Great news. The problem with all these hyped up youngsters at prem clubs is that often they are never trusted to get on the pitch, end up going out on loan and then sold down the divisions. Emyr Huws and Tom Lawrence being recent examples.
That this lad is now being brought on at such a young age augurs very well indeed and suggests that in this particular case he is the real deal.

A word of caution today in that Liverpool were only playing Sunderland.

www.thisisanfield.com/2016/11/liverpool-2-0-sunderland-5-talking-points/ Ben Woodburn replaced Georginio Wijnaldum in injury time, becoming the second youngest Liverpool player to make an appearance in the Premier League. Having turned 17 on October 15th, he was still some way behind Jack Robinson who appeared for the Reds aged 16 and 250 days against Hull City in May 2010. Woodburn has been impressing for the club’s youth and under 23 sides so far this season, and made several appearances alongside some first team regulars in the early pre-season friendlies. The Chester born teenager qualifies for both the England and Wales national teams, but has so far represented Wales at youth level. There’s likely to be a squabble between the two nations as the forward’s talent becomes more apparent. Could he be in line for more action in the Cup against Leeds in midweek?

Great to see him come on but he didn't touch the ball so no need to get carried away.
We only need to look at where Liverpool's youngest ever player is now.

We only need to look at where Liverpool's youngest ever player is now. Jack Robinson at QPR on loan at Huddersfield - on a very long term injury. Not sure what the point is unless you think Ben could be out for 18 months soon?

Some miseries on here, Jesus let the lad enjoy his moment, hopefully he'll get some more game time v Leeds tomorrow night, let him develop and see what the future brings for him... as for his international future, if and hopefully it's a big if England come calling and he switches there's nothing we can do about it, but for now he's ours, he's a great talent with a bright future

The point is that there is no guarantee Woodburn will become a good player just because he's played for Liverpool at a young age. Thus people should chillax and see what happens over time.

Coutinho out till mid jan and Mane at Africa cup of nations in January. Door opens slightly for some opportunities for Ben and maybe Harry Wilson. If Klopp wants to test them out first then Leeds in the cup tomorrow may be an option

I'm sure he feels great, but let's be objective; He was brought on with 2 minutes to go in a match Liverpool already won. This type of raving is only merited if he scored a goal on his debut.

But the fact is he came on for a side who are competing at the top of the Premier League, not a sub-standard Championship side - Klopp is a good manager who rates players - true Lallana, Sturridge, Ings are all out but to bring him on means there must be something decent about him - even Harry Wilson hasn't been in first team squad yet (as far as i know)

Tom Lawrence did get on the pitch for MUFC by the way ! I believe that was in a dead rubber at the end of the season when Giggs was in charge and playing all the youth available as some kind of charm offensive to the OT top brass. Whilst Woodburn didn't get a touch I really doubt someone like Klopp would put him on even for one minute if he didn't think he had some form of future at a high standard. This wasn't an end of season fixture to go through the motions. I am also usually the first to keep realities in check regarding over-hyped youth, but I think we can read very positive things into this. More concerning is Wilson. Really not sure about him.

BBC were already stirring it up on Monday!
"Cheshire-born Woodburn has pledged his future to Wales, and recently starred as they narrowly missed out in the U19 Euro 2017 qualifiers, but he still remains eligible to play for England"
Why is the last bit even relevant when you say at the beginning of the sentence that he's pledged his commitment to us!! This isn't a random country who he's pledged to, it's one of the other members of the UK
I hope he's strongly Welsh enough to resist the clamourings of the English press to steal him.

Well done, Ben! there will be plenty of water that will flow through the Severn til the young lad gets capped, but it is important to note the confidence Klopp showed in him tonight. It was no regular 65th minute substitution. Not by a long shot. The score was still 0-0 and Liverpool looked on the ropes. They were really struggling and looked very vulnerable. James Milner and Jordan Henderson were on the bench, but instead of going for their experience, Klopp sent Ben on - the rest is history!
That for me speaks volumes of Ben's progress thus far.
Just keep it up, Ben ;-)

People talk about capping players just for the sake of keeping them is throwing away caps, but in this case he could be another Michael Owen. At the very least he'll be playing championship level football (if he remains injury free) which will be good enough for us.

He was interviewed recently an said he want to emulate Ramsey and Bale. I hope they both tweet to congratulate him, that would really improve our chances of retaining him.

I imagine Gareth will be heavily sedated post surgery this evening. Hopefully we will be hearing good news from him within a week or so!

Just seen the goal. So confident to take it like that. Most players as young as him wouldn't have hit it like that.
He definitely has the potential to be our next big player. Whether he reaches that we don't know but like I've said before in this thread, he's bossing U23 games and has now scored in only 30mins-ish of football.

I have only got really excited by 2 players over the last 2 decades - Bale and Ramsey. Why - because at a very early age they demonstrated a high skill level, and total confidence in their ability no matter their environment. Every game they would do something - be it a goal, create a chance, a great bit of skill.
I feel the same way about what I have seen of Ben. He will definitely be a good premiership players if he stays injury free but will he be a consistently great player?
Unfortunately England are not stupid. Ben's agent will be telling him how much more marketable he will be as an England international. I assume it will all come down to how Welsh his family feel. Does anyone know the details if his background/circumstances. Shame we didn't cap him instead of Wilson!
Two things we have going for us - we have made a major impact on a tournament and we have 2 world class players. These can hopefully be used as a big draw. It would be a bonus if we could turnaround our world cup campaign and entice him with the opportunity of appearing in such a tournament Lets hope!.
