Summerville’s had a fairly poor end to the season and as Talyfan mentioned, Leeds wouldn’t be negotiating from a position of strength. I think they paid about £35m for Rutter, which was a very poor piece of business if you ask me. Despite being one of the most skillful players around, he’s a rubbish finisher, rarely plays a killer ball, and doesn’t do anywhere enough to justify that fee. They’ll do well to recoup half of what they spent on him imo. Rodon’s with them on loan, so they obviously won’t get anything for him! If anything I think I've been modest with Summerville's price tag. Watford were is a weak position when they sold Pedro, who's record was inferior to Summerville's this season. Southampton also desperately needed to offload players last summer yet got a £53 million initial fee for Lavia. With Chelsea and Liverpool being linked with Summerville it wouldn't surprise me if he left for more than £50 million. You may be right. I imagine we’ll find out soon enough!

I think Eli King has won promotion with Raith Rovers He was on loan at Ross County. So no. But he did help them avoid relegation. I should read more carefully instead of just looking at the headlines 😊

How can Leeds concede so many chances when they have two DM in front of their CBs? The two DM's were in no man's land, and Archie was playing Armstrong onside. Ampadu alerted Gruev to the presence of Armstrong, but he was slow to react. I'm not excusing Ampadu for his part in what looked like a comedy of errors, but when Smallbone was heading towards the goal he was the only player who could challenge him.

It's rumoured that Leeds will need to offload around £100m worth of talent to comply with FFP, so a move for Rodon may be unlikely and they may need to sell Ampadu. That said, fortunately for them they have a lot of saleable assets. I can see Archie Gray going for £20-30m; they could probably get around £20-25m for Summerville, £15-20m for Gnonto, and £10-15m for Rutter. That could just about be enough if they do well They paid £35m for Rutter, so that would be a £20-25m loss on their balance sheet. James would be a loss too. Gray's value could rise considerably, so maybe it's not the best time to sell him? They would make a profit on Summerville, Gnonto, Ampadu and the goalkeeper though. There are also a few players out on loan like Harrison at Everton, but I'm not sure about their contract situations.

Let’s be honest, neither Ampadu nor Rodon covered themselves in glory in that moment and there were a couple of other similar moments which could have led to goals too, which is a shame. But I completely agree, Gray made the biggest cockup of the lot and yet no criticism was made. It stunk of favouritism for England’s next big prospect

I'm not sure what Rodon did wrong, but Ampadu got caught in no man's land, as did one of the DMs. Armstrong would have onside even if Gray has been in line.

And Kamara who was supposed to be tracking Smallbone was the second furthest man forward and had no chance of getting back. Why press 5 players against Leicester's 4 defenders when they weren't chasing the game? The Leeds wide forwards were already being nullified by that point, so you could look at the managers tactics as well.

Rodon was marking his man, it's Gruev next to him who was out of position. It's textbook how not to do things, and he should have come across once it became obvious that a 2-on-1 overload was developing to his left.

It was a horrible defensive mistake, but Joe was not to blame. It was a massive game with lot's of pressure and rich rewards for the victors, and the combination of a few errors by individual players turned it into a big mistake, but saying that the whole team wasn't on their game for most of the match. James is the only Leeds player who even looked like scoring, so on balance they didn't deserve to win anyway.

Ampadu appointed permanent 1st team captain at Leeds, with Pascal Struijk dropping down to vice-captain. Big year ahead after the disappointment of last season.

Tenuous Welsh link with Ampadu providing the through ball, but this is a great goal by Georginio Rutter.

oh shit, it's the one injury we can't cope with. He's fundamental to Bellamy's whole approach. People won't like this, but we'll probably need to go with Sheehan with Allen as cover. They're the only options that have a similar profile where they can come short to collect the ball under pressure off the keeper and centre backs - Jordan James doesn't really offer that, neither do our other midfielders apart from some of the youngsters who aren't ready (Crew, King, Savage).

We are just absolutely cursed aren't we?
I don't know of any other countries that suffer with consistent long term injuries like our players do? It's pretty relentless.
We were lightweight in this area anyway, and now with Ampadu now out, it's the worst Welsh midfield for many a year.

A really worrying miss for us if this proves to be an injury with a long recovery period. Best wishes to Ethan.

Dai, the chances that managers, clubs and supporters have a vendetta against Welsh players AND that we are genetically predisposed to suffering more long terms injuries than players from other nations are very slim indeed! Or do you think the two things are linked?! Are clubs coaches overworking Welsh players in order to get them injured? Are their teammates kicking the Welsh players during training? Maybe they're given supplements under false pretences by the physios to weaken their muscles, bones and ligaments?

