Two gone one to go. Hope Liverpool have a shit season Wilson & Woodburn are hardly going to get past Salah & Mane, are they? Ben did alright in the first 45 minutes v Blackburn. Has a great knack of peeling off and making space just inside the box. He was found three times, but the balls were not really any good so Ben's shots were from too wide a position. Still playing in centre of midfield / occasionally on right. Commentators saying he is nailed on for the America tour squad.
Blackburn look very decent and should do well in the championship. Sadly, no sign of Jack Vale ;-(

I've been searching his name after all these games on twitter and Liverpool fans are... underwhelmed, to say the least. There are many of them already writing him off - at 18!

One thing that the commentators have eluded to, is that Kloopy has been training them these last two weeks between twice to sometimes three times a day! Which explains why all the players appear really exhausted...

Three times a day? What is he, a Manager or "Ze Fuhrer"? Kloopy seems to be going loopy.

Watched the second half against dortmund tonight in which woodburn played. He played in cm again and was very assured on the ball, played one or two pinpoint 40 yard passes and broke up play on occasion too. He's getting a bit of a hammering again on twitter though with the scouse fans accusing him of playing it too safe and not showing anything in these preseason games.

Is he just another Welshman wasting his time under Klot at Anfield? Once the season commences and the returnees from WC are fit, I wonder if he's anywhere near the starting X1 then?

Totally understand his not starting in the first team with the players in his position. Saying that: Trent Alexander-Arnold - forced to play him as he had no right back after Clyne's injury Solanke - They paid for him so more inclined to play him (and less competition) What has annoyed me with Klopp regarding Woodburn is the fact that his development appears to have been stunted by the fact that he was continually on the bench for the first team but not being played. I remember one of the last games of the season where Klopp had champions league qualification sown up and were waiting to play the final. They ended the game with Ben on the bench and one substitution left. So Woodburn is clearly well thought of at the club but being on the bench continually is preventing him playing any u23 football (regardless of what anyone feels about the standard of that, he is still missing out on game time)

So Woodburn is clearly well thought of at the club but being on the bench continually is preventing him playing any u23 football (regardless of what anyone feels about the standard of that, he is still missing out on game time) Klopp is 'Mr Right Now', there's no doubting that, he buys/uses players that can help him achieve his immediate goals. He brought a proven & trusted keeper in Karius to replace the on/off Mignolet, now after only a season as number 1 Karius' horror show has resulted in Klopp going shopping for Alisson. He will give youth its day, but only if he's certain it helps him in the here and now or, as you've alluded to, his hand is forced. There's nothing wrong with this emotionally detached and ruthless approach really, it will ensure he's successful as he'll always be putting results first. Fergie used the same tactic to great effect, although whilst he was obviously able to see a bigger picture at the same time, Klopp it seems cannot. Take the Ward situation...Klopp was given a gift last season with Huddersfield offering to take him on a season long loan where, by all accounts, Ward would be their number 1 in the EPL for 17-18. An amazing opportunity to have your reserve keeper experience pressure and be tested at the highest level at no risk to yourself whatsoever! Worst case scenario, if Ward had bombed he'd just move him on this summer, if he'd been a success he could have stepped up into Karius' boots or, if he really wanted Alisson, move Ward on for a fee much greater than the reported £12m. What did he actually do? He knew he wouldn't play Ward at all barring an injury catastrophe to Mignolet & Karius, but he didn't want to spend a small fee on another 3rd choice keeper if Ward moved on loan, so he kept him on the bench for a year, he puts the club before the player. Woodburn's similar, Klopp trusts him enough to fill a hole if needed so keeps him on the bench, but doesn't trust him enough to start him or give him purposeful game time. He's trapped in a catch-22 situation, too good to let go of but not enough experience to yet be trusted by Klopp, but whilst he's on the bench he'll never get that experience to be able to prove himself. Barring an injury or two Woodburn will only see action during 18-19 in the cups or in the red of Wales, let's hope he shines for us! Wilson was lucky, his injury meant he was further away from the 1st team than ever, far enough away for Klopp to let him go out on loan where, thankfully, he proved himself. If he has one hell of a season for Derby Klopp will probably pull him in for 19-20, potentially becoming a Liverpool regular then during 20-21. To get Liverpool back to the top of the game, Klopp is a brilliant managerial appointment, for youth development he's a terrible one. But whilst Liverpool keep fighting at the top of the EPL and appearing in major finals, I don't think his bosses will give two shinies about a couple of Welsh kids kicking their heels.

You've summarised the issues really well and I think you're perfectly correct. Woodburn may get his time - eventually. On the plus side, if he does shine for us, he may get other lucrative offers heading his way. It would be a crying shame if a talent like Woodburn is wasted away on the sidelines during a crucial time in his career development.

The latest on Woodburn are strong rumours of a season long loan to Norwich. If this happens he could potentially have the same impact that Wilson had at Hull.

Needs to play - doesn’t matter about clubs ambition as Klopp will want him for the future...the boy is outstanding ... he’ll know that !

Not exactly clear, but looks like Ben is off to Bolton? Only just survived the drop last season, by the skin of their teeth. Ben may well be getting some game time, if true ;-)

Oh for fu- Only kidding, he'll get plenty of first team opportunities there seeing as I'm fairly sure his direct rival will be Craig Noone

Ben on after 48 minutes v United. A few nice touches and always seems to make space for himself in the box - great positioning awareness. A brilliant assist for a sublime overhead goal from that man Shaqiri ;-)
He might only be 18, but our kid has definitely bulked up, grown up and toughened up as well. Should hold his own in the Championship, I am sure.

Agreed, he has bulked up a lot! Still seems a bit short from the level required to compete for a Liverpool spot, but more than good enough for the Championship. A loan this season would be really good for him, I just hope he doesn't have another full season on the periphery of the first team playing hardly any games

Just having a quick read of the Villa forum and they're loving the prospect of getting him in, as well they should. Think it would be a great move for him and hopefully get some first team competitive game time in a team (hopefully) challenging for promotion.

All the chat online is that young Ben is joining Sheff Utd for the season, filling the Dai Brooks void. Exciting news and it'll be great to see another Welsh talent light up the Championship.
On that note, Sky are broadcasting all midweek Championship games this season so there'll be plenty of opportunities to watch our players in action. Roll on Friday night!

Thought we (SUFC) had missed out on this lad, but the news that he's now on his way is brilliant.
Apparently it was on Klopp's advice that he has chosen us over Villa. We are getting a great reputation for developing youngsters, both our own and those on loan.
Looking at videos of him he seems to have real intent every time he gets the ball, should be fun to watch next season.
