I searched for a thread on Ryan but couldn't find one. He deserves one now as hopefully we'll see him push on following his move to Barnsley today.
Barnsley are fast becoming a good breeding ground for Welsh talent for us which is great. Is there a Welshy in their ranks there?

A championship side in the top half of the table with 5 welsh players
Could think of another team that would be happy with that

Been keeping a keen eye on Barnsley for this very reason. With the addition of Gethin Jones and Hedges they have Welsh players right through the spine of the team now.
Adam Davies Gethin Jones Ryan Hedges Marley Watkins Tom Bradshaw
Hedges has yet to play but the others get a lot of game time playing good football at a competitive level. Up the Tykes!

I must have missed that, when did Gethin Jones join? Does he start for them? How's he getting along?

He joined this transfer window...straight in the team and has played twice so far.

Great to see Gethin playing regularly at a decent standard, I was worried his career was stalling at Everton with Coleman infront of him in the pecking order

Swansea were linked with Marc Roberts - central defender - in the transfer window just closed. Although he's Barnsley born and bred, I can't help wondering if he has some Welsh ancestry, what with his surname and Welsh spelling of his first name.

His contract us up at Everton at the end of the year and Barnsley have negotiated the right to sign him permanently at the end of the year. Like you say, he needed to move away from Everton and he's landed an opportunity at a very appropriate club.

FAW already been made aware of him a few weeks ago. (the same with Ashley Williams all those years ago) Win some Lose some!

He wrote on twitter it's because of injury. Great for Hedges though.

Would he have played a part anyway? Not pulled up any trees since joining Norwich City.

Interview with Hedges here on his recent call up to the Wales squad: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05jnvctThere's a good chance he'll be called up again in November if he carries on his early season form.

A question to Swans fans and anyone who has seen a lot of Ryan - Have you had the chance to see much of the defensive part of his game? I've only seen him play on the left and right wing. He looks in the Stuart Downing mould when deployed on the right to me. I know he played centre mid for Swansea's DVP also though I never saw him play there.
The reason I'm asking is I wonder if he might have what it takes to be a left wing back option for us?

I've only seen him in the Welsh U21s before he made his debut for the seniors, and I can't say he impressed me a great deal. But I did get the impression that he might have a good engine on him - but that's a tenuous appraisal at best. But it's certainly the case that identifying wing backs is a priority for the new manager.

Will be at the Barnsley/City game tonight so I can give a mini scouting report on all the Wales B players afterwards.

Hedges showed some nice touches but didn't offer a lot, along with all his team mates. Was a bit surprised be came off. Was the conditions tough? So many players falling over.

Yeah it was really slippy out there, Bennett went over 3 times. Thought Hedges was okay, put one really dangerous ball in from the left. Started on the left and then moved to the right. Davies might have done a bit better for the goal, couldn't really tell, didn't have an awful lot to do, his kicking was a bit dodgy. Bradshaw improved Barnsley a lot when he came on, some great link up play. Both teams were very poor tonight though.

Yeah I thought Davies's kicking was poor. Wondered if it might be a weather issue.

Is he good enough to push the others for the GK starting berth? I haven't seen this guy play yet but heard good things.

I think he's behind the three we've got at the moment but he'll be pushing hard. He was captaining Barnsley last night, not sure if that's a permanent thing or not. Certainly 4th choice.

I'm going to make a point of watching Barnsley whenever I can because of the Welsh contingent though. Off the back of last night, his kicking wasn't great. Compared to Maxwell, who's kicking looks a real strong point when I've seen him this season. One thing I'd say about Davies and Maxwell is they both look a little short for goalies. This is starting to becoming a recurring theme of late for Welsh keepers. Ward and Wayne are comfortably 1 & 2 at the mo. Personally, I feel we underrate Wayne quite a lot. Think there is credence to the story about Cookie taking Ward in Jan, but there may be competition for him. Let's hope that Klopp isn't so short-sighted if that happens.

Wayne has certainly been Wales's best keeper from 2012-2015. He was outstanding in the Euro qualifiers. But since then, mistakes have really begun to creep into his Wales performances as well. The first notable one was against the Netherlands, and then he has made noticeable errors since against Ukraine, England (maybe slightly harsh), unconvincing with both the goals Mitrovic scored and then let Griezmann's goal straight through his hands. Considering that's 6 errors in only 20 games, that's not a great record for a keeper. I think Ward and Maxwell are the best options in the future, personally.

I think Ward could be an excellent keeper for us, just needs to play some games now and develop his game.

Aaaaanyway back on to the subject of young Mr Hedges, I thought he did well in his brief appearance against Panama. Rewatched the game recently and some of his touches were superb and he put a great ball through for his old team mate Watkins to nearly score.
We could well see more of him in next years friendly fixtures.
