If Evans signs for Preston as it suggests in that Mirror article and he scores a load of goals at Championship level...

Yesterday’s man. Seems a million years ago since the U21 France game That first goal when he just moved his body and let the ball do the work to beat the man was outstanding. Remember it like yesterday not to mention his first senior goal in Iceland.

This is how it's described on the BBC championship live feed:
GOAL OF THE SEASON!
Simple long ball forward is headed away but only as far as Ched Evans.
And what a strike by the Preston man, volleying the ball as it looped into his path.
Think Zidane in the Champions League final.

If he starts well in the Championship this season, does he come into the squad for the September double header?
We are hardly blessed with an Argentinian like conveyor belt of strikers as we all know.

We are hardly blessed with an Argentinian like conveyor belt of strikers as we all know. Doubt it. Years gone by we've gone in for anyone and everyone at Championship level. But I feel we've moved beyond that now, we don't just call up anyone doing well in the Championship. HRK was in the Premier League last season as a striker and didn't get in the squad. Whether it was right or wrong to only take False 9s as back up I think that's the route we'll go down. If we can evolve our play a bit I actually think we'll be more dangerous against top teams with a False 9 in the future. 4-3-3 and we can do it

I'd imagine we'd probably see the likes of Cullen and Jephcott making appearances before him

If he starts scoring loads of goals........well, we do need a goalscorer.

Is that because of his previous off field problems, or do you think he's shot to bits at 31-32?

Is that because of his previous off field problems, or do you think he's shot to bits at 31-32? The off field problems play a role, also of course the media circus. I also think we're beyond calling players up purely because they're in the Championship, like allezlesrouges said we didn't take Hal to the Euros. I don't really see the point calling up a 32 year old to be a squad player (he's not getting in ahead of Moore) when that spot could go to, say, Harris/Cullen/Jephcott whoever

Possibly in trying to qualify for Euro 2024. Never seen Harris live or Jepchott.

Don't think anyone has seen Jepchott live since about last November!

Our only hope in the goals dept, is looking like the young lad from Grenada youth system then.

I can see us trying one of our numerous forwards up top for 2024 qualifiers, probably Wilson

Regarding others, Doidge seems have gone off the boil, Jephcott looked pretty average when I watched a few u21 games. Cullen will surely be on the cusp if he starts regularly playing, wouldn't be surprised if he overtook Matondo for example in selection. I've heard some decent things about Christian Norton at Stoke, but whether he will get senior chances this season is another question. Also don't know if he's a striker or not.

Personally, I wouldn't pin all our hopes on him still early days yet. Hopefully Jephcott does kick on. The games I've watched he did look average but seems to have a knack at scoring although his form did slow down a bit during the second half of last season. Still early days for him and hopefully there's more to come!

The most likely candidates are Tyler Roberts or Liam Cullen. The problem is we never persist with a player in a position for long enough - one average game and they'll get scrubbed off as ineffective if they didn't score.

Yeah Norton could be one who comes out of nowhere - not that many people talk about him, but he could realistically end up getting a run of games in the Championship this season

Going forward, we may have bigger issues than a goal scorer. Sad to say, but it looks as if around half a dozen of that Euro 20 squad look finished/stale at international tournament level.
