Gonna sound like a broken record, but Mullin scores last night.
Shame he isn't fit, but worth a look in October. He'd suit that football so well.

Turkey's number 9, bellend of the highest order.
Should've gone off in the first half.

Be interesting to see how we fare when other teams work us out. Turkey won't have been expecting that last night.

I totally agree with the reasoning, and I love that way of playing. I thought Ward followed orders well and ‘got’ it, but he still wasn’t particularly adept at it. He never angled himself even slightly to allow for an emergency plan b. I’m also always on edge by the habit Ward has if controlling and dragging the ball with the outside of his boot- it’s slow and imprecise, easy to miscontrol and can (and has) get him into trouble. Like I said previously, this is a big part of this way of playing, so we really should use the GK best suited to it. It’s good that Ward understands the approach and is willing to adopt it, but it obviously didn’t come naturally to him. I'm not sure I agree about him not angling himself correctly leading to a lack of Plan B. Whenever I watch any team play this way, I see keepers (even those renowned as being brilliant distributors) being forced down a particular path and even having to take a highly risky approach of bluffing to pass and turning the other way when an attacker approaches. Ward did that on one occasion yesterday where he had an attacker breathing down his neck, and he fainted to pump it long but then dragged the ball the other way and completely done him. Obviously it's highly risky, but how many times do you see the likes of Neuer doing that? When he does it he gets praised as an excellent ball-playing keeper, but when Ward does the exact same thing he gets criticized. There was only one occasion where he played the wrong pass which could have led to a goal, but again you'll see that in most games in the premier league every weekend. That’s fair, and you don’t need Neuer to play this style - players like him and Ederson can become playmakers in their own right on occasion with their passing range and vision. Our style that night didn’t call for that level of footballer - it was always a short, simple pass albeit to a man under pressure, so had to be accurate ond to their preferred foot. That said, playing this way is second nature for some GKs, and I think it’s clear that it’s not the case for Ward. Like I said I thought he did well and kept to the system, and it worked for the most part.

Let’s see how he gets on in League 1 this season, if he can match the 15-20 goals Harris scored last season. He just needs to build his fitness and get back into the Wrexham team first of all, missed an absolute sitter last weekend didn’t he. Marriott’s playing quite well, so Mullin might struggle to get back in the side for another while yet.

Missed the game, having watched condensed highlights of it the scoreline was the most surprising thing for me as I expected us to concede at least once. Bellamy went with basically the same line up but the system was in complete contrast to what we would have seen with the previous incumbent, which ironically would have been an expected scoreline.
I noted that despite lots of final third opportunities their keeper never made a serious save, however reading posts on here there appears to be a very positive response to the performance.
Watched a clip of Bellamy's post match interview in which he states "This is the worst we'll play" which is a little presumptious at this stage, but you can't knock his positive and persuasive attitude, something the players will obviously respond well to which is good to see.

their keeper never made a serious save, Yeah he never had to make a save, 15 attempts and only 1 on target. Fair result really.

Well there were two absolute sitters as well as a disallowed goal, and at least one great long range effort which was just slightly off target (it was still a better effort than an on target routine save, though if it had been a routine save I guess the stats would look better for some?!)

He'll come in as soon as he's fit enough, which is harsh on Marriott but we won't not field our talisman. It's akin to Wales not fielding Bale. What Marriott's form has granted us is the opportunity to ease Mullin back in. We've rushed him back in the past which hasn't benefited him. Regarding the sitter, he's rusty currently. We saw it last season when he first came back after the punctured lung, he'll miss chances he'd typically bury. Another one he'd typically score on Saturday was the one he took with his first touch that went straight at the keeper. I don't think these performances can be taken as his usual level, he'll get there bit granted it might not be before the October window and enough for Bellamy to usher him in without an injury crisis.

The Turkish view:
📝 Ugur Meleke #WALTUR
Craig Bellamy, 45, who played his first match as head coach of the Wales national team last night, used the following sentence on the first page of his presentation to convince the federation officials a few months ago: "We will play for Gary Speed". Those of you who are old enough will remember. The late Gary Speed was a Premier League legend during his time as a player. He is also known as the man who took Wales from the bottom of Europe to the competitive level as a manager. He brought Wales, who could not go to the big tournaments for half a century, into the top level competition of the continent, and then unfortunately took his own life at a young age.
WE COULDN'T GO BEYOND 10-0-0
Craig Bellamy was both a teammate and student of the late Speed on the national team. It is clear that as soon as he took charge of the national team this summer, he tried to instill a “Speed spirit” in his group of players. The enthusiastic game they played in Cardiff yesterday, the mentality of putting one’s head in the kick, really seemed to indicate that something had changed in the dressing room. Our boys had not been so inconspicuous and chased the ball so much in the first 45 minutes of a match for a long time. Wales played a 4-6-0 without a centre forward yesterday. Bellamy did not start a classic centre forward in the first 11, he played Ramsey and Wilson freely up front, almost cutting the midfield. We, on the other hand, settled for a situation that looked 3-4-3 on paper but could not go beyond 10-0-0 in reality.
WAITING FOR RED FOR CHANGE
Of course, it would be insufficient to explain the difference between the two teams yesterday with abstract concepts such as “spirit, desire, appetite, desire”. After the first half in which we were completely devastated in Cardiff yesterday, it is interesting that Montella did not make a few substitutions in the 46th minute. Our Italian coach, who did very well until the last 45 minutes of Euro 2024, was too late to make a substitution while the Netherlands paralyzed our right wing in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, and it was as if he expected us to concede two goals. Even though we played for a terrible hour yesterday, it was as if he was waiting for the red card to make a substitution!
WE SHOULD 'RESET' ON MONDAY
The only consolation of such a bad night is that we left Cardiff with 1 point, where we didn't even deserve 0 points. I hope we can reset our grey mood against Iceland in Izmir on Monday night.

