I'll withdraw minimal Dinar from a hole in the wall each day. I'm not around in Belgrade until about 7.30pm on the Friday. I can't envisage much more than food and beer then either.
Looking forwards to acquiring a new football shirt for my collection. Partizan have had some smart jerseys.

What are the best local lagers? Jelen Pivo and Lav Pivo? Would they be your typical 5% pilsner type of pint that you could sustain for an all-dayer? I presume they'd be much cheaper than any imports as well?

For anyone on a direct flight back to the UK. Remember that you have a genuine Duty Free quota. However, if you have a stopover, that is not the case even if the goods are sealed...

Are there direct flights back from Belgrade? I spent a good half an hour searching for my best route from Manchester and via Istanbul with Turkish seemed the easiest. Earlier searches yielded via Frankfurt.

Are there many duty free bargains to be had at Belgrade airport? I always try and pick up a decent bottle of rum so I'll be on the look out for a couple of bottles if the options are good. Im on a direct flight so all good there.

They also have an App, on the lest side of the page - perhaps worth downloading? www.beg.aero/en/strana/23331/main-shop-duty-free

Zaječarsko or Nikšičko (from Montenegro) are my favourite lagers. Jelen tastes a bit like chemicals and Lav is almost undrinkable to me. But yeah, all around 4-5%, and cheaper than imports, although Staropramen can be a similar price.

From experience, I just tend to ask the bar staff to recommend me something. Cruzcampo in Spain was a popular tipple and I can't remember the names of the beer I drank in Stockholm. Fucking expensive too.
I have a two hour stop in Istanbul on my way there. I'll be ok to buy food and a beer with a Visa card if I have time? I can't be bothered to mess around with Turkish money for such a short time.

Hi belgradeboy - welcome back ;-) I was looking at your web site for ticket sales on www.iticket.rs/Prodajakarata.aspx and other than about 600-700 tickets sold in Zapad - Sektor 4 and 5 dole, there are almost no other ticket sales? Do Serbs buy their tickets at the stadium on match-day, or have you decided not to come because Gareth Bale is not playing?

Hahaha, fans will buy tickets few days before the match on the stadium directly when fss announce officially ticket sale. Stadium will be decently full, maybe 35000 maybe more, depending of how much tickets will be put on sale. That has nothing to do with Bale. If you are Spain, Argentina or team full of stars, maybe. This is the big chance for us to check the tickets for Russia, and support will be perfect. All of us expect routine win. Are you coming to Belgrade?

Yes. Of course. Arriving lunchtime on Thursday, so have plenty of time to sample the food. Staying on Slavija square - can you recommend a cheap pub (serving nice food) or a cheap restaurant to eat traditional food in that area - or is this all shopping and fast food area only?
OPERA UPDATE Sorry to disappoint every one, but the tickets for the premiere of Norma at the National opera for the Saturday night show have now sold out ;-(

OPERA UPDATESorry to disappoint every one, but the tickets for the premiere of Norma at the National opera for the Saturday night show have now sold out ;-( For breakfast go to Trpkovic bakery, this is the best bakery in Belgrade (burek with meat or pizza burek are the best, and small croissants with eurokrem(something like nutella)) located in Nemanjina street its about 200-300 meters from Slavia hotel. Babalu restaurant in Mekenzijeva street. Beer, in Drvo javorovo in Kneginje Zorke street. Avoid Gold grill on Slavija square... You can eat also in Kod Smilje, in Smiljaniceva street, about 1km from Slavija hotel. In Boulevard Oslobodjenja there is Pink Panter fast food, very good and cheap (pljeskavica+ beer+ fries is about 2e) Restaurant Trandafilovic in the corner of Mekenzijeva and Mutapova street about 500m from hotel Slavija, also very good food. In Mekenzijeva street are lot of fast food. For coffee , in Njegoseva street there is a plenty of bars, but i recommend rivers (any of splavs) for that kind of joy, weather will be nice i hope, so it will be pity to spend coffee time in city center on hot asphalt.

That is great information. Thank you belgradeboy ! all added to my Google Map ;-) It appears that the best option for a 2 or 3 day tourist is to buy a paper multi-storage " Bus-Plus" card that costs 40 dinar. Can i only top this up one single time (up to maximum 720 dinar?) and then use 89 dinar single journeys until the credit runs out? It appears that these paper cards can no longer be further topped-up (changed in January 2016?) Or, are they only intended for one-time use 89 dinar trips or 290 dinar day-pass etc, effectively making the one trip cost 89+40din? I understand that the one-day unlimited travel deal for 290 dinar is great value, but I am quite sure that I will only really use public transport once or twice per day, as i enjoy walking. So would like to take advantage of 89 din fares without having to buy cards every time?

You can check the card for 90 minutes for about 120 dinars as i remember and use all the public transport during that time, i think that is better deal When you enter the bus, choose on validator what kind of ticket is more suitable for you. Paper cards are no longer in use. Almost forgot, from airport there is a bus "A1" who will drive you directly to Slavija hotel,so you shouldn't spend the money on taxi. Ask someone at the airport and you will get information about that. Ask everything you need.

I don't think I will buy a 250 dinar plastic card for 3 or 4 days stay in Belgrade, because it is possible to buy tickets even from the driver for 140 dinar. So for a plastic card to be worthy, it must be used a minimum of five times. But thank you for the information about the paper cards no longer being available. I imagine that many hotel will actually have plastic cards available free, given to them from other tourists. I am sure that if I would have bought such a card, I would leave it at reception and ask the desk to offer it to the next tourist ;-)

How are we planning on getting to the ground on match day? I remember oscardelta saying that they were marched there with a police escort... He also mentioned tram 9, 10, and 14 (all in the direction of Banjica) and i know that buses 42 and 59 go there from Slavija Square. Can belgradeboy please recommend a pub near to the stadium that will be welcoming to AWAY supporters AND will also show the Ireland football game earlier that evening?

Irish pub Three carrots will be suitable for you definitely, but is not near the stadium. My recommendation is Drvo javorovo (about 1.5 km from the stadium), nice stuff, nice ambient, and i think that they will be so kind to show the game.

I think I am. PM on here from the fella? Found this on Facebook:
"Ticket Allocation Update 23/05/17
The initial calculation for the reduced ticket allocation was based on recommendations from the guide to safety at sports grounds. Nevertheless, following discussion with the Police and FSF Cymru, the FA of Serbia have agreed to the FAW’s request for 200 additional tickets for Wales Supporters Club members. We will email those members on the standby list over the next week in order to take bookings."

Looked at some of the above flights but price has increased or no longer available . Found some decent ones on Kayak from Manchester but long waiting times at Airport. Anyone booked anything decent recently?

Good luck!

Hardly Went on a Basel Tram with the maps still attached inside, while pissing down with rain outside and got nice polite direction from a gent on the Tram who keen I stayed safe in his city. It was dark and wet, no chance of marching anybody, anywhere.

Thanks for the correction, OD - I may have mistaken you with YBIG thread, and I have a feeling the marching was the match you had three years ago?