Not good ;-(
My understanding is that Dylan Levitt is only just back from injury, but Matt Smith has been getting regular minutes up at St Johnstone. Always liked the kid and has always turned up for Wales.
Also, possibly, Tom Lawrence can do a decent job as a number 8 and not only on the wing or a 10.

Nothing to do with clubs this time. I was merely saying that we always seem to either suffer from a glut of injuries or one or two major / long term injuries/illnesses. We seem to be hit hard quite regularly. Our star players have always suffered - Ramsey, Bale, Brooks, Allen, Gabbidon, Delaney. Past 10-15 years, we've seen one of our best ever players break his leg (Ramsey) , one of our most promising youngsters get repeatedly injured and then get cancer (Brooks), our greatest ever player plagued by injuries for the last 5 years of his career, a probable starting CB retiring at an early age due to cardiac issues (Lockyer), and other star players in the making like Collison retiring young due to injury issues. Add all the other injuries on top and it's quite sad. It is pretty unbelievable when you look at it.

Always liked the kid and has always turned up for Wales. Also, possibly, Tom Lawrence can do a decent job as a number 8 and not only on the wing or a 10. Almost forgot about them tbh. Yes, Levitt and Smith are the others that meet the same profile. A quick glance at Matt Smith on whoscored shows that he's at least starting every game, but seems to be putting in very ordinary performances. So being very average in a very average League doesn't give much confidence and suggests he hasn't improved much since he was struggling for any gametime with MK Dons in League 1 (similar level). Dylan Levitt was rarely picked before his injury and hasn't played this past month, so that's not an option. Sheehan's at least standing out at League 1 level (or was last season anyway), so he should still probably get the nod. Lawrence doesn't have the skillset for this role - I don't think he's every played as an 8, nevermind as a 6, and doesn't have any defensive instincts and regularly loses the ball when under pressure - so the opposite of what's required for Ampadu's role ha!

Add all the other injuries on top and it's quite sad. It is pretty unbelievable when you look at it. I think the point melynwy was making is that there are pretty clear parallels between this perception you have of Welsh players being abused and singled out far more than others, and Welsh players being far more injury prone than others, and that's because you "don't know of any other countries that suffer" with these issues to the extent that we do. Again, that's just because a) you understandably don't pay half as much attention to other countries' injury issues and b) it doesn't make as much impact for larger countries where they have 3 or 4 options for every position. We had 2 or 3 major injuries in the last group (Dan James and Brooks, struggling to think of other major ones), and we have a couple again now - that's just par for the course. I remember England complaining about being cursed when they had major injury scares around Beckham and Rooney going into major finals - but there was no curse, just an injury or two to key players. We've been unlucky that some of our all-timers have struggled so much, although there's obvious reasons for Bale (explosive players are almost always plagued by hamstring issues) and Ramsey (Shawcross). However, there are plenty of other countries who could say the same - look no further than our previous opponents Montenegro who've suffered with all of Jovetic's injuries. Obviously you're hardly going to think about the way Montenegro have suffered with having injury-plagued key players in the same way that we have because why would you, but we're not this massive victim like you seem to think. It's just the same challenges every other side have to cope with in football.

A massive blow but one we can get through. It's a team game and someone else else can come in and do a job. Ethan is arguably my favourite player and one of the most vital players for us at this point in time so it's a big loss, no doubt about it. Others have to step up, I don't know if Sheehan or Morrell are the answer, the latter hasn't got a club and the former looked bang average against bang average opponents. It's a tricky one but between Joe Allen and Ollie Cooper we might be able to do enough to get us through to the new year, if Savage and Crew can continue to develop and progress that could be a welcome bonus too.

Sheehan and Morrell are very poor players, nowhere near international class - that is why one is in the lower divisions and the other is without a club.
It is very depressing as either of this standard of player is a big weakness for other countries to exploit. For people defending Sheehan - sorry he is getting on and has done sweet nothing of note and watching him against Gibralter and his negative play in good positions versus Slovakia reinforced my view on him.
Probably one of the three worst players to lose given our lack of quality in defensive central midfield and the fact JJ is not getting any game time after his move to France, which looks costly for us

Sheehan is the best option available to us. Allen never starts a game, and when he comes on these days Swansea invariably concede - seen plenty of Swans fans complaining about his performances. Ollie Cooper doesn't play that position, Savage is back on the bench (so those wonder goals aside, it doesn't look like he's making the progress we hoped), and Crew doesn't look ready at all. It's a very specific skillset that we need. Think back to the set-up when we were building from back against Turkey - the centre backs would split, Ward would keep the ball until pressed, and then Ampadu would drop back with someone on his heels and coolly play it to one of the centre backs - that's what we need. Sheehan does that every week for Bolton - that's his exact role for a club who attempt to play out in a similar way.
