Going forward, we may have bigger issues than a goal scorer. Sad to say, but it looks as if around half a dozen of that Euro 20 squad look finished/stale at international tournament level. Who? I don’t see one player finished just yet. Jonny Williams?

It’s an odd one because as a collective we did well to get out of the group but at the same time the players we are best known for didn’t really show up. It’s also worth noting that Allen and Ramsey have missed a big number of games of late and yet it hasn’t really hampered our progress, at least in an achievement sense if not a performance one. So I agree that there were signs of decline at the Euros and to a certain extent the players we would ordinarily look to most have to step up a bit going forward. For me there are a lot more questions than answers at the moment in that we know who our best players are on paper, but on the pitch it’s not quite as clear cut after some under-whelming personal performances at the Euros. We’re heading for a period of transition as soon as this World Cup campaign comes to an end, imo, and it’s going to be badly timed what with us being in the top tier of the next nations league.

Although I'm slightly terrified of being in League A of the Nations League, the good news is we're pretty much guaranteed a play-off place for Euro 2024 already, should we not qualify through the main qualifying group. For Euro 2020 only one Group A nation didn't finish in the top 1 of their group - Iceland - so they got a playoff place. As far as I can see, up to 4 teams in Group A can go through the playoffs, so we should be nailed on. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2020_qualifying_play-offs#Team_selection

Will they be on form? There are no certainties here other than they will continue to be picked as long as they are fit but is that going to be the optimum strategy? I don’t know, in some ways I think we are in good shape- we are tough to beat (Denmark at the moment is a one off imo- we certainly kept Italy at bay) but going forward our potency has declined somewhat. To bring it back O/T if Evans was scoring every game it certainly asks a question I expect the FAW don’t want to be asked but to be honest I don’t think it will happen. We certainly need to be stepping up our unearthing of Welsh players though.

I don't think Ched is the answer to anything, but I share the concerns that we don't seem to have any genuine strikers/attacking players coming through. It's a long way from the 90s when we were shoehorning Rush, Hughes, Saunders and Giggs into the team but had a shortage of quality midfielders and defenders!

A natural goalscorer. Were he to come out showing some remorse for past transgressions, and a burning desire to put on the red shirt again, I think a second chance - late in his career - ought still not be out of the question.

I'd rather the welsh national team were disbanded

Even forgetting his troubles,he had a reputation as a bit of a show pony in squads, not sure if what he brings on the field outweighs the disruption and baggage he will inevitably bring. Not fair but fact.

Christ the guy will be 108 and people will still be mentioning his name on here. All we've achieved in the past ten years without him. It's so so bizarre.

Two for Ched tonight, one assisted by Woodburn. Assisted by Woodburn is more interesting. To be fair just watched the goals on Sky and you couldn't really say Woodburn made an assist, it was more all Ched's work. BBC gave an assist for Woodburn but hadn't seen the goals when I initially posted.

Two for Ched tonight, one assisted by Woodburn. Apparently it’s his goas for 35 games. That’s quite the barren streak.

Ched Evans, just checked and he's on 16 goals so far in the Championship, that's a decent tally , Woodburn also doing well, plenty of others around the Championship and lower leagues that should be considered for the newly named squad in March, time to shake up this worn out bunch in Page's good books.

Preston have two home games over the Christmas period - QPR and Huddersfield - a chance for Ched to bag a few more goals!

I can see him playing on until he's 37/38 so if he finds a way to have an Indian Summer he's got to be considered.
