Thanks for the heads up manulike. Booked this last night after many weeks of debating to do this trip. I'm missing Dublin so this is a must! Spent so many hours looking for my best flight options and ended up with; Sat 10 Jun Stansted (07:05) to Memmingen (FMM) (09:50) £34 (RyanAir)Memmingen (14:50) to Belgrade (16:30) £39 (WizzAir) (20% discount) Tue 13 Jun Belgrade (15:00) to Amsterdam (17:30) £43 (Transavia)Amsterdam (19:20) to Stansted (19:20) £28 (EasyJet)

Post 1 of 2: As I said previously I looked at flights for quite a considerable time. Thought I would share some ideas for those still seeking some options for getting to Belgrade and back for as cheap as possible with little time off work. In addition, with it being 'Cyber Monday' today you may get some great deals from some airlines. The options below are for the way out and are priced per person and are from when I last looked at them. Best bet is to stick these flights into SkyScanner and go from there.
FlightFri 9th June: Depart Luton 20:20 Sat 10th June: Arrive Timisoara 00:55 TrainSat 10th June: Depart Timisoara 07:48 Sat 10th June: Arrive Vrsac 09:48 Sat 10th June: Arrive Belgrade 11:40 Total Cost: Approx £54.00

Wouldn't you just be better to book a single point to point ticket with comparable costs and no risk of missing your 2nd leg due to a delay in the first?
E.g. £173 return with Turkish, out 10th back 12th
10:05 LGW8h 20 1 stop 19:25 BEG 09:15 BEG7h 45 1 stop 16:00 LGW

I completely see what you are saying and that option works well. Just wanted to give people more options out of a number of different airports. I would say that using a number of my options listed above you can save a fair few quid and pick a choose dates more. I know I used it as an option above but a lot of people including myself will want to avoid Istanbul Airport which I believe your flight uses as stop over. Whatever works best for the individual though!

I think mattyd has the right idea - its not ALL about the destination ... but a lot about the journey there. I, for one, have plenty of time on my hands, so will enjoy stopovers in Ljubljana and Zagreb on this trip (as well as stops in Warsaw and Sofia on the Moldova trip etc.) If, however, you are limited by time constraints, then a regular airline with an airport lay-over might be your best bet.

Does it count as a country visited if you just transfer flights?!

How will we get on with the lingo over there? I won't try to learn Serbian. Everyone in Stockholm just showed off with how good their English was but Malaga was good for my basic Spanish. When I went to Croatia I learnt the basics: Hello - Bok Thank you - Hvala Cheers! - Ziveli Beer - pivo Always try and learn a bit of local lingo when I go abroad. Certainly breaks the ice a bit when you try before asking if they speak English. I believe the pronounciation is the same in Serbian but the spelling is in cyrillic? "Bog" is one of the few distinctly Croatian and not Serbian words. In Serbia 'Ćao' (like the Italian) is preferred. As for the script, they use both in Serbia but the 'official' is cyrillic - meaning that all government documents are in it. A lot of restaurants have cyrillic menus but they all have an English one (in Belgrade). I achieved B1 level last summer in Serbian so I can get by (took a while to learn as the grammar is a nightmare and there's very little in common). But in Belgrade, everyone under 30 speaks very good English, although people will be more friendly if you say a couple of words in Serbian. 'Nismo Englezi, mi smo Velšani.' We're not English, we're Welsh will suffice.

Also, I got back from Belgrade on Thursday night, spoke to a sports journo mate of mine who said that it's guaranteed to be played at the Marakana (Red Star's ground).

KLM FROM CARDIFF - UPDATE
KLM have now published their Belgrade Summer prices and it looks like they have added an evening connection on Wednesday (the 7th), meaning you don't have to catch the 6am out of Cardiff!
Return fare is £198 on the KLM site or about £190 on other sites: Dept Cardiff 5.15pm with 2 hours in AMS arrive Belgrade at 10.45pm Sadly, the return dept is still 6.40am ;-(
I'd say that you are still better off getting a return CF to AMS for about £95 (or Bristol to AMS for about £79 rtn) and buying the lunchtime flights on Transavia from AMS to Belgrade (last time I looked, they were still 50 euro each way)

If your getting taxis in Belgrade your best off getting the hotel to ring them and keeping with that company. Some right gangsters operating over there. One of them started arguing with me over the decimal point on the meter and got quite aggressive. Apart from that it's a great city but you'd want to keep your wits about you..

Did that for our game there and ensured was picked up from and then returned to Airport. Hotel just added it onto bill so no need to worry about having money for it. It was more expensive BUT walking out and having someone meet you at midnight and get you straight to hotel was good.

My hotel have already e-mailed me to assist with taxis. I won't take one unless I have to.

It'll surely only be Red Star's ground? Partizan look like the club of the people there so I'll obtain one of their jerseys for my collection. Have Hammarby, Torino and Malaga after recent trips!

Sounds like it's almost guaranteed to be in Belgrade but would love this confirmed, unlikely to happen any time soon though.
Me plus three have just booked direct flights from LHR, out Saturday morning back on the Tuesday. Not the cheapest option but gives us plenty of time to see the sights and get in the mix with the rest of Y Wal Goch.

BRISTOL to BELGRADE on EASY JET on either Thursday or Friday is only 70 euro! Early departure, though: Dept Bristol 07.35am and arrive Belgrade at 1pm (there is a 65 minutes change in Geneva, which is plenty, seeing its the same airline!)
Back from Belgrade on Monday is pricey, but its 85 euro on TUESDAY: Dept Belgrade 3pm VIA Amsterdam arrive Bristol at 7.30pm with Transavia+EasyJet (105 minutes in AMS, which is perfect, as you may well need to go through immigration + security again)

It's not sold as a point to point ticket is it? Same airline or not, if the flight from Bristol is even 15 mins late you'll miss your connection to Belgrade. Personally I'd steer clear of a short connection and look for alternatives.

From the fsf meeting with the faw tonight - the faw cannot confirm the game will be in Belgrade until it is officially signed off, but the faw do believe Serbia only registered the 2 Belgrade stadiums with FIFA at the beginning of the campaign therefore its highly unlikely to be played outside of Belgrade. The faw plan to visit serbia in the few weeks after Ireland away and will be able to confirm the location of the game on the back of that visit.
