he knows him well. He didn’t play in the team so far for Coleman I think. Because of the age, it would be better?” “If he stopped learning now, that would make no sense at 17,” said Klopp. “I’m not in doubt about this. We didn’t hide him. We used him all the time. He’s a fixed part of training. He can deal with nomination for Wales 100 per cent. It’s a little bit like my situation. As long as you give me the time, as long as we give him the time, everything will be good. “He has to learn, he has to develop, he has to improve, all of this. That’s why I said there are now two managers responsible for him. Until now, it was only my job.” _____________________ Coleman response: “I make my own mind up about a player,” Coleman said. “I understand when you pick young players then clubs go: ‘Oh, calm down’, but I make my own mind up. “No matter how old he is, if he is good enough and I think he has something to offer us and can help us in this challenge then I am going to pick him. That’s no disrespect to Jurgen or anybody else who say maybe he’s not. “He belongs to them but I’ve got a job to do for Wales and I have to pick my strongest squad. At the minute from what I have seen he belongs in our strongest 23. That’s why he is there.”

A nothing story in my opinion. I've seen a couple of articles in the press where they've spun this to make out that Klopp's unhappy with Woodburn getting the call. It is a bit surprising that he didn't ring Klopp however, but I'm not wholly sure on how it goes down with players getting the call.

It is a bit surprising that he didn't ring Klopp however, but I'm not wholly sure on how it goes down with players getting the call. The thing is, I genuinely thought Wood burn deserved a squad place on merit. Now, with Huws, Jonny Williams and Lawrence all out, Woodburn is our second choice sub mid-field/attack (probably behind Edwards and Voakes). One more injury to our mid-field in the squad, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start the match!

Hysterical ;=) Thing is, it is no longer about the English pouching him from us - I have a feeling that if its 0-0 after 70 minutes we will absolutely need him to come on, probably together with Wilson! People don't seem to remember, but for the Belgium match in 2013, we had Bells, Churchy, HRK and Vokes all playing - despite what Cookie said, there was really no need to have Harry Wilson in that squad. This situation is a lot different. We are missing our three impact attacking mid-field players (Jonny Williams, Huws and Lawrence) and we genuinely only have two decent forwards in the squad - Hal and Vokes. No disrespect to Shaun MacDonald and Bradshaw. I totally wouldn't be surprised if both Ben and Harry come on, if circumstances demand it.

I sincerely hope that Southgate continues to have that attitude, because that's precisely why the likes of Woodburn and Roberts will end up representing us rather than England. England would be in pole position if they had the right systems in place, and, more importantly, the correct mindset - not this grandiose "they should come to us" baloney.

Adam Lallana reported to be out for 4 to 6 weeks, injured while on england duty. With Sturridge out for another 2 weeks as well and Firmino also a doubt, I really hope Ben will get a fair amount of play time in April. God knows we could do with some magic in Belgrade ;-) Talk Sport and the Echo are reporting that Ben Woodburn is likely to start tomorrow, ahead of Coutinho who just came back from Brazil ;-) UPDATE: They must have been reading the Cardiff Echo ... Ben only on the bench, together with Origi. Sadly, No Harry Wilson in today's squad...

No Mane or Lallana for Liverpool tomorrow so there is a great chance of a start or minutes off the bench for Ben

Getting his first premier league start today. Pob lwc Ben!! Allen in the same game, look forward to it Klopp must really rate the lad, as he has totally re-arranged the entire team to accommodate for Ben, as a number 10, just off Origi ;-) He is only 4 weeks older than when Michael Owen made his first start for the reds. I notice that he now allows James Millner to take the corners ;-) Tried to do a Cruyff turn in the penalty box, and should have been awarded a pen... Had a decent first 45 minutes, but the entire team was quite poor. Was subbed at half time. SADLY ALLEN OFF WITH HAMSTRING PULL

Great to see his progress at a premier league club, Klopp must really like him to be putting so much trust in him! Great for Wales!

Ben has been nominated for the European Golden Boy award, an award previously won by Aguero, Messi and Rooney.
To win he will have to fight off Mbappe of Monaco and Marcus Rashford.
Good luck Ben

A lot of people are saying the Woodburn and Real Madrid thing is bullshit on social media, but I reckon there could be some truth to it. How do the Spanish press (who broke the story) even know about Woodburn? He isn't a first choice player at Liverpool, he has no senior caps for Wales (not even the u21's) and barely anyone knows about him in the UK let alone abroad. This is why I reckon they could actually be looking at him (through Bale), beacuse from what I have seen of him, he looks to have more potential in him than Bale had at 17.

I first read that on 1 April and thought it was an April Fools thing. Who knows, there might be truth to it - I can see it happening.

I wonder if Mick McCarthy fancies his chances and just might be picking up the phone to Klopp ... We'll have him off you, as long as he takes a wage cut ;-)

Yeah it is incredible how elite level strikers can't stay onside so in that sense to see that level of awareness from a 17 year old bodes really well for the levels of intelligence he will have when he is older.
That being said, the defending is not a good advert for that standard- from Man City as well. Centre backs all over the place. Maybe Pep has been coaching their under 23s as well as the senior team? Woodburn has taken advantage of it well but I remain even more unconvinced about the value in calling up players whose football has mainly been played at that level.

The English have conspired again. Sturridge and Lallana on the bench and no place for their Welsh cousin ;-( I shall read a book then ;-)
