Starman back to the starting lineup v Cardiff How did he do? I only had 45 minutes to spare, but I opted for the first half of the Bristol Rovers game. That was a very decent first half. Savage was very decent and Collins was a little Anonymous.
reading Ben's stats. He played 60' and had an excellent passing accurecy rate (85%) - sounds like he was heavily involved in their victory?

@redwallnews1 asked how he did today and responses weren't positive with some comments neutral and some negative.
Sofascore stats website allows direct comparison to Daniel Johnson and Robbie Brady as the three players who played in similar positions for Preston today. Ben has best passing accuracy, has greater number of dribble attempts (50% success rate), was involved in by far most ground duals (winning 57% - better percentage than Johnson, worse than Brady) and put in more tackles than the other two.
He was dribbled past more than other two, he was less productive in attacking sense than the other two, lost possession most but arguably only because he was more involved.
Obviously stats mean a great deal or nothing at all depending on how they're used, and I can't say why twitter was more negative to his performance today.

Preston fans to less than impressed with him.

Contract extended there for another year. Good to have some stability.

Released by Preston, what a waste of a career! Amazing that when he first played for us despite being born in England,Adrian Durham had a meltdown and dedicated an entire programme to why the dual nationality rule in international football should be changed ha ha. *I realise that most of his, and everyone else in Talksport, meltdowns are fake to generate people phoning in and commenting on social media, but still.

Released by Preston, what a waste of a career! Pretty harsh that. Troubled with injuries and doesn't have the physicality and pace to perform at the highest level. But there's still time for him to carve out a career at Championship level.

Incredible really, gone from being the 'next big Welsh star' to non-league in 3 or 4 years.
Actually that Austria goal was in 2017.......so not quite such a quick downfall.
Will probably retire and end up running a bar in a few years.
A harsh lesson that there's no real point getting too excited about young players.

Yeah they're in League 2 Still only 24 so a little time to turn things around Also shows the importance of going somewhere that will actually play you, he had 3 loans in 3 seasons where he played less than 30 games - total.

Sorry, yep, Salford are in League 2.
I think this is the last chance saloon for him.

So important playing as many senior 90 minutes as possible between ages 17 to 21 at a decent level. Injuries and mismanaged loans hampered him.

On this day in 2017, Woodburn scored on his debut against Austria and a star man was born. I doubt anyone thought that seven years he would be plying his trade at Salford City

His defensive stats last season were surprisingly excellent (best in league for his position for tackles won and interceptions, well above average for 9 out of 11 defensive metrics).
Shame his in possession stats were so poor. But with that work ethic if he can get his mojo back offensively then he could yet make a case for a Cymru recall.

The only way I can see him coming back into the fold for internationals is if he tries to become more of a 6 or a centre mid. He probably has the technical ability and work rate to do it, probably just needs a place to call home where he can build a bit of confidence
Given our lack of CM options I think that's his best route back

That Austria goal is one of my best football memories ever. I'd rate it as our best goal until Bale's double against Austria...
And our best goal since Allen's against Austria. Wait a minute, what is it about then that makes all our goals absolute screamers?
I would love Ben to make it back up the leagues and back into contention. It might be a long ol' journey, but I would love it.

Thanks for the link. The best paragraph in that article reads: "It is so far so good on that front as the 24-year-old has started four games and come off the bench on two occasions so far this season, equalling his minutes played for the entirety of last season!" #Starman
