Gunter has been at Forest for a while now, at least 2 seasons as for the 3 lions couldn't care a toss who plays or manages them.

A Spurs supporting friend asked me what I made of Gunter a couple of years ago when they sold him to Forest. I said I thought he'd be back in the EPL with a club like Everton, Fulham or Villa within about 4-5 years and I stand by that.

I thought he was excellent in both games. And in both positions he played. Good move by Speed to bring on Matthews and shift Gunter to CB. I was expecting Nyatanga.
Adam Matthews looks like someone who has the makings of an excellent player too. He really looks like a proper footballer, but he just needs more club games under his belt.

He was probably my MOTM against the swiss, they looked more scared of him than Bale. Either that or Bales legs were too quick to kick!
Another solid performance against the Bulgarians, I've wanted to see him at CB for us for a while. Matthews does well, does this put JC further down the pecking order?

When ricketts is back and on form, I'd make him 1st choice RB, which further complicates the equation.
I still think that ultimately our best back line will also have J Collins in it, unless Matthews/Blake/Gunter start playing regular in the EPL.

Gunter's recent performances have certainly been a big improvement on some pretty dreadful ones previously. But I'm still not convinced he's top drawer material. I'd prefer to see Mathews given a run at full back, with Gunter as back up. People forget that it was Gunter's poor positional play that played Borisov on for the chance near the end where he should have scored. Had James Collins made that mistake he would, rightly, have been slated - so a bit of balance is called for.
For me Gunter is a decent squad member, but if we are to progress we need an improvement in the right back area.

Yes collins would hve been slated, but he is an experienced CB, Gunter to my knowledge has rarely if ever played at CB before and is a pure attacking full back by trade, so any criticism of his positional sense at CB doesnt hold weight with me. Yes he could have been goal side of him when marking but as you say a bit of balance is called for, and gunts did a good job completly out of his comfort zone and position.

I always thought at Cardiff that he had the makings of a winger, as he could be exposed at the back. Hopefully more games at Celtic will give him confidence, and he can solidify his place in the squad.

Steve Cotterill is taking over at Forest.
Pity I don't have a betting account as I was tipped off he was spotted returning club car to garage first thing this morning.
God help Forest.

I haven't got a problem with Gunter still playing in the championship in terms of his international career. He's proved in the last few games he can step it up. Forest are a massive club at that level too. People forget, when we reached the world cup QFs in 1958, the likes of Mel Charles and Ivor Allchurch were amongst our most impressive performers. They were both at 2nd division Swansea Town at the time.

oh i dont think its affected his performances at all,its better to have him playing at forest than sitting in the stands looking on at spurs
i just think he's good enough to play top tier football,he'd have to choose his club carefully as it wont do him any good to sit on the bench of course

Yeah, Forest shall need god the way they're going, ironically enough, Cotterill goes, Portsmouth win today! But Gunter shall be alright, each occasion I see Forest televised, if not live [when I've seen them play the Swans] he's always been 1 of there best players, but despite this, if Forest are struggling around Christmas, perhaps he should look away from the Championship and look to the Premier League, IMHO he's got enough in him to do it.

Played on the right wing today only taking up defensive duties when Forest had corners.
Some good play in the first half when Forest were on top. Great interplay with team mates set him up on goal with keeper to beat. Decided to square the ball instead without committing the keeper. Involved in another good build.up play but couldn't't quite create anything.
In the second half his volley was hit cleanly but flew over.
Had a good game as Forest's chances mainly came from his side of the pitch.
May be an option for Speed. Just needs more confidence in front of goal.

Never seen him as a winger at all, and surprised Cotterill does. I think Bale is probably safe in that position for Wales.

Looks like premier teams are after Gunter. Fulham, Blackburn and Norwich are reportedly interested.
Better than fighting relegation with Forest.

I'd say Fulham would be the best bet out of those three - would be a good move for him in January.
