Successfully converting Ben Davies into a Centre Half would be one of the most important changes for our team. Agreed.

I thought he was very average against Wigan. First half Mcmanaman got the better of him many times. Having said that, every Swansea player was dreadful first half, although having said that, Wigan were crap too. Just re-read my post. Should have been clearer. Collymore was talking in the context of the whole season rather than the Wigan game In fairness he did a damn site better than Clichy and managed to get to grips with him in the second half unlike Clichy

If Wales weren't so weak at centre back, then I definately would not want to play him there as he seems the real deal.
Why? He has so much to offer. He is no slouch, is physical, gets forward well and is aggressive in driving forward, has good technique (seldom mislays passes) and gets goals. For someone so young, still just 19, his composure and positioning is very good.
Taylor is very good - he is quick and his technique is very good, but I always feel that with these attributes he should be getting a couple of goals and driving forward/setting up chances on a more regular basis than he has.

They all sound like reasons for him to play at centre back - he could be like Alex or De Boer (I'm sure there are many more examples, but it's Sunday morning...)

One thing that strikes me as stand out is the very high stamina levels Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies (by Rangel) are attributed with. Its therefore quite bizarre how weakly we tend to finish games!

You may find this assessment interesting from www.mypassion4footballmanager.com/2013/04/ben-davies-swansea-citys-impressing-wonderkid.htmlIt describes him as a natural full back and highlights his aerial ability as a weakness ....... However, this is a bit out of date and I would say his passing has definitely been improving Player Attributes - strength In Football Manager 2013 Ben Davies is regarded as a natural full back, mostly because of his great speed and crossing. While his main strength might be in his defensive skills, fairly good marking, tackling and concentration, he is also a player who gives everything for the team with excellent bravery and determination, good work rate, team work. Ben Davies could be described as a speedy full back who rarely prone under pressure. Player Attributes - weaknesses Ben Davies' main weaknesses is his aerial ability; heading and jumping. Ben Davies is not the most technically gifted player with average attributes in technique, flair, passing, first touch and dribbling. Despite his young age, he has some important preferred moves in regard to his player position; Gets forward whenever possible, Runs with ball down left and dives into tackles might show you some of his playing style. You can read more about the different preferred moves in this guide to individual training. To improve Ben Davies as a full back you should focus to improve his positioning, decisions and off the ball even further. Later I would focus to improve his heading and jumping to make him even better at defensive parts of play, mostly because of his good marking and tackling. To become a counter attacking threat it might be favorable to improve his passing, anticipation and off the ball. Last but not least, to make him a world class player, you need to carefully develop him. There are still 3 years to improve him into the new Ashley Cole, David Alaba or Neil Taylor. With the help of excellent coaches in Football Manager 2013 and good tutors he can reach his potential. Hope you enjoyed this article on Ben Davies written by Woods

I wish so many of our player were playing abroad. I hope this is true it would be amazing but sadly i feel it's bollacks.
It's not our big stars or players with the potential to be big stars i'd like to see abroad I think it would be great if instead of crystal palace joe ledley played for parma or david vaughan instead of going on loan to notthingam fforest just went and played for a team in the portugese league or played for a russian team etc

I can see Ben Davies leaving the Swans in the summer
I believe he is at least as good as Shaw at Southampton and if Ben was English he would probably be talked about in the same price bracket.
Could prove a bargain for a top premier league team and I would not be surprised to see him go to Man Utd, I hope not but seems a decent fit

This story has likely come from Athletico sending a scout to check out Davies, just as they've probably done for dozens of fullbacks around Europe. So while probably a non-starter, Swans should definitely sell Davies if a good offer comes in. Despite the calamitous backpass, Taylor showed reminded Swans and Wales that there is strength in depth at LB.

I hope so, excellent player and there is no way in hell he could turn that offer down.
Really hope Monk plays Davies so he gets a good move but looks unlikely.

On Football Focus reporter stating that if the big clubs do not go for Luke Shaw they should go for Ben Davies.
Impressive praise as they were discussing England players.

I have said from his first season that Ben Davies will play champions league football in his career, such and excellent player and he's still learning too. I have a lot of respect for him because he didn't go on loan to a lower league team, he didn't play in a few games here in there or come off the bench, he was thrown straight in at the deep end of Premier League football and excelled.
Two more seasons at the Jacks and then look whose interested.

He looks like a great young player, we need to bed in our back 4 ready for the euros and he is definately our first choice LB all day long. Going slightly off subject, just watched the cardiff game and Declan John looks more comfortable going forward than defending, maybe a winger for the future?

I agree
Would like to see Davies and John combine down the left hand side, both can defend, both can get forward and cross, both are left footed and both have bundles of energy.
Should be tried in one of the summer friendlies, however I suspect this will be more likely either when we are already out or the next qualifiers.

It would, but I will believe it when I see it. The smart money is on him starting next season with Swansea.

Without a doubt. However I could easily see either Taylor or Davies leave. If Davies does go it'll be because a premier league club bids 10m+ though. Atletico won't offer that kind of money so they're least likely to sign him.

I would imagine they would want to keep hold of him come what may and sell Taylor in order to be able to 'afford' to keep Davies.

If they could force it up to something like 15 million (and isn't Luke shaw being talked about at 20m+?) wouldn't it be better to sell him and bring in new players?

The way Pochettino (sp?) set up Southampton to play with high-pressing, mobile full backs could be the making of Davies. Spurs under the likes of Sherwood, Boas, 'Arry doesn't appeal to me as a destination for him; under Pochettino (or Jol before him), sounds ok.

The down side of a Spurs move, even though I agree with Llannerch, is that it may end any hopes of a club manager making a good centre half out of him? Did not see much sign from the Swans anyway so maybe not such a big deal?

If the Atletico interest was genuine there could be developments once they have sold Moreno to liverpool. Agree that a move to spurs would be decent, if unspectacular. Also, Pochettino will almost certainly be out of a job by next May
