I didn't realise that the Europa League final is on 29 May ... Rambo, FYI, if you don't mind staying on another 24 hours in Baku after the game, you can get a direct Wizz Air flight to Budapest. From there its just a train to Pecs and another short hop across to Osijek to meet up with the lads. Happy to book you into the Youth Hostel as well, but they dont accept children under 8 years-old - so Colleen is going to have to stay at home ;-( Lets hope Arsenal get knocked out of the cup. Plenty of rest and no risk of injury leading up to the June games. Ramsey scores his final goal for Arsenal at Burnley on the last day of the season, relegating Burnley and keeping his beloved Cardiff City in the premier league. I remember him scoring a cracking goal for us at Burnley as a teenager.

Playing at Bakcell Arena for this game. 11,000 capacity, brilliant.
EDIT: I may have been mugged off by a very believable April Fools.

Similar scenario here - 6 of us travelling with different 'away' record history, from none at all to 4 aways. By looking at the previous stadiums used, Baku as a city, and the smaller away allocations for other countries in this group are hoping this is the one that secures a ticket for us all we hope, please. We can perhaps take comfort in the fact that Wikipedia have "decided" that the Croatia match in September is at the Olympic stadium ... However, UEFA still got a blank there and the Azeri FA got no information atm... I received an email off The FA Azerbaijan's media relations official earlier today. He pointed out that preparation for the Europa league final in May is their current priority and their current reason behind using the Backcell arena. He says''more than likely'' following the final the forthcoming matches will be played at the Olympic stadium but not guaranteed.Message finishes'' We will provide you with more detailed information about the venues of the next matches as soon as it will be possible. Hopefully from a sponsor's viewpoint they will want to see Bale and Ramsey performing at the Olympic stadium

They do get some pretty reasonable attendances and if they've been forced to play a couple of qualifiers in a very small ground then there may be demand to get a very good attendance for this last home match for them. I also think they'll want to give it a run out 6 months before it hosts games in the Euros.

The main Turkish airline is great. We did Tbilisi with them in 2017. Istanbul has two airports. Ataturk to the west which is reasonably close to the city and S Gokern to the east which is a bit of a trek and limited public transport. Turkish mainly in and out of Ataturk but not completely. Budget carriers like Pegasus into S Gokern and Buta which is how we're travelling. We're doing it for about £ 160 there and back with Pegasus and Buta. Quarter to midnight flight out on the Wednesday getting to Baku 2.30 in the afternoon the following day. Return 7.45 from Baku on the Monday 7.45 and in Stansted just after mid day. Its probably gone up a little by now but add your flights from Dublin to Stansted and still probably under £ 200 return. Never stayed in Istanbul but stopped there once on a cruise. Would love to go back. If we do get to the Euros and end up in Baku, a few days in Istanbul would be part of the plan.

Whats the most efficient way to get there then ? If you have time to spare than certainly via Kutaisi and Tbilisi and then an overnight train. If you are more pushed for time then either via Kiev or via Athens.

Is that what the majority are doing ?

Whats the most efficient way to get there then ? We're going from Stansted via Istanbul with Pegasus and Buta airways. Leave quarter to midnight on the Wednesday and arrive early afternoon on the Thursday. Return about 8.30 ish Monday morning back into Stansted just after midday. 4 hour stop on the way out, 2 on the way back. There's 8 of us going and we booked pretty much as soon as they came out for between £ 155 and £ 165 total. I've just looked and you can still do those flights for about £ 225 which is still pretty reasonable given the distance. Be careful with Buta their initial price doesn't even include hand baggage so you'll have to upgrade. That bit with the bags is currently $ 85 each way.

That bit with the bags is currently $ 85 each way. When I booked it was cheaper to upgrade to 10kg of checked in luggage than take hand luggage. Mental. Also you will get charged st the airport if you don't check in online and online check in only opens 24 hours before your flight. But the charge is only 8 euros and in Baku you won't get charged if you use the self service check in machines.

Didn't see that option but at £ 155 - 160 return I don't think you get much cheaper than that.

I wonder how much Arsenal and Chelsea will have to pay for their charter trips. Perfect storm going against them. A very long way. No alternative land route. Very limited connecting flights into Baku and at short notice very little availability anyway. Very little alternative to flying directly ( possible overnight train from Tbilisi ). Cockneys primed for being fleeced at the best of times. Massive shortage of charter aircraft due to the Boeing crisis. I reckon £ 1500 straight in and out but wouldn't be surprised to see it at £ 2000.
Could make Wonky Sheep look an absolute bargain. I hope they sort this Boeing crisis out asap or they have a very firm agreement with their charter provider.

Wizz Air Luton to Kutaisi on 14 Nov is still £58. Expect this to drop by 20% or even 30% next week (the Wizz Air Birthday special - subscribe to their Newsletter or follow them on Twitter etc). Spend the day in Tbilisi and take the overnight train to Baku, arriving match-day. All together, about £70 to get to Baku

Flew into Bucharest, had a night out and got the train to Chisinau the next day, great experience, albeit a little scary at times. Also worth mentioning it's about a 3 hour bus ride from Kutaisi to Tbilisi which we did as well for Georgia away, slept straight through on the way there. Hungover on the way back wasn't quite so easy haha.

With this talk of Mykyterian (?) may not being able to play in the final does anyone know what the deal is with an Armenian stamp in your passport? I am not entirely sure what the 'official' stance is once you actually have obtained an Azeri visa. The only proviso there was a question asking if you have been to Nagorni Kharabah...
The only two countries I have ever visited that asked me if I mind a stamp in my passport were Israel and Armenia...

On BBC London news tonight there was a report and interview with Arsenal fans who have been refused a visa to go to the match because they are British but of Armenian descent.