Yes Wilson's shot was a very good attempt, but ultimately wide. We definitely more than shaded it yes, but it's not their keeper made 5-6 excellent saves like we have had in some matches (such as the Estonia 0-0 three years ago).

That’s true, but the point I’m making is that the amount of saves/shots on target is pretty much meaningless. A good shot that’s just wide is a much better effort than a tame shot straight at the keeper. But the tame shot on target will make the stats look better. But in reality the ‘target’ isn’t the entire goal; it’s a small part that the GK can’t reach. That’s a small target, and a good shot will still often miss it. We didn’t need a better performance yesterday to go home with a 3-0 win. And had it been 3-0, it wouldn’t have flattered us. The performance was that good.

Saves and shots on target are meaningless in a game of football? Wtf are you wittering on about As a statistic, yes. Having a shot on target is easy. Anyone can do it. And saving most of them is easy. Getting the ball in the net is not easy - it requires a shot aimed at a very small part of the target, so the chances of missing is greater. There are plenty of poor attempts that hit the target, and loads of great attempts that go just wide or over. 10 great attempt that go just wide is much closer to scoring than 10 shots straight ar the keeper, but the stats look better with 10 shots on target. An attacker isn’t going to just try and hit the target- he’s going to try and place it out of the GK’s reach, so missing the target is likely.

Frustrating, he worked hard but was pretty wasteful all night. In theory he should be out best player now but is miles off that. Bellamy rates him so hopefully he has a plan to utilise him better.

Out of possession we were magnificent all night and everyone chipped in. Tactically we were superb. We were just let down at times by a lack of quality. The conditions wouldn't have helped. Hopefully it all comes together against Montenegro. I suspect Koumas and Harris will start.

A very positive performance & reminded me of the game verses England at Wembley in the Euro 2012 qualifiers & very early in Gary Speed's tenure. We absolutely bossed & played them off the park that night & narrowly lost 1-0 but would have been different if Rob Earnshaw ( I think) not missed an absolute sitter in front of goal at the end.

A refreshing change I thought so too but he didn't do enough to stop Turkish time wasting when down to ten though. He said he was stopping the watch but the Turks got a big advantage from breaking up play to stop us getting momentum and give themselves more recovery time

Very good performance first half, slightly less second. Nice to see a new style of play, but with our weakest position being no1, made for some heart in the mouth moments. Shame we can't unearth a decent goalkeeper from somewhere, but there we are. Another average performance from Brennan Johnson unfortunately, how do we get the best out of him? Page failed and looks ominous again, although he did run around and cover a bit more than previous outings. Overall, a great start for Bellamy.

I am very happy with the way things are going really positive start

The day that Cardiff City and Wales fan Mike Dye was killed with the Daily Mail falsely reporting as caused by South Wales derby fighting. Arguably the birth of Together Stronger meaning something more and being a key part of success over the next decade. That slogan is still so key to us now.

Bellamy’s been a breath of fresh air with his messages and press conferences. Finally we have someone that has big ambitions for the side and wants to play with a more modern approach!
Last night’s performance was brilliant, especially in the first half. In the 2nd half when they went down to 10 men we struggled to break them down - Connor had a good game but 2nd half when Turkey were in a low block, he moved into CM a lot and I think at times they should’ve told him to get wide again to stretch turkey a bit as it became quite congested which is what they wanted imo.
I loved bellamy’s post match interview, where he said - the players are perfectly capable of playing it in a rondo in training so why not in and around our own box, control emotions and just play, fans might get nervous and mistakes will happen but over time it will benefit us hugely.
A positive first game, a slight worry is squad depth - if Davies / Rodon or Ampadu / JJ get injured we’re lacking a bit, but hopefully players like Savage and Cabango can progress a bit.
Atmosphere was ok but not great, theres a lot more event goers at wales game now which isn’t a bad thing but I think it pulls away from the atmosphere, we could also do with some new chants and maybe move away from yma o hyd a bit IMO. The stadium was rocking under Cookie’s football and I Think Bellamy can do the same, but the new generation of fans could do with coming up with new chants and songs.
Looking forward to Monday night, will we see Harris and Colwill feature? Both in good form and offer something a bit different. Exciting times for sure
