A native Dubliner here so if anybody has any questions fire away!
We've a nice city but probably more expensive than what you're used to in Britain. In terms of areas to head out and drink I'd suggest avoiding Temple Bar (zero Irish people actually head out there). Overpriced pints and tourist central so avoid. Try and head to Baggot St (Quite close to Lansdowne Rd) , Camden/Wexford/ George's St (This is long street which basically runs into one another. Loads of bars and restaurants)
If anybody fancies places open until 5am and 6am then head to Harcourt St. The street is pure bedlam most nights but great craic. There's about 6 nightclubs all beside each other. There's also numerous bars off Grafton St (our main shopping street) which would be good a few day time pints.
Generally a pint in Dublin will set you back between €5.50 & €6. If you're looking to drink where the Irish head out then go to the above streets. You'll be welcome absolutely everywhere.

One tip.. I've had a lot of Welsh rugby fans who visit Dublin & mention how the didn't realise how a country in the UK has the euro as a currency. Don't be ignorant like your rugby counterparts!

For anyone making a weekend of it and travelling home on Sunday 26th March, Flybe have just released their flight from Belfast City Airport to Cardiff - £46.99 one way at 2pm. The train from Dublin to Belfast is €20 one way. €38 one way but you could get it cheaper online.

This is taken from the ddraig werdd Facebook page, I'm sure they won't mind me sharing it.
Brilliant news has reached me courtesy of the magnificent Sam Greenwood Prior to the IRELAND V WALES World Cup qualifier in Dublin on the 24th of March we have been given access to use THE HANGAR as a city centre pre game hub. We have exclusive use of the venue and warehouse in a location thats perfect for a pre match meet. More details to follow but there will be dj's and beer. Leave your club rivalrys at home and lets recreate the magic of France.

I wouldn't recommended the venue You are far better around the stadium No shortage of pubs Slatterys is a very popular pub with Irish fans close to your entrance and if service is slow the spar shop will gladly sell you cans at probably €1.50/€2. Even less by the slab Zero problem with drinking on the streets around here No shortage of pubs around the stadium and shops selling cans

It's ran by a Welshman and it's got big screens and an ideal spot for those not going to the game.

Yes if not going to the game, very central There will be thousands with out tickets, ROI supporters clubs applied for several more thousand tickets than they actually got. Demand has not been this high in many years.

Maybe our Irish friends can help with advice on this one.
FLYBE has interesting routes from CARDIFF to CORK and BELFAST:
Match Day, Friday dept 11.30am Arrive BELFAST 12.35 for £65 Return SUNDAY, Dept CORK at 14.35 Arrive Cardiff 15.40 for ONLY £28
Quick search shows train fare is €18 to €20 and its 2 hours to both? Feasible?

Feasible? That route looks decent. Just check the train times on a random Friday and Sunday between now and then to make sure there are trains at times that will suit. Both routes are pretty well serviced though so you should be fine. The trains can be booked 60 days in advance and generally speaking the better prices can be obtained by booking early. Both can be booked on the Iarnrod Eireann website. By the way, the Belfast train has a bar carriage, but I'm not so sure about the Cork one.

I've just booked that one too...based on ease of transport to and from airport, distance from ground and general buzz, although don't know Dublin personally...would you recommend?

There is a bus service from the airport to the hotel, stop about 100 metres away. (taxis about €25) There is a night club in the hotel and plenty of night clubs on Harcourt Street. As regards getting to the stadium, a pub crawl is strongly recommended, its about 20 mins walk but some great pubs on the way, allow yourself a good few hours to get to the stadium

Harcourt Street is a great location. Nice part of town, 30 minute walk to the stadium and loads of great pubs within a 5 minute walk of your hotel.

I gotta room booked there as well which almost certainly will become available, at what cost though is anyones business. The hotel is around 1km west of Temple Bar, opposite side of the city to the stadium. Close to the Guiness factory/tourist centre!!

The tram to O'Connell st is only a hundred metres away. You can also get a Dublin bus from the airport to heuston railway station which is at the tram stop. If coming by air and you want to save some euros buy a unlimited bus and tram ticket in the airport for the few days. Avoid temple bar unless you want to be robbed by every barman lol. As for cancelling your room why not let someone just change the name and email.on the booking as otherwise it will be resold at crazy prices.

Another Dubliner available for help, advice etc if needed.
Couple of points. Would recommend NOT going to Temple Bar as said already. Better bars around Dublin and not as touristy (or pricey) as Temple Bar. A pint of Heineken in Temple Bar is €6.50-€7 before 10pm and then goes up, I think, €1 and then again if there's music after 12pm and always check your change! Most Irish people don't go there to avoid the stag and hen parties, the pickpockets and the fights. More phones are stolen in Temple Bar then anywhere else in Dublin and mostly between 10pm and 2am according to the Irish cops. Harcourt street will be mental and is always busy and has one of the most famous pubs in Ireland "Coppers". Advice is "if you can't score in Coppers, you'll never score!". Camden Street just around the corner from Harcourt Street is another great street with late night bars with music and another good few bars off Grafton street, O'Neills, The Bailey & Kehoes all good pubs, not far from Harcourt Street. Baggot Street has the famous O'Donoghues bar, always packed, Donheys and Nesbitts another great bar across the road. Getting from Airport to town is easy(ish) but no tram link for so either bus or taxi ride.
Stadium is central enough, you won't be allowed to bring glass bottles (booze or water) in, only plastic with no tops. Allow 30 mins walk from town. Best pubs close to the ground would be Slatterys, Paddys Cullens, The Bridge and Crowes and all will be packed, drinking outside allowed. For the few who will have tickets for the match, if in the away end, there's no cover on the stand so if it rains, you will get wet! Match is a sell out (first time for everything!), tickets will be very hard to come by as it's a must win match for Ireland and all the locals want to see Bale playing. Luas system (Irish Tube) is a frequent system and effortless, Buses are frequent and will get you into town in no time if staying outside the cc. Looking forward to the match and the banter!
