The trial has been put back to August. When is his contract up so we can just cut ties? I’m guessing his contract is up once we are out of the WC. Possibly once the qualifiers are over, but suspect it’s once we are out.

It's funny how he's literally become the forgotten man. Technically still our manager, but it very quickly felt like Page's team after he left. Finally getting this confirmed it looks like...

He brought Moore in straight away. No disrespect to Page but it’s easy to surmise that Kieffer might have been sat on his arse watching the Euros on TV last summer if it had been down to Page to give him his first cap given how averse he is to older players and even ones in form like Lawrence.
So simply for that alone Giggs has more than played his part towards the current success imo.

We're very lucky to have such a fantastic system where another manager could slot in almost seamlessly.

We're very lucky to have such a fantastic system where another manager could slot in almost seamlessly. The thing is though what if he’s found not guilty? That would then set off a train of thought along the lines of “have we benefited from Giggs being dragged through the courts when he could have been making a hash of the Wales job instead?” Page has been so successful that it would have taken a great effort from Giggs just to achieve parity in terms of achievement. I see them both as entwined when it comes to looking at eras in Welsh football because of the nature of the way Page took over- whatever Giggs has/hasn’t done the situation itself has probably benefited Welsh football, ultimately.

This had to happen. Because of the recent success. Page is attracting a lot of attention in the fickle world of Prem League management. FAW probably explained that to Ryan. Now they are free to offer Page a contract.

Some of Page's non substitutions / substitutions have been criminal.

FAW statement is very cold They are probably being careful because Giggs is still awaiting trial. Social media is proving to be a minefield for prejudicing cases before they are heard. Best approach is to say as little as possible

About time he did resign/pushed. We could afford to pay him off the rest of the contract once we qualified for the World Cup, and FAW would have said his contract was not going to be renewed and we would be giving the job to Rob Page anyways. PR says he's done the right thing by "Resigning", and shows some humility in not wanting to overshadow preparations for the World Cup. BUT he could have done this 12 months ago To me it suggests he was pushed judging by the FAW statement.

I just think it’s PL chairmen’s/owners desperate for the formula of PL prosperity. Lawrie Sanchez had a half decent NI side carving out results back in the day. Got lured into PL management with Fulham and then fired! Page with a Burnley sounds horrific

Now they are free to offer Page a contract. I’d have been amazed if Page got a job in the PL. And whatever contract he’s on will be peanuts compared to what he would get there anyway. International management will increasingly be totally different to club management. Potentially with a need for different players too. Pep and Klopp for example couldn’t implement at international level what they do at club level. You need simpler tactics because of a lack of time.

Can someone explain how he was still on the payroll? He was appointed on a four year deal in January 2018, I’d have thought he was out of contract. Or was the contract until after the World Cup?

The contract would have been until we were out of the WC. Page confirmed this himself (assuming he and Giggs were on the same terms as he was assistant) just after the Ukraine game- he said if we lost his contract was up.

Good riddance. He took too long to do this, and made a packet from the FAW in the meantime. The Association should have put a clause in his contract beforehand, to suspend his salary if he brought any type of scandal to their door. Especially given his previous antics. Obviously not a nice guy, but innocent until proven guilty.

To be fair with Giggs as manager we qualified for our second European Championships, got promoted to the elite in the Nations League, qualified for our first ever World Cup and he did it all from his living room. Best Wales manager in history.

Especially given his previous antics.Obviously not a nice guy, but innocent until proven guilty. It is common practice to have a 'bringing the organisation into disrepute' clause in the contracts of employees that are public facing in some way. If the FAW didn't have one in his contract, somebody at the FAW needs a kick in the arse. I suspect that there was a clause in the contract the but the FAW were reluctant to exercise it. Remember that for many on the FAW council he was 'their man'. There would have been much eggs on faces for them to admit the obvious that Giggs was a wrong appointment. When this first broke, he was just being interviewed by the Police. At that time did the FAW have the financial resources to defend a claim against breach of contract / unfair dismissal? Probably not. It would have meant coming up against Giggs £1k per hour lawyers arguing that being interviewed by the Police hasn't brought the FAW into disrepute. The longer that it went on the harder it would have been to prove that he had actually brought the organisation into disrepute. I think that they figured it would be easier and cheaper just to continue to pay him and let it take its natural course.

Don’t you think moneybags Man City would have done that with Mendy if it was just about paying someone off and getting rid of the negative PR? As I’ve said on here about a million times there is legal process to follow and it’s imperative that that happens so as not to prejudice a trial. Hence why even the richest clubs will typically suspend a player/manager pending an investigation and potential trial where the encumbent will be associated with the club’s name.

Obviously not a nice guy, but innocent until proven guilty. Yeah, he's been out of action for almost 2 years. I'm assuming, given his character, that he will have been receiving full pay during that time. We know how much he was reported to be on, which basically means he's taken just shy of a million from a cash strapped organisation responsible for Welsh football, all for no work and throwing Welsh football into disrepute for good measure. That investment could have gone into grassroots and infrastructure. I think that says all you need to know about the man.

Exactly The bloke has a right to clear his name. Also let’s not lose sight of the fact that the reason we don’t have a verdict yet is very little to do with Giggs (apart from the initial accusation and until the evidence is heard the accusation should be considered just that) so to accuse him of trousering ill-begotten loot is somewhat unfair. There should be a compensation scheme in place to account for the endless prevarication that seems to be a hallmark of British “justice”. Basically, Giggs should not be made uncomfortable enough by the financials to resign therefore forfeiting the chance to clear his name but equally the employer should be financially protected from cases that keep getting rescheduled for years on end while courts deal with backlogs.
