What position was he playing for Preston? Difficult to tell from 10 minutes highlights of one 45 minute cameo but Seemed to be playing a free role, just off the strikers, coming deep at times almost like the playmaker. |

Interesting that he's been playing as an 8 in a midfield 3. I think that's a much better position for him as he lacks a bit of pace and cutting edge further forward. Will be really interesting to see how he does this season

Scored his first goal for PNE last night. Considering their struggles in front of goal so far this season that should stand him in good stead. Not sure what position he's been playing for them so far. Flashscore seems to show him playing as an 8 last night, but not sure how reliable that is.

Ben Woodburn has 4 league starts for Preston this season. He's 23 and he's started 36 career league starts in total, he needs to play regularly, learn them game, improve and then if he's good enough he can play for Wales.

Give it another few years and people on here will still be saying 'he's young', 'he's got time to come good'.
Said years ago he was finished, you just know with some players. Don't know why. Lack of ambition? Work ethic? Either way, it's quite sad how his career has panned out since being hailed as a massive prospect (new Gerrard etc) as a youngster.

Played the full 90 as Preston won in the cup, as did Andrew Hughes. BBC had Woodburn down as playing up front in a 5-3-2

Ben's current deal is only 12 months and he's not grabbed priority for a starting spot yet, although he's certainly been a positive signing. I'd be tempted to let him know we're thinking very positively about him but let him focus on club career for next few months.
Oli Cooper appears to be right-footed 10 so Ben won't be competing for same spot as him as and when, priority for Oli is also nailing down starting sport for club side, but Oli having been with the camp more recently I think it's currently a more natural step to include him.
