His defensive stats on Fotmob were very good, an 8.2 rating, which is very high for a player not scoring or getting an assist.

Search his name on Twitter, and see the glowing feedback on his performance today. So that's two games in, two brilliant performances. Keep this up and he'll give Bellamy a real selection headache at full back in a month or two! sure he isnt far away from getting some game time think he will be part of the strongest possible U21 in next window though

When I watched him against the Czechs at U21 level and before that, then while his attacking play was excellent, his defending was a weakness, including his positional play / defensive anticipation of things. He did not shirk a challenge though!
So its really exciting to hear these comments about how that side of his game is coming together
BTW - was Neco dropped by Forest yesterday? He was a bit poor for Wales in defensive situations at times versus Turkey. Hopefully he gets back into form by next month!

Neco Williams (right) and Owen Beck (left) as the two fullbacks works for me, as those are their preferred positions, and they are both good going forward.

Yes, and I think Connor Roberts was poor for us for a large chunk of the latter part of Page's time in charge. But he was fantastic against Turkey and is great playing the inverted full back role in Bellamy's system, so I'm not a fan of dropping him either! Another rotation option I guess!

Seems like it was another local derby too soon for Owen, late red card for him and I'm guessing he might have a real fight on his hands now to make left back his own this season.

Another passionately fiery performance. I have no idea how he lasted for 89' without getting a caution. Got a straight red then (possibly after being bitten?). Still - a little too much aggression for international level, surely?

Red card came for kicking a PNE player trying to play on after free-kick had been given.
It wasn't as violent and the "tackle" Martinez did yesterday for a yellow card against Crystal Palace, but it's an offence he shouldn't have made.
In the pushing and pulling afterwards a PNE player did appear to bite back of Beck's neck.

Looks a little harsh for a red, especially considering the fella who bit him got a yellow Definitely the kind of thing to stamp out before stepping up to senior internationals x.com/onediocom/status/1837871825767764132

Lost his head a bit, hopefully not a reflection on his true self. What's more important is how he responds to this.

Still - a little too much aggression for international level, surely? He will have to change that if he is going to be an option, dont mind players being aggressive but it has to be controlled and focused but surely his club manager needs to get a grip of this or is he wanting him to play like that

I don’t see any difference personally and am surprised anyone can defend it. He knew what he was doing, it was both blatant and sly to do that to someone running past. Most of all it’s pretty braindead and as others have suggested, makes him something of a liability at this time.

As several of you has said he has to learn to control his aggression. Some of his challenges for Wales U20s have looked tasty and could turn to a red card at the margin and football is refed differently than it was in the past
However, I quite like that we now have a couple of players that have an edge about them in our team. We have had players that have arguably been too nice and honest over the year, but now we have physically aggressive players like Amapdu and James, with the latter skilled at committing professional fouls when needed, while Beck, has a hard edge about him and him which makes him stand out compared to our other full backs and even centre back. We do not want him to lose that side of it - but as said he just needs to direct his aggression in the right way given how things are now refed.
Look at teams like Ireland and Scotland to a lesser extent Scotland - they always had a horrible player with an edge over the years which had an overall positive effect on their teams.

Harness and channelling the aggression is fine but if we're to punch above our weight long enough to go up in weight class we need players to be disciplined enough to stay on the pitch and to not give silly things away. I've cut Beck some slack already this season but he's got to reign it in and I think he will, he's played away from home in two big Lancashire derbies, I'm sure the Blackburn fans already love him due to his commitment and aggression but if we're up against it away from home holding onto a point or three in somewhere like Turkey we don't need any rushes of blood to the head.
I've still got high hopes for him, it's a learning curve and one he's had to wait for because of the way certain loans worked out but he's clearly a decent prospect and hopefully a very good option for the next ten years or so.

Some perspective. A quick glance at his career statistics shows that this is only his second red card in 118 games of senior and youth football, and his first since a red with Liverpool's u23s 3 years ago. Think people are getting slightly carried away in running off with this narrative about him being overly-aggressive and ill-disciplined after watching bits of two local derby games. Think people need to chill out a bit...

Forget the youth football, that is irrelevant now once you step up. Last season he was booked 11 times in 29 games. It's an issue but hopefully one that can be worked on.

Obviously he needs to learn to pick his moments and that, but I'm sure he will in time

The bloke that bit Beck has been banned for 8 games. Still shouldn't have lashed out but it does give his reaction some context.

Certainly doesn't lack confidence.
Had two good blocks from the goalmouth. Cullen and Hedges should have had at least two goals each...
