Reports saying Brooks is set to be out for up to 3 months as he needs surgery on an ankle injury.

I've got a feeling that the Nations League play-offs are our best hope of making the Euros. Depressing thought, but perhaps not unrealistic.

I've got a feeling that the Nations League play-offs are our best hope of making the Euros. Depressing thought, but perhaps not unrealistic. I thought this after the away double header. There was no shape at all against Hungary, I'll be incredibly surprised if we manage to turn it around without Brooks. Our only hope is Ramsey getting fit and finding form.

Yup. My feeling after the last double-header, and reflecting on the factors that led to our convincing win at home against ROI, that we needed everything to go in our favour if we were to qualify from the top two in our group. We simply need to put out our strongest, or near-strongest side, in all the remaining key fixtures. Losing Brooks is a very bad start in that regard.

He could be back in time for Slovakia away if it's 3 months he'll be out. We should manage without him against Azerbaijan.

From Giggs
Maybe give him a ring? Or ask Bournemouth?

Don't be silly, that would require him to do some work outside international windows!

I swear he manages like he's playing football manager.
A week before each international week he'll get an email with a list of players who are available.
Once the games are done he'll go on holiday until the next time.

So good to see Dai Brooks at the game and joining in with the celebrations after the final whistle. This guy clearly loves playing for Wales
And to think we have him to come back into the team........

Frightening to think he wasn't in squad and is nowhere near his peak yet, same for Joe Rodon, Dylan Levitt (was in squad but no appearance), Matt Smith. Brooksy going to be top top player.

I wouldn't be surprised if Matt Smith was a championship player for most of his career.
As for the likes of Levitt, Burton, Neco Williams - you have no idea how they will progress.

Crazy to think of what our attacking options off the bench were in the last Euros vs who we are likely to have in the next finals. Brooks isn't even a starter while Bale is used on the right. I'm not sure where Lawrence even fits in, cover for James perhaps?
All in all this group has a lot more potential than the 2016 team which was kind of forced to make defence it's core strength because of a lack of real quality up top. We can afford to look more this time round at how we can give the opposition problems rather than how to stop them and nick a goal in an attritional style.

With all due respect, Matt Smith is only 19 years old (same age as Burton & Levitt). David Brooks and Dan James only burst on the scene at 20 years old and Joe Morrell is only just becoming a well known name amongst the Welsh contingent at 22. I think that's a very bold call to make about Matt Smith so early in his career, especially when you consider how promising he's looked in his previous appearances in a Welsh shirt.

I think i'm probably just going by the law of averages, what I've seen of him so far, and a gut feeling.
Happy to be proven wrong though.
Nothing wrong with championship players though. I think Joe Morrell will be the same for his career, but will also be very useful for us.

Matt Smith just went to the wrong club on loan, plus a few injuries. Broke through earlier at a tougher academy than Burton (both late 1999s). Levitt's a full year younger, give or take a week.
There are spaces in this squad for whoever gets a decent loan and turns it on around March.

Great to see Brooksy with the squad, same goes for Jonny Williams. Shows there must have been heaps of confidence behind the scenes with inviting the guys who couldnt play to possibly celebrate after.
Shame no sign of Rodon and Lawrence though.

He was there and he looked more excited than anyone, which was nice to see. He also did a Klinsmann - suspect Eddie Howe will be having words

I noticed Matt Smith but couldn't see Brooks. Will have to look again at the published press photos.

Not looking too promising, a bit up in the air. I was worried until I read ‘it’s not a setback’. Maybe the original injury was played down.

Fuck sakes! That is unbelievable, thought Bournemouth said a few weeks ago that this delay wasn't a set back? Also seen on the Bournemouth forum that there's a rumour that the original op was bodged up.........
Gutted for him, he's such a great player to watch. Really hope this doesn't turn out to be career threatening in any way.

Fucking hell, you've got to be joking. Really hope he's able to make this squad in the summer, and gets past this.
Poor lad hasn't had too much of a break with injuries and illness already in his career and he's only 22.
