Wasnt the entire team rubbuish against ireland, thats what i thought. altho if you just want to blame kinkg for the 3-0 defeat i wont stop you.......... ireland was quite possibly the worst i have seen them play in a very long time, it was a worry to see them go one nil down and basically give up

Let's wish Brian Flynn and the boys all the best for Tuesday afternoon's match in Andorra.
Similar match to the opening match of the Euro 2011 campaign, when of course we drew nil-nil away to the bottom seeds Luxembourg. Hopefully we can go one better this time and get all three points.
Czech Republic favourites for the group but we have a very good chance of finishing top two and qualifying for the play offs. Third time lucky for Brian Flynn! Plus we all know we should really be hosting it anyway...

Anybody got any links for the game? Need 3 points here like you said that Luxembourg result effectively runied all the rest of the good performances in the group.

Its great that at least at Under 21 level we can have some confidence in the setup. Massive respect to Brian Flynn and the players. Lets hope they get the job done tomorrow.

I love their style of play, its a pity it isn't translated into the senior squad. Maybe they should have given Flynn until the end of the qualifiers, because he does deserve the opportunity.

they look like they enjoy playing with the freedom they're given...whilst the senior squad look terrified
flynn's given them a lot of confidence

I'm sure Gary Speed would take a 0-1 (og) win against Andorra right now.

You can only beat what's put in front of you, and thats what our U21's did.

I remember going down to the Liberty and watch Rambo destroy Italy and thinking if only we had nailed 3 points against Luxembourg too. As it happens we went on to play awesome against Hungary picking up maximum points and it was all for nowt. This side obviously lacks the quality of Ramsey and also the likes of Riberio, Blake, Ched Evans and Vokes etc but it has already notched up wins against NI and Autstria and to be fair those players were in and out of the last campaign. The majority of this squad has played well at U19 level recently qualifying for the Elite Round for the first time ever and has some future stars like Adam Matthews and Ashley Richards coming through. I think what they do lack however is a strike force. Cheds record at this level was awesome and the likes of Doble and Chamerberlian or even Cassidy are yet to really do much. Hopefully this campaign we will see us go that bit extra and get to a major tournement cos it gonna happen at senior level for a while.

Andorra's last home qualifier was also a 0-1 defeat, to Latvia. They also drew 1-1 at home with the Faroe Islands. So they may also cause Montenegro and Armenia problems at home - let's hope so.
Another significant result for us tonight, Czech Republic U21's 16 match unbeaten run came to an end with a 0-1 home friendly defeat to France.
Next up for Wales, Montenegro away on Tuesday 6 September. Win that and we will be looking good for a top 2 finish.

Our first home match is on Saturday 8 October against Montenegro U21, venue TBC.
It's the day after Wales seniors play Switzerland. Here's an idea for the FAW - how about giving any gold or silver members who attend the Switzerland match the chance to get a free ticket for the U21s the following day?
And... How about a messageboard meet up at the Montenegro U21 game? We could meet up in a nearby pub, and head to the game together for a bit of a sing song. Might even organise a minibus from Cardiff if the match is played in Swansea, Llanelli or Wrexham.

If the match vs Montenegro in October is at the Racecourse (as it should be!) then I'll definitely be there rather than in South Wales for the senior game the night before. In fact, I'm thinking now that I might not bother with Bulgaria away and save my money for the U21s in the Czech Republic instead.

I have to say your efforts to drum up support and interest never cease to amaze me. Shame not more of us are as enthusiastic! Crazy Ray would be proud that's because watching Wales U21 over the last 4 years has been far more rewarding than watching the seniors! The comeback against France at Ninian, the 2-2 with England at Villa Park, the 4-1 win over Hungary at the Racecourse, the win over Italy at the Liberty... Brilliant games with some superb Wales goals. Seriously though, if the Switzerland game is a dead rubber why don't the FAW push for a big crowd for the U21s?

I agree scoop, although how's poor Johnny Ford supposed to market wrinkly old midget Brian Flynn's team? I mean, look at how handsome Gary Speed is! Something to work with there! Nevermind the results of the respective teams - the leek munching peasants don't care about anything that trivial.
The U21s have been a joy to watch for the past 4 years- reminds me of watching the seniors in the 80s/early 90s as a kid- noteable big scalps, consistantly good at home, loads of goals (and quality ones), able to grind out results away (today a good example) ...but just unluckily falling short of qualification.

How do you think this Under 21 squad compares with that of the previous two campaigns then?
Seems that Allen and Mathews are the most notable players, Ramsey, Hennesy, Ched Evans and even Rhys Williams seemed to be big news at the time of the last campaigns. Bale was never really a part.

Toshack can't let go! Seriously though, nice to see him out supporting the youngsters. Local game for John Benjamin! Where do they play? I imagine Andorra is still a bit of a trek from sociedad or wherever Tosh resides. Fair play to him I say - I imagine it's more of a trek than say London or Manchester to Cardiff / Wwrexham for some of our other ex players and managers to go and watch the u21s. On a positive for Speed though, he did go to a few u21 games just after quitting playing for us I think.
