If Roberts starts to make a name for himself (like Lawrence is) then he will have and justifiably so. I mean time is a constantly evolving thing right? Just because Roberts is crap now doesn’t mean he won’t be in the future and will actually deserve a call up on merit. Same with Lawrence, he’s probably not performed for Wales but probably hasn’t at club level either. As welshram says Lawrence is in the form of his life. If you don’t call a bloke up when he’s in the form of his life when do you call him up? I’m calling it though- Lawrence maintains his form until March but we still see Roberts called up even when he’ll have been dropped by Bielsa by then. And there will be another ten pages added to this thread where everyone tries to figure out what sort of evidence Roberts has got on Page 😂 ‘Time is a constantly evolving thing’ ‘Just because Roberts is crap now it doesn’t mean he won’t be in the future’ These are the exact reasons we shouldn’t be slagging one of our players off and making him the scapegoat all the time. At least 75% of your recent posts have been posting negative comments about Roberts. You can say positive things about Lawrence without making Roberts the bad guy. hindsight is a beautiful thing I At present he doesn't add much to the team (never mind the future). I can see him being a useful player causing some trouble but thats as far as it goes. LLawrence on the other hand is doing well NOW, we desperately need goals so gits a no brainer to bring him in. Hypothetically 0-0 or 1-0 down to austria are we going to be shouting get roberts on or lawrence? who's your match winner there?

Don’t contribute fuel to the fire and then run off saying that I’m the one bringing it up all the time. And for the record I’ve said up thread that it’s not actually Robert’s fault - it’s Page that invites criticism by inexplicably picking him when he isn’t adding anything. People tend to see I’ve posted, make up a conclusion and then work back from there to justify it.

Have a little count how many times you’ve mentioned Roberts in a Tom Lawrence thread.

And if you go back and look I hadn’t posted on this thread for a good few posts until your interjection which was nothing if not goady. So you’re claiming not to want to get into a “tit for tat argument” whilst at the same time making needless goady comments that further stir the pot. Make up your mind 😛

Flavour of the month at it again

Flavour of the month at it again Is that him who won the penalty? The way it’s playing out it’s going to look pretty mental if he isn’t one of the first names on the next squad list. He’s played himself into form and imo if you are playing head and shoulders above the rest of the player base it’s a bad look if you still don’t get called up. Good luck to him, hope he keeps it up!

Linked with a move this month to Brighton and Fulham. Hmm…is Fulham a good move? He’d probably do really well with their free scoring ways….but the problem with Fulham is they are a classic yo-yo club and probably come straight back down.

Obviously agree, but if I’m correct I think he already knows he will be sold because of the financial situation so he’s not staying at Derby whatever happens, it’s just a case of the best club he can get.

I agree but a yo-yo club would be much better than the current situation at Derby. I'd be more concerned that he'd probably only be considered a rotational option at Fulham. Better to be playing week in week out at a mid table Championship club than getting a handful of appearances here and there for a PL relegation battler.

If they are his two options, Brighton looks a much better one to me. I don't think there's much difference between what both team have in that area, so if it's going to be equally difficult to get into either side, he may as well test himself in the premier league

Looks like it’s not been picked up that he had a hand in both Derby goals as they came back from 2-0 down with three minutes of normal time left to draw 2-2.
He put two free kicks in which lead to both goals, one directly and one with a touch off another player before it was put in the net. More evidence for a call up at the very least imo. Who have we got who can put in a decent dead ball? Bale’s not been as effective/consistent in recent years and we know all about James’s corners….

Definitely deserving of a call up for showing the consistent form he has this season

He's still been up and down slightly, but this has definitely been his most consistent season. He has 8 goals and 4 assists in 25 games and, in the games I've seen, he's been good more often than not. He's performing at a level you would expect from a top championship forward, possibly just below the likes of Wilson. So he definitely deserves a call-up, particularly with Brooks out. I doubt he'll get gametime, as for me he's just behind Wilson and Johnson, and I think those two will be the first off the bench, with three or all of Bale, James, Moore and Ramsey starting. But he deserves the callup.

It’s an opportunity to make a statement that good form is rewarded, otherwise there is a danger of it looking like a closed shop. Matondo too should be in the conversation. Players quite clearly in the form of their lives (at a time when others aren’t) need to be given a chance.

Should be right behind Harry and (possibly) Dan on the team sheet.

Rubin Colwill has dropped down to Cardiff's u23s recently, so it would be entirely wrong to include him in this squad. So there's definitely an opening, might be one of lawrence or matondo though. People will completely disagree, but I would still have joniesta in there because he offers something different. So i'm not sure who else would drop out if we include both lawrence and matondo, unless we rebalance the squad of course and take fewer defenders / centre mids

It was less than a year ago he played a pivotal role against the Czechs. He brings something different so I’d be reluctant to discard him completely. But I see it that Williams is a midfield pick whereas Matondo and Lawrence are forwards. Without wanting to bring up the minutiae of the argument again on current form surely Matondo and Lawrence are better picks than Colwill and Roberts so that would be the two slots to accommodate them sorted.

Obviously I’ve no idea if the thought process of Page and his team but I think Colwill and Roberts are considered more central players whereas Matondo and Lawrence are more wide players. Unfortunately for both of them we are very strong in wide forward players. Realistically we can only pick 4, maybe 5 at a push, out of Wilson, Johnson, Bale, James, Brooks, Matondo, Lawrence and Hedges. Yes, maybe some of them could play more centrally and we could squeeze a few of them in by replacing some of the central players or taking less defenders but the trouble with that is that we’re back into the square pegs in round holes thing again.

But if Lawrence, the clubs' captain and one of their stand out players manages to keep Derby up this season, it will probably go down as one of the best achievements I've seen from a Welsh player. Yeah, it looks increasingly daft that people were trying to pour cold water on him a few weeks back. Make no mistake, to overcome not one but TWO points deductions whilst not having full autonomy over transfers due to their very obvious money issues by rights they should have sunk like a stone this season. I think this does raise an issue that I’ve noticed with the championship that it’s very poor quality at the bottom, the fact a newly installed promoted side like Peterborough can’t put Derby to bed is shocking, but Derby can only beat what’s in front of them and at the moment they are 4 points off and looking we’ll set to stay up And that is, in large part, down to Lawrence’s contribution in assists and goals. So I agree with you, if they stay up this will be one hell of an achievement by any Welsh and player in any era. History has shown that -12 points and more is usually a death sentence. It’s incredible that they even have a chance of getting out of it it at this stage. You have to take your hat off to the guy for the way he’s risen to the challenge and produced the form of his life when he’s absolutely had to.

I wonder if he's improved so much this season because he such an accomplished former striker as his manager. I know that it isn't a given that a player that was once a great striker will become a great manager, but it's quite coincidental that Lawrence has hit the form of his life while playing under one.
