Apparently England did call him up first. But you would imagine there might've been some kind of choice for the lad. The Welsh staff encourage dual nationals to try both nations. Think Ampadu trained with England after Osian Roberts encouraged him to do so. (I think I've got the right player). Let's not judge the lad too early. Good luck to him which ever he chooses. He looks a talent and hopefully he has the hunger to fulfill his potential. Woodburn and Roberts as well apparently, few more too

I think on talent alone he should be given a chance in the seniors. I don't see why any player would choose England over Wales. If you choose England the media will pick up on you, you'll be the flavour of the month and hyped until you get a call up, a few games later the media will be ripping you to pieces and demanding you're dropped. They'll chop and change and you won't know if you'll even be in the squad.
The alternative being Wales where you join a settled group, eventually play your way in and for the most part the spot will be permanently yours.

It would do more harm than good if we went about capping every decent Welsh player who was born in England as soon as they turn 16.

I don't see why any player would choose England over Wales. Er, because they feel English? Well yeah that's all well and good but why would they be representing Wales if they were so English? He's in a position where he doesn't have to be a Drinkwater, Livermore, Townsend or any other player who'd do well for a few months, pick up a dozen or so caps and then disappear into the international wilderness.

It's possible to feel both. Identity is fluid and complex for some people. Ampadu has Irish and Ghanaian ancestry as well. It's not a binary English/Welsh thing

What I meant was he's been in the Welsh system and is clearly highly thought of, he has an opportunity to establish himself as an international player for the next 10 years. If he would rather play for England he'll be in and out of the squad, the amount of players they call up is unreal, he could even get himself into a situation similar to Bond where it looks like international football will pass him by. I may be biased but I think if it's a straight decision between England and Wales you'd be a fool not to choose Wales. We're a closer and more stable group and there's less media pressure.

Brooks is starting and won a free kick very early on in front of goal from which United scored.
Edit: BBC stating that is a cracking derby atmosphere so this will test his temperament.

Brooks was excellent, thoroughly deserved the Man of the Match award
On merit, he's definitely worth a look, but is he fully committed?

Personally I just hope England u21s call him up next month and put this all to bed. I don't think it is as easy as that. I expect he will be happy to turn out for our under 21s as he is guaranteed a starting place and it ultimately means nothing. England seniors won't be interested until he is playing in the premiership so, as much as I hate the thought of cheap caps, we need to call him up to the seniors and test his resolve.

Players who stick with the Welsh system tend to reach their potential more often than those who are bigged up by the English system from a young age. If he chooses to play for the England U21s then there's nothing we can do about that. I'll be very surprised if they don't make an approach for him and if he'd rather play for England then so be it. I won't lose any sleep over it. If we call him up and he decides to take us up on it, we could have one hell of a player on our hands.

Why do you say that when his mum is from Llangollen?

Given the number of players injured or not playing and his current form he deserves selection on merit. If he's available we should have him in the squad.

His performance today was enough to merit a call-up, even with the games being so important. He was very, very impressive. At one point the commentator said he'd committed to us, not sure if he knows something we don't or if its just because he played for the 21s.

He looks like he has the potential to be a wonderful player but he is a Englishman and I wish him luck in his career with England. Do you think the same of Ben Woodburn & Ashley Williams?

He can't play for England under 21s in a competitive game as he has played for us in the qualifying campaign. He could still switch at senior level though. If any decision is made to call him up I hope it is done tactfully and they speak to him and his family first. I'd prefer to avoid a public trial of his loyalties. Seems like a good kid. He's had a chance to look at both systems so we can do nothing but respect his choice. I do hope he picks us however, as he looks like a likely future first teamer.

Why do you say that when his mum is from Llangollen? That sounds encouraging- I thought his connection was rather more tenuous than that.

Why do you say that when his mum is from Llangollen? Birth/Parents etc who cares means nothing, its all about how as an individual you feel. He feels English as clear from his twitter and interviews I have seen. Get him training with Gazza Bale. He'll change his mind

There's no harm in calling him up now and seeing his response. At this age he still has a shot at playing for England so if he were to accept the call up at this age I'd say its a pretty clear indication of where his loyalties lie
I understand welshdragon9's concerns about playing for England Under 20s, however if he was that set on playing for England and nobody else I doubt he'd have accepted the call up for Wales Under 21s
