I didn't realise that he was as old as he is, 25 in early April, 37 career league starts, he really has been a victim of injuries coupled with the weird Everton youth loan policy. Yeah I think more than anything Everton's bizarre youth policy screwed him over. Real bad habit of hording academy lads well into their twenties by keeping them in the U23's or just sending them out on loan with no real plan. Broadhead not the only one - Callum Connolly, Luke Garbutt, Gethin Jones, Beni Baningame, Matthew Pennington, Kieran Dowell to name but a few stayed there way overdue. Some even after their mid-twenties despite never having any significant minutes or none at all for the first team. Not to say Broadhead would be an absolute world beater but he'd have definitely been further in his career if he was managed properly.

They kept Garbutt until he was 27! Absolutely bizarre policy

Will be interesting to see progress of Everton (Carl Darlington) and Blackburn (Gus Williams) going forward to see what impact ex-FAW men can have.
Broadhead getting starts under new manager is positive sign and hopefully he can a) take his chance and b) stay fit.
Wikipedia still has details of our Toulon Tournament team from 2017 listed under Wales Under 20s. I'm still hoping Broadhead can move over into the hits column establishing career at Championship level or above.

Promising! Lucky for him he’s still just about eligible for a call up at the age of 24!

Found this on the Sunderland Echo's website for the game report today:
'Broadhead, meanwhile, was left on the bench, amid reports several Championship clubs want to sign him on a permanent deal from Everton in January.'
Interesting, but not sure how much truth there is in that. Signing permanently for a ch'ship would be a great move.

He did well there last season and with Ellis Sims going back to Everton it could provide a chance for him at Sunderland, he just needs to stay injury free and he needs to get out of Everton for good as he's never going to play for them.

Everton have recalled him from his loan. Looks like a permanent move is imminent...

Every chance of going straight into the team tonight given how inept Everton are
Must be a crushing blow for Wigan, that’s 20% of their goals taken from them

Not holding out massive hopes for him, I have to be honest. He's done ok at Wigan, but been in and out of the team with 5 goals in 22 games (half of those games have been sub appearances to be fair). Definitely a championship level player and has plenty of quality, but not sure he offers enough.

DS reported Ipswich were interested. Not a bad move, decent club if and when they get back up

Definitely a player there watched him a fair bit this season being a Wigan fan unfortunately 😅
Look beyond the stats with Nathan. I think any player would struggle playing for us this season. He was one of our better player at times. Good technical player and playing for a side with some actual attacking threat he's some player. Done well to score the amount he has for us!
He's struggled a bit with fitness is main reason him not necessarily starting more often and the fact games were happening thick and fast a lot of the time he hadn't recovered covered from a midweek or weekend match in time to start the next.
If Ipswich is a goer, I think that will be a great move for him to play in an attacking side under a very promising manager. Better with a permanent move as well.

Yeah, Wigan fans on twitter seem to rate him so maybe I was overly harsh. He never really impressed when I watched him with the u21s, and he was still playing with them a year or two ago.

In 1998, Wigan paid 750k for Simon Haworth, 1m for Broadhead, 24 years or so on, could turn out to be a bargain.

Good move, Ipswich could well go up and he could play an important role in that. Good opportunity to hit the ground running as well

Looks a good move for him at first glances. However he will need to play well as they already have a glut of forwards and just signed another (Hirst) on loan. Hope he plays regularly and not warming the bench for the next few seasons.

Ipswich fans reckon he will be playing as in inside forward off the left-hand side (like DJ's best position).

Playing games this year as left-sided attacking player is positive for his international hopes. He's at a good club now under a good manager - hopefully they can catch Plymouth and make Championship next year without stress of play-offs.
