Nathan Jones? He's been gone too long Probably wasted on anyone under 45-50, but nevertheless a supreme effort!

Congratulations to Nathan Jones on securing promotion today. Really cost ourselves the league this year but don't think it was his fault especially.

One for Welwyn - with Luton up to 2nd, do you think Jones could engineer another promotion? Worried other clubs are sniffing around?

One for Welwyn - with Luton up to 2nd, do you think Jones could engineer another promotion? Worried other clubs are sniffing around? I'll pop this here first (I'll admit that I haven't listened to it yet myself so don't know if it's any good), seems to be getting decent reviews from other Hatters though: d3d4football.com/d3d4-football-podcast-extra-the-big-interview-nathan-jones/As for my views, I was a lot more happy than some to have a season of consolidation but we have consistently been excellent from September through November. The performances have dried up a little but he results haven't. I think the depth of squad is being underestimated by a lot of other teams fans and even pundits. A great example of this is in the last three or four games, where our bench has consisted of 6 players who were in last year's PFA League 2 Team of the Year (& new signing Kazenga Lua-Lua). I'd be disappointed were we not to finish top six now. January is not just the biggest month in the history of the club, it might just be the biggest month in the history of the town. On the pitch we have; Barnsley (h), Sunderland (a) & Peterborough (h) in a row (ignoring a FA Cup tie at Sheff Wed in the middle). We may yet get Pompey at home in Jan as well (which was due on 3rd round day). As much as the board have always done really well in maximising income in player sales (Never thought we get anywhere near what we got for Isaac Vassell and we were still raking money in for the likes of Andre Gray & Jack Marriott in sell-ons's multiple sales down the line), this month will be huge in seeing how they deal with it. No question that the higher up the pyramid we go, the harder it is to replace anyone you let go with value, so we see how willing we are to back this side to win promotion. Keeping James Justin will be key. We have others that will definitely attract interest but keeping him is key because a) he's the best of them and b) he can play in all the positions where we could sell anyone of the others. Off the pitch, January is huge though, we have two planning applications that (fingers crossed) will FINALLY have a decision made on them after two years. One for a new town centre ground that, along with the amenities that come with it, will resurrect the town centre from the dead. Another is for a mixed development (hotels for the airport, office space and retail) at J10 of the M1 that will pay for the ground. That 2nd one (which gets decided a fortnight later) is causing the issue as the company who own the town centre shopping centre (that frankly, is a dump) want to build a new retail centre near J8 so have been putting all there might into opposing the plans. If both get the green light, it's all systems go. If either get rejected, there is no new ground and there is no future for the town, or the football club. At that point, Nathan and everyone else leaves.

Thanks but what about Nathan Jones? That's kind of the point I was getting at. I think if we get planning permission, he stays. If he doesn't then there is no point staying at a 'dead' project.

If he impressed at Stoke I would say he was nailed onto be favourite to be next Wales manager...whether he would want it or would aim for a Premier League job is up for debate

Always a bit disappointing to see a manager of a promotion chasing side leave. Despite their funding Stoke seem a bit of a basket case at the moment, probably better off playing a long term game by seeing promotion through and waiting for an offer from a more stable Championship side. Mind you, there aren't many champonship sides that could be described as stable in the current era.

Strong words from Jones here: www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jan/10/stoke-manager-nathan-jones-fans-proud-luton-town“So I might have come from League One, I might now be a Championship manager, but I believe my work is top-end. If it’s top-end, then players will respond to it. That’s the only way I would like to gain their respect. I will get to know them, I will man-manage them, because that’s part and parcel of my job, and it’s what I like doing. But the fundamental thing is when we go out on the training ground, they will see work that defies where I’ve come from. People will say: ‘You haven’t managed at the top level.’ But I believe if I was to put my work against top-level coaches, there would be no big gap."

It's good to be bullish but is he over-egging the pudding too much there? If he does a Rowett and is out of a job in 3 months those quotes are going to come back to bite him on the ass massively. The way to show his work is comparable with Guardiola's is to shut up and get Stoke promoted.
