Scored one and should of had a penalty. Take that from a centre forward any game

Another excellent headed goal from Vokes and should have had another but went straight at the keeper. Apart from that a dire performance from Burnley.

Other than spending a little too much time offside in the first half last night, I thought he did a thoroughly decent job.

Vokes had a thankless task for sure. He did win a few balls, as well as mis-controlling a fair few. Because of the Spanish high press a lot of balls were being pumped up to him from the flanks and centre backs. Given how deep we were most of the time it's unsurprising that Vokes had few options to flick or lay the ball onto. I'd like to see a pacier attacking line-up (Lawrence would be my pick) against the Irish, but Vokes is always an option off the bench.

As I mentioned on another thread, his lack of work off the ball is criminal. We had Ramsey doing his job chasing down and harrying defenders in the last 30 mins. One of our best players running himself ragged, risking fitness for an important upcoming match because a player cannot do his role properly.
I know I'm being a bit harsh because he wasn't and isn't really well supported by our gameplan, but I just don't see how he suits our style of playing, and his work rate is below par.

I can't agree with this. He put himself about pretty well from start to finish. He's just slow - it's what you get with him. The fact that he played the 90 minutes suggests to me that he's not slated to start against ROI, but if he does he should be able to make a much more meaningful contribution than last night, if we can get players around him for lay-offs and flick-ons.

We need to utilise him like Burnley do. As a plan B occasionally if plan A isn’t working.

Would personally start him.
Think he has scored 3 in 3 games and his confidence must be sky high.
Yes he has limitations but he will be useful in both boxes.

If we go 4-2-3-1 then he's the natural choice. If Giggs plays a 4-3-3 then a more mobile forward (probably Lawrence) may be more suitable. Either way I'm sure he'll get significant game time on Tuesday.

Whether Vokes plays or not on Tuesday obviously depends on which system Giggs decides to use but as Alarch says the fact that he played 90 minutes last night would suggest that he will start on the bench. He may not be the most mobile or skilful but given the right service knows where the goal is as his current run of 3 in 3 shows.

Vokes is what he is, he did very well on Thursday, couldn't fault his display.
Dunno what Giggs was thinking. Vokes, Ramsey, Allen all have no pace so trying to play with those and Ampadu in a holding role ffs we were never gonna get anywhere.

I bet you he’ll make the next squad by the skin of his teeth. There will be a conversation and it’ll go something like ‘well we might need to bring him on late on’.
Giggs left him out of two important games and he flopped against Albania. Days are numbered

As I mentioned in another thread, it's a minor miracle that he's a Premier League striker.
Unfortunately we have a serious lack of strikers, so he'll be in and around the team for the foreseeable future.
We have limited options in that role, and the best being Bale - who should be starting up front every game now when fit. We have enough talent out wide now.

The miss at the start of second half was pure comedy. Harder to do what he did than put it in the back of the net. The Belgium game seems like a life time away now

Vokes is the only striker we have playing a decent standard of football
Should of scored 2 or 3 against Albania but at least he's getting on the end of stuff. Roberts is out of his depth and in not convinced he will ever be a top level footballer.

At this point in time and basing my opinion on current form, I'd risk neither as a starting option in a competitive qualifier.

Agreed I would play Bale
However Giggs was wrong to play Roberts ahead of Vokes.

I've got hope for Roberts. He should have started against Albania, not Denmark ffs.
Concerning that Giggs can't get the players right for the occasion.

Would probably be a good move for Sam.He's not getting much game time at the moment because Dyche prefers Barnes and Wood upfront and both have played well in the last 4 league matches where Burnley have picked up 10 points out of 12.Vokes is a proven goalscorer at Championship level and would probably do a good job for Stoke. There have been rumours that Sam plus a few million pounds could be heading to the Potteries with Joe Allen going the other way.

Sam has signed for Stoke on a permanent deal. Good luck to him, will probably play more regularly now than at Burnley.
