I wonder if the FAW have already sorted a new manager out, and that's why a decision on Page has taken a few weeks. Whilst I have been a long-time critic of Page’s international management ability, the timing of his sacking is bizarre. If the result of 2 largely meaningless friendlies was the catalyst, it speaks volumes about the FAW’s lack of professionalism. Those games really didn’t matter in the bigger scheme of things. Key players weren’t available and those that were, no doubt equally as deflated as the fans. The show was over for us when we didn’t qualify for the Euros. What was their thinking when we failed to qualify ? Steady as she goes lads, red wine for me please waiter, let’s wait and see if there’s any flak heading our way, before we rush into any hasty decisions. So if Page had gone all out to beat Gibraltar and maybe draw with Slovakia, he could still be our manager ? Oops the new Red Wall memberships aren’t selling too well ?
It’s as important that we challenge the decision making blazers, rather than allow them to make Page their scapegoat. I did notice this decision has coincided with the new Red Wall membership promotion.

Those last two games were the end (at least for us) of this international cycle. If the change didn't happen now, then you have the option of doing it after the Nations League just before a new qualification round starts, mid competition or not at all.

He was steady, safe, almost like the coaching staff had an AI machine telling them which decisions to make and what to say in interviews etc. Too robotic and not enough creativity or personality to take the team forward

Reading the BBC article, it was the FAW president who came out straight after the Poland game to say Page would be staying for the next campaign, and according to the BBC article that came as a surprise to those within the FAW and wasn't an agreed position. I suspect the main reason the call was finally made was because of the breakdown with the fans, and it's very difficult to come back from that. So in that sense, the timing isn't surprising at all.

Obviously the financial implications of keeping / sacking Page will have been an important consideration. Why shouldn't it be?

Wales is not like a Rep Of Ireland where 30000 or 40000 will show up no matter how bad things are. We would quickly go down to 8000-12000 or even 4000. We’re a fickle bunch here. FAW weighed up the boos in Gibraltar and Slovakia, weighed up performances and have pulled the trigger! Have the FAW began feeling that the crowds were about to start dropping? The red wall memberships not selling as much?

Think we could do with weeding out a few of our ‘fan’ base to be honest it’s a bit toxic now and if you think it will be less toxic with a new manager unless we’re winning every game you’re in for a shock

I’ve never seen that from a welsh manager. Criticise him for other things but never fake prob too open

Lovely tribute from Ramsey:
Wales captain Aaron Ramsey wrote:
“It has been a journey we can all be proud of from the Euros to taking Wales to a World Cup for the first time since 1958.
“I personally just want to thank you for all you have done for me.
“You have been a privilege to work with, a gentleman and true family man. Myself and the team will forever be grateful for your guidance. These past few years are years we will treasure.”

Have the FAW began feeling that the crowds were about to start dropping? The red wall memberships not selling as much? Think we could do with weeding out a few of our ‘fan’ base to be honest it’s a bit toxic now and if you think it will be less toxic with a new manager unless we’re winning every game you’re in for a shock Most of the toxicity is online though, not in the ground, and we’ll never change that because that’s how social media works. It thrives on division and controversy. But In the main, once in the stadium the crowds are supportive and the atmosphere is great. There’ll be some who won’t need to wait until results go badly to start criticising on Twitter. If they don’t like who replaces Page they’ll start by criticising who get left out of the first squad announcement and from there we’ll have 4 years of every decision getting scrutinised and every interview and quote taken out of context. It’s best just to ignore the ones who just deliberately want to have a rant and just concentrate on the games themselves, that’s when we really find out what the fans think (as demonstrated by the fact that the fans in the ground turning on Page, rather than the four years of social media posts, was the catalyst for him being sacked)

Trying to show a bit of perspective, I am concerned about the emotional attachment to one of our fellow Welshman here, we love all the 'togetherness' within all of us but maybe this is a symptom that is catching us out, maybe we are overstating the bond that exists between us.
Nobody can doubt Rob Page in his passion for his country but the simple truth is we need to be more professional, I think he was too close to the players and was regarded as 'one of the boys', and that works for so long but players become comfortable in that environment and performances drop, I'm not saying that is what has happened here, but there has to be a reason for the inconsistency we have shown under Page.
The interesting aspect to this is how the players respond to losing one of their 'mates' and then to someone who is not in the 'clique'.

There hasn’t been an outpouring of support for Page from the players since he’s been sacked though. Other than Ramsey and maybe one or two others it’s been a fairly muted response. Strange considering the accusations that Page had favourites’, ‘only picked his mates’ and it was a ‘closed shop’.

Bit of perspective would be he wasn’t all bad, look at how the players have come out for him especially Ramsey. Say what you want but those are the guys in the know. What a lovely post from Ramsey

Ash Williams also spoke with about knowing the players. It’s only been 24hrs

Page holding back the tears before the Croatia game will live forever in the memory, he loved his country as much as any of us and did his best.

He won as many games as he lost. Very few Cymru managers can match that. When you factor in two tournaments, playoffs, and playing in the top tier of the Nations League his record is pretty decent.
