Do a search on YBIG as quite a few Irish did that route. The departure from Bucharest Nord is 7.15pm - no need to prebook and it was 25 to 30 euro (1st/2nd class sleeper). Takes 14 hours, arriving 9am. I will be doing the reverse journey and I noted down 25 euro/12 hours EDIT Search on DB German rail shows daily depat at 7.15pm and arriving 9am The return leg back departs Chisinau 16:45 arrives Bucharest 6am Just seen on 'The man in seat 61' Facebook page that there are reports that the train is now only running twice a week although websites is showing as still running daily.

Turned up to Bucharest Nord in April 2014 to board this train and there wasn't one that day, only twice a week. Nor sure if it changes down to the season or something, but we paid around the same, if not maybe less, for a quicker (albeit nightmare) bus ride instead. Got the train back which was fun, with plenty of Kvint brandy from Transnistria!

Was thinking of doing some wine tasting (Milestii mici) on the Monday If, like me, you have a penchant for communist and ex-communist countries, then I'd say it's definitely worth a visit. We did 2 nights there which was a bit too much but it's interesting to see a place sort of frozen in time or in denial about how the world has moved on. Nobody is under any illusion that it's a communist government, but they still reminisce about Soviet days and place a huge emphasis on their independent identity. Speaking to people was better than anything we actually saw, although it's fun to see hammer and sickles and Lenin still everywhere. In fact, the whole place is corrupt and ran by 'the Sheriff' (see the football team) who apparently exerts almost total power over government and the economy. Very surreal and worth a visit but not much to 'do'. The nightclub under the tank was memorable and the horseradish and garlic vodkas in a restaurant.

Any more updates on flight cancellations?
Been on WizzAir website and they have a flight from Luton departing midnight on Monday and arriving Chisinau 5:30 - direct flight.
Return either Wednesday or Thursday depending on if you want to explore the city after the match at 21:55 arriving back in Luton 23:55 local time - this flight also direct.
£230. Any better options by now?

What do you think the qualification for Stage 1 will be?
6 of the last 10 away games on your account?

If we get the allocation that Ireland had (1300?) 5 out of 10 might be enough.

I think 5 will be enough for a ticket, I was thinking selfishly about Stage 1 :-)

Lads just a bit of a warning about booking apartments in chisnau I know of at least 3 separate groups of Irish fans that booked apartments only for them to arrive and the apartments not being available
Now booking.com sorted them out with new accommodation but it was an absolute pain of a day for them having to ring booking.com numerous times to arrange alternative accommodation
The 2 main hotels most Irish fans stayed in were hotel chisnua and cosmos hotel. Alot of bars and restaurants near both as well

It's a grand hotel and rooms were much better in it than in the hotel chisinua. Staff in cosmos was 100% also and they even have a money exchange facility in the hotel which came in handy during our stay

I'd echo Ireland fan's sentiments here. Also book through booking.com as you have ore of a comeback.
We stayed in the Hotel Chisinau. Only a polar bear could get any sleep in there. Absolutely freezing, light bed covers and freezing cold water. You had to wait nearly half an hour for the water to turn from ice cold to boiling.
As for the badly lit hallways and the carpets, I think they must've filmed the shining there.
Book Cosmos as I heard that was a nice enough hotel.
Andy's Pizza restaurants are grand though.
Great trip but Chisinau's an awful dive. Makes Mosul look like Beverly Hills

Anyone done the maths and know what the criteria would be for this one if we had the same allocation as Ireland?

2000 looking to travel according to FAW Stats for Ireland were what and How many travelled ? I'd say 700 max from what I could see. We filled the stand behind the goal and there were other Irish fans at the side behind the dugouts. The Scots and Welsh seem to outnumber us for aways qualifiers. Scotland always did and I'd say there has been a sharp upturn in Welsh away support given the success of the last couple of years.

I'd agree with you there. Prior to the last qualifying campaign tickets for away games were relatively easy. Compare that to 2400 went to Serbia compared to 1500 to Wembley only a few years ago shows how much it has changed.
